Paraplegic suicidal gunman shot dead in Burnside
NEW Zealand police have shot dead a wheelchair-bound suicidal gunman after he fired on police, hitting an officer in the head.
The 40-year-old paraplegic man fired more than 100 rounds from a shotgun and .308 "indiscriminately" down Wadhurst Place, Burnside, about 9pm last night police said.
North Canterbury District Commander, Inspector David Lawry, said the man suffered from a head injury and was understood to have been drinking.
He said the man had contacted his family earlier in the day saying he was suicidal.
When contacted by a negotiating team, the man threatened police, Mr Lawry said.
Up to 40 residents were evacuated to the nearby Burnside High School. One neighbour hit by shotgun fire was taken to Christchurch hospital.
As the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) laid a cordon a squad member was hit in the head with a shotgun pellet, NZPA reported.
He was taken
Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries,
St John Ambulance spokesman Ian Henderson said.
Police and paramedics confirmed the gunman was killed shortly after 10pm.
The gunman's immediate next of kin have been contacted but his name would not be released yet.
He said police "express their deepest sympathy to the family".

It's hard to hit a target when you're riding a kangaroo

there's a difference?
There is a guy here at work who seems to have a lot of experience in dealing with sheep.
Always telling us how it works best when you wear big gum boots and put the sheep's back legs into each boot whilst wearing velcro gloves for maximum grip and I'm just like please dude I'm trying to eat my sandwhich why you gotta do a thing?
edit: He is from New Zealand also
well you see you get the wellington boots and put the backlegs in there and get them up to a cliff and when you try and push them over they push back
I really hoped he was joking, but uh, I just got the feeling he'd had some experience.
if you eat the skin you are weird

I do not like eating hair.
Girls who eat hair are gross.
Girls in general are gross.
I am eating a Kiwi Fruit with the skin as we speak.
Though I'm getting a bit sick of the skin, might just resort to using a spoon for the rest.

see this is hilarious to me
i picture a guy sitting limply in his wheelchair in the middle of the road at night, firing randomly down the street at nothing in particular, shouting slurred half-words at the moon as his head rocks around weakly
i love it!
she was there for like 20 minutes sobbing her eyes out as all her friends sorta pottered around her
I nearly burst a blood vessel from holding in my laughter
I'm sure there's a more acceptable name for them
girl had her arm stuck right in the prize chute
So she put her arm where it wasn't supposed to go, and it got stuck?
I'd be laughing pretty hard.
I don't know what she was expecting, there's literally a foot and a half of chute before you can even come close to a prize
her forearm wasn't even halfway to the prizes
