There's a lot of raw creative energy out there in the world we live in. I decided to create this thread to see what you've encountered, be it people, animals, events or whatever that you consider to be of a high caliber. Enough to pause for a moment and stare with your jaw open.
Here's something I encountered last night watching Discovery. There's this company out there that has been clever enough to be able to recycle e-waste. They've refined it to the point where they can make fuel that runs their machinery and harvest metals to the point where it's more effective then any conventional method of doing so.
Smartphones. People still bitch sometimes about "Where's my flying car, where's my jetpack"
You have a device smaller than a pack of cards that lets you talk to people on the other side of the earth, that lets you research anything you want, whenever you want, and it's cheap enough (relatively) that anyone who wants one can get one.

Fast cars and loose women.

but if star wars was just filled with people using smartphones, it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun

I was going to say my iPhone but figured people would consider my imagination limited.
But seriously though, smart phones. Blow my fucking mind.
(It's the very last sentence in that article, but still, woo!)
That is cool. What's going to happen to all the nuclear plants though?
And I guess I should read the article to see if they mention them.

My friends think I’m weird but I see the skyline of a heavily developed city and I just think of how much time and effort and co-ordination it took to build something like that over the years
Skylines are pretty fucking incredible. Of all the things that mankind has done over the years, the feats of engineering are probably the most impressive in my opinion. Have you ever sat back and thought about just what goes into making a skyscraper? Not just raw material or manpower, but literally how they're designed?
Think if you got transported back 100-150 years and walked up to someone, held up your phone and said 'I can talk to a person on the other side of the earth with this', they would not know what you meant, not believe you, or think you were a witch.
This entire topic is going to be people trying to outdo each other at being impressed by tedious shit.
