"Well, I suppose we have gotten out of some good scraps, and plants do tend to burn well..." Quinnten quickly covered his mouth as he felt a fiery belch delve up from within him like some sympathetic response to the notion. Fortunately, he only got a bad taste of sulfur and ash instead. Quinnten quickly cleared his throat before continuing.
"If we are going to attack the plant, how should we start this?" As he asked the question, Quinnten's gaze locked on and never shifted from Inutchuk as if he expected the big guy to go rushing off at any moment or at least come some very simple and practical plan that might involve smashing.

Gramps watches the giant fighter's attack and tsks. "Gotta aim a bit lower, boy- go fer the roots!"
With that he charges in and chops through the tendril at its base cleanly.
Seeing that the closest vine had been dispatched by his companions, Quinnten edged closer to the ridge to see if were any problems that could come from that direction. He was greeted with his prudence with a nearby vine that could pose a bit of a problem. Quinnten was about to gather up some power for a frosty blast of cold draconic power when his footing became a bit perilous and he almost slipped in. However, those giant pair of ethereal wings burst from his shoulder and pushed him backwards, all the while buffeting the vine with a thunderous blast of wind. Or it would have if Quinnten had aimed bettter as the blast went wide. At the very least he found himself in a relatively safer position.

Bartholomew strides quickly to the edge of the ditch and slides down to the bottom, Bongo following close behind. After regaining his footing, he draws and looses an arrow, but it ends up buried in the dirt instead of his target.
He shouts up to Quinnten, "They're harder to hit then they look, eh?"
Nim saw a perfect opportunity to rid the land of a group of the vines all at once, and plunged forward after Bartholomew. He rolled up his sleeves, set his staff against the soft dirt, and let the familiar incantations roll from his tongue. The sparkling, beguiling lights washed over the vines, and... absolutely nothing happened.
"W...what? Oh, of course!" Nim shakes his head. "Plants, not animals! Entirely different mental structure, forgot to account for it. Now how did that spell go...?"

As Vicks watches on from behind, the rest of the gang moves in for the attack. Up top Gramps moves alongside the goliath, and cuts down the vine that Inutchuk failed to bludgeon to death. Down below Nim and Bart do their thing but neither of their attacks proving useful against the wriggling vines. Perhaps Quinnten's puff of wind was to blame for Bart's arrow going astray?
The vines for their part seem to be oblivious to the threat that the party holds to them. They are after all, just vines. However with an almost sentient sense of cooperation they set themselves upon Nim. The first vine grips the gnome by the leg and drags him along the ground, this very same action duplicated by another vine. However that spell went, Nim didn't have much time to think about it!

Inutchuk breaks away from Gramps and rushes downhill to the come to the aid of Nim. His attack ruins the tiny vine. While he does this, the central mass of the Venus begins to quiver and bulge, and the stream briefly seems to slow down. Seconds later a massive ball of liquid hurtles into the air. Arcing above and over the the bridge, it explodes right in the middle of the goliath and gnome with surprising force. The blast pushes the gnome closer to the central mass and the goliath further back. The poor professor just wasn't prepared for this kind of abuse.
Up top another vine slinks under ground and then emerges closer to Gramps. It wraps itself around one of his arms and pulls him close. While this occurs, another vine slinks beneath the ground. As this happens, the vines of the central mass lash out at Nim, but he seems to be safely out of its reach, if only by a few inches.
(Sadly, I forgot to declare a readied action for the vine that burrowed, and it wouldn't be fair to trigger it. )

Gramps takes stock of the situation before again hacking through another vine. "Stay back from that maw, smart guy! We're comin' to help!" he said, jumping down beside the fighter.
"Yeah...harder to hit that's it," Quinnten responded pretty much to himself at this point, seeing as he was still far away from anyone else.
Not being one to learn something quickly, the sorcerer decided to try the same thing as before. He was betting that his chances wouldn't be so bad this time around. He approached the edge of the terrain, and spied the same vine from before. This time he made sure that his footing was sound before trying to gather a blast of power. As he had just unknowingly used the ethereal wings before, it was the freshest ability in his mind and he quickly used it to attack his enemy. Great dragon wings appeared from Quinnten's back and slammed together creating a loud cacophony of thunderous power that did hit the vine this time around.

With just one vine still holding him, Nim made the necessary changes to the incantation to affect the 'mind' of a plant. Or at least, he thought it was the right incantation. He was a little disappointed he didn't have his old robe, it would have been perfect in a situation like this.

Several more of the vines get cut down as the group moves to come to the aid of Nim. Bart's arrow finds its mark in the Venus, the shards of broken arrow causing the mass of vines to twitch and spasm more than before. Gramps shook his head, causing the metal plates to squeak slightly.
"We gotta get that fella to sit behind everyone else next time..." said Gramps, saddened by their lack of tactics so far.
With that, he ran forward, deftly slicing yet another vine before yelling at the prone professor: "This ain't no time to be sleepin'! Git up and help us out, Smart Guy!"
Seeing nothing around him on the high ground, ally or enemy, Quinnten hesitated before he took an action. There was no telling what kind of danger he could potentially be in and he was further away then he'd like for help to get to him. However on the other side of the coin, he had the nice high ground which was important or at least he had heard that somewhere. It wasn't until he saw that the Professor was knocked down that he actually took action.
Quinnten quickly slid down the slope and pointed his staff towards the plant monster. He took a moment to gather his power and quickly unleashed it. It exploded into a great burst of fiery destruction with a bright light that rivaled the sun...about five away from its target, which didn't actually harm the creature. Quinnten couldn't help but feel that he had the wrong choice in his latest decision.

However, knowing full well the dangers of playing with fire, especially magical fire, Quinnten quickly managed to reign in his rage and shift into something more productive.
He started but moving to another position. Quinnten quickly ran across to the other side of the dry riverbed; there was no one over so it gave him a clear shot at the target. Next he gathered that rage from before and turned into fuel for another one of his icy blasts which he sent towards the plant monster without delay. The blast struck the plant and may have managed to freeze a few leaves and other parts but the creature-plant-thing was still standing.

Encouraged that the other members of his group actually seem to be damaging the thing, Nim adjusts his glasses and takes a closer look. Yes, this must be the controlling intelligence behind this phenomenon, and he had always wondered exactly how plant-like the shadows he conjured were. It seemed like just the time to find out.
"Keep an eye on these shadows, they can be difficult to control!" Nim thought the warning would be simple enough to comprehend in the middle of combat, then waved his staff and said twelve syllables. He wasn't summoning these tentacles, not really. It was more the idea of them, the ideal, perhaps.

Nim is pretty pleased with himself. The shadows were working well, things seemed to be coming together, and he wasn't bleeding quite so badly! "Now how did that one go...? Well, if I can't conjure the nightmares of a giant plant, maybe the nightmares of fungus will do, after all, they are relatively similar..." his musings flowed straight into his casting, which may have been a mistake. The air temporarily distorts around the Venus, as if some illusion were attempting to manifest itself, but nobody is able to make heads or tails of it.
Finding itself about to be surrounded and flanked the Venus begins to vibrate and split apart. The sound of multiple whip cracks follows it lashing out at everyone within reach. Somehow the creature manages to miss Gramps, Bart and even Inutchuk. Unfortunately, Bongo isn't so lucky. The poor animal lets out a yelp as the tendril slams into its fur, and howls in agony as another tendril shoots out of the ground and latches itself to his body.

Inutchuk
Inutchuk took a mighty swing at the plant, severing a few of the thing's roots and causing it to sway dangerously.
Standard Action:Knee Breaker vs AC: 1d20+11302d10+1028 HIT for 28 damage!
Effect: VENS IS IMMOBILIZED (save ends), and VENS is Marked by Inutchuk
Gramps
Gramps moved forward as well over the difficult terrain, gingerly picking his way through so he didn't fall and break a hip. As he got within sword range of the creature, he yelled out "Okay gang- I'm gonna get its attention- let's finish this thing NOW!" and swung a mightily at the beast over and over, hacking into its skin with his sword and doing some serious damage.
Move: shift to 7,5
Standard: Lead the Attack vs VENS: 1d20+16283d8+925 HIT for 25 damage
Effect: Until the end of the encounter, you and each ally within 5 squares of you gain a power bonus to attack rolls against the target equal to 1 + your Intelligence modifier(+4 total)
Action Point!: Action Point: Martial Doom vs VENS: 1d20+20312d8+921 HIT for 21 Damage
Effects: The target grants combat advantage to your allies until the end of your next turn.
PLUS: Any ally that hits the target with an attack gained from an action point before the end of your next turn deals 5 extra damage to the target.
Oh, and Gramps will ready his Powerful warning ability- if Inutchuk gets hit by less than 2, use Powerful Warning, which gives him +2 to all defences against the attack and grants a free MBA.
"Good idea," Quinnten yelled a response back to Gramp; all the while thinking that it was better that he was getting the plant's attention instead of himself. Of course that didn't mean that Quinnten wasn't prepared to pull some of his own weight around. He surmised that his aim might improve if he were to get a little closer which was a little more dangerous but hopefully things would go according to the impromptu plan that no one really formulated.
Quinnten latched out with both arms sending two bursts of cold draconic fury at the plant. The first missed the smallest of margins but the second struck true. The blast quickly frosted over parts of the vegetative villain.
Move Action: Move to 7, 10
Standard Action: Dragonfrost vs VENS [Fort 23]
Arcane Reserves: +2 damage
Combat Advantage: +2 to attack Dragonfrost vs VENS: 1d20+10+2171d8+12+216 Miss
I only noticed after the roll that I could have moved within 5 sqaures of Gramps to get the attack bonus, which wouldn't have helped in this case. However I'm remembering it for the next roll
Action Point
Standard Action: Dragonfrost vs VENS [Fort 23]
Arcane Reserves: +2 to damage
Lead the Attack: +4 to attack
Combat Advantage: +2 to attack
Action Surge: +3 to attack
Veteran's Armor: +1 to all attacks and defenses until end of next turn
Martial Doom: +5 damage Dragonfrost vs VENS: 1d20+10+10291d8+12+722
Hit
VENS takes 22 cold damage (Arcane Spellfury and Rising Spellfury are applied for next turn)
Ready Sudden Scales in case of ranged hit (+6 to all defenses)
Ready Dragonflame Mantle in case of any melee hit (+1 to all defenses and fire damage to melee attacker)

"If we are going to attack the plant, how should we start this?" As he asked the question, Quinnten's gaze locked on and never shifted from Inutchuk as if he expected the big guy to go rushing off at any moment or at least come some very simple and practical plan that might involve smashing.

"If you don't mind I'll be waiting back here," Vicks says as the group moves forward to engage the plant. As if anticipating its next meals, several more vines sprout from the ground, but the creature doesn't engage further... yet.

(Sadly, I forgot to declare a readied action for the vine that burrowed, and it wouldn't be fair to trigger it. )

An emerald eye flared to life above Nim's head as he began to chant. The thing glared at the plant as the illusory waves washed over it, attempted to push it back and destroy it. Nim opened his own eyes victoriously, expecting the dead vines to fall off of him. He was quite disappointed when the thing was still very much alive and un-pushed back against the wall.
Ah well, sometimes all it took was an old classic. "Help!"

Several more of the vines get cut down as the group moves to come to the aid of Nim. Bart's arrow finds its mark in the Venus, the shards of broken arrow causing the mass of vines to twitch and spasm more than before. As distracted as the Venus seemed to be, its viny extensions continued on performing their task of bringing morsels closer, the first of them dragging Nim along the stream bed, and another vine sprouting to pull it even closer to the central mass. If the poor gnome wasn't in a bad way before, he certainly was now.
(Just a reminder, Bart... you haven't been using your Hunter's Quarry.)

Inutchuk advances on the Venus, taking out another one of its wayward vines. As his footsteps draw nearer the Venus reacts, the single twisted mass momentarily separating itself as it lashes out in all directions. The sound of the vines cutting through the air is like thunder, and easily drowns out any screams of pain Nim is whipped into unconsciousness. Once it finishes whipping the area, the vines twist back into shape, waiting for more prey to come nearer.

Quinnten couldn't help but feel that he had the wrong choice in his latest decision.

The group continues to rally to recover Nim with Gramps and Inutchuk paving the way for the foolhardy gnome to fall back. Lending supporting fire from behind, Bart's keen senses somehow conclude that one of the vines lie waiting for another to rush toward the central mass. Though he couldn't attack it, he could certainly call it to the other's attention.

if he can do so then he will use his move and standard to safely charge VENS like this Bull Charge vs Fortitude: 1d20+11 23 2d10+6 17 which i guess is a 24 after the +1 to hit on charging
so if he gets in range of VENS then blam it takes damage is pushed one square back and inutchuk follows and Bull Charge Secondary Attack vs Fortitude: 1d20+11 20 which misses so no prone
otherwise not so blam
if he couldn't charge to VENS then i suppose try to smack the hiding vine with that same dice roll but a basic melee instead of bull charge
you know what i mean

Inutchuk realizes that the vine seemed to be waiting eagerly for his next move, and happily obliges it by stepping forward toward it. The vine lashes out at the Goliath's armored chest, the blow doing nothing more than getting water on his armor as he then proceeds to smash the stalk into mush.
As he does the the central mass of the venus begins to move. The earth makes a sucking noise as the writing mass of flora advances on the goliath. Two of the flailing vines lash out at the goliath's head, but he deflects the blows with ease.

Shaded tokens under the bridge are... under the bridge. Which should have been made transparent but eh.
The shaded bars along the x and y axis mark the 10th row/column. This is to aid posting coords.
The channel is 2 squares (10 feet) deep. It requires a climb check to get out of.

The Venus shudders from the assault, and unbeknownst to the group the stream temporarily recedes as it draws water into its tendrils. The mass shudders as it spews out another globule of poisoned liquid over the bridge and into the ground directly behind Bart, Quinnten and Bongo. The liquid explosion doesn't seem to phase Bart at all, however his poor dog gets thrown ahead of him. It hurts Quinnten too, but Bongo! Poor Bongo!

GAE11R06A
As Inutchuk leads the advance toward the Twisted Venus he finds it somewhat difficult to get a good footing between the water and the tendrils. Despite his lack of proper footing, the first of his blows still rings true. Unfortunately he isn't able to land his follow-up blow. As he recovers his balance from the attack it begins to sleet around him, the frosty visage of Quinnten's attack causing the creature to recoil. With the creature reeling, Bart and Nim hope to press the advance. However they aren't able to find much success in doing so.

Inutchuk took a mighty swing at the plant, severing a few of the thing's roots and causing it to sway dangerously.

Quinnten latched out with both arms sending two bursts of cold draconic fury at the plant. The first missed the smallest of margins but the second struck true. The blast quickly frosted over parts of the vegetative villain.
