Dawn of Discovery AKA Anno for Wii

This game is supposed to be coming out soon for Wii. Like, today/tomorrow?

It's getting some pretty decent reviews but has really flown under my radar. It's strange, there really haven't been many sim games on Wii despite the pointer controls that lend themselves to the genre. And this one sounds pretty intriguing to me. Here's the IGN UK review.
Sensibly, they've taken the core conceits of the daddy Anno franchise - city building, resource management, exploration and high seas swash buckling - and designed Create a New World from the ground up, streamlining game flow while still maintaining the series' essence and depth. Whether in the game's excellent Story Mode or more free-form Continuous Play mode, progress always follows the same path: scout out an island, establish a settlement then gradually expand your economy, population and city infrastructure. You do this by scrutinizing your subjects needs and producing the necessary resources - food, clothing, building materials, sanitisation, schools and so on - to reach the next cultural milestone, unlock new resources and start the cycle over.

So has anyone here played an Anno game? Anyone have any impressions on it, or plan on getting it?

I've played Anno 1701 AD and loved it. It should also be said that Dawn of Discovery is not just a Wii game. It's available on the PC, as well, even through Steam. The Wii one looks very different, though, more streamlined to be a console friendly game. The PC one looks quite different. The core concepts are no doubt the same, and if you like the city/resource sims, this would be a very good game for you.

I don't know if it's the same here, but in 1701 AD you could never have every resource on your starting island. To gain access to everything, you had to trade, build new colonies, or conquer others through military might. So you don't just plop down a colony and manage it like Sim City.

If you want this thread to be about the Wii version, you might want to specify as much in the title. The PC one came out today, which is a totally different game (much more complex).

I wasn't expecting to buy this but I was just at Gamestop and saw it for $30 new. That's impulse buy territory for me. If other people are interested I can post impressions when I get to play it.

I'm really interested in this, but my backlog is growing and I told myself that I wouldn't buy any new games until I finished my backlog, plus I have Little King's Story and Wii Sports Resort next month to buy, and I really shouldn't spend more money on games...

    $30? Sold. I thought it was $50.

I have to admit I'm finding the art style on this one pretty off-putting, especially the character portraits.
Does the gameplay make up for it?
