This is terrible. Just imagine how the original Kerrigan voice actor from Starcraft must feel. Here I am, getting to reprise the role of a really great villain in an expensive sequel, and instead my job gets taken away and given to some bigshot celebrity who was on a terrible scifi show. Some celebrity who had already voiced a character on another big RTS franchise and probably doesn't even need the money for this gig.

I thought the running rumor was that the original VA was in a contract dispute or something?
She was in quite a few of Blizzard's games though, so I am not sure what happened. I just know that her returning or not was a big deal.

uh.. the voice actress for kerrigan did a great job (I think, I only ever played the german version of SC, which of course had an awesome german voice actress), but tricia helfer is a pretty damn great, in no way what you'd expect from someone going the model->actress route. And bsg was far from terrible!

I don't know what to think about the new VA. I think I sort of turned my nose up for good when I saw her revamped design. In the original she had personality - the original human was discernible and the mutations made her look mysterious and somewhat melancholic. Now she's just this unbelievably generic villainous monster chick - ditto on her voice.
Or, hey, what about Raynor. A pretty average-looking fellow with a poise, voice, facial structure and general impression that made him much more sympathetic and unfamiliar to basically than other male protagonist. Now he, too, has been given some kind of Hollywood makeover. He looks like that forgettable fellow from Condemned with a dash of Sam Fisher. Je n'aime pas. I think Zeratul has changed for the worse as well.
It's as if I and the people at Blizzard appreciated different things. It's unavoidable but a bit saddening.

Just based on what they said in the panel (including the flashback aspect), I highly doubt this is the case. Plus, the voice director is from Avatar and Batman: TAS, so I doubt she's gonna let them be flat. Even more than that, keep in mind there are going to be 3 of these things, and only the first has been recorded.
He's the guy screaming at the panda right? Person who kills the panda always loses, it jinxs your game.
Also its kinda funny, by which I mean hilarious, whenever something amazing happens like a rush or massive battle he just starts screaming and completely loses all shoutcasting ability.
If you can do half the stuff they are claiming is possible with the SC2 map editor it'll be worth buying just for the mods
Warcraft 3 was worth buying just for the mods. What are they claiming?
Ive got this info 3rd hand, so im not sure how accurate it is, but it seems they showed a shump level and an fps footage attributed to the level editor.

that its possible to make shooters with it.
Joystiq has a screen shot of a bare bones 3rd person shooter based off of what we saw of SC: Ghost that was made by one of the guys working on the editor
Is there anywhere I can get a good recap of the Starcraft stuff at Blizzcon in English? MMO-Champion has a shitload of info for WoW, but I can't seem to find anywhere with a concise summary for Starcraft.
I still want to know how extensive the list of built-in models is going to be. The Uberlisk is a good sign, but that's still just zerg units stuck together, right?
At BlizzCon 2009, Blizzard's executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo revealed plans to allow modders to sell premium StarCraft 2 maps via the Battle.Net service.
Blizzard wants to foster the best mod community in existence, and to that ends they've unveiled plans to single out premium custom-created maps for sales on a StarCraft 2 marketplace. Maps will be split into two categories - normal and premium - with the former free and the latter for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to the map's creators. Blizzard hopes this will lead to more choice for StarCraft 2 players, and more innovative and creative custom maps fueled by the potential financial rewards.
That right there is why I'm buying SC2 day one even though I don't much like RTSes and I'll be lucky to finish the campaign. Low-grade third person action aside, people are going to make some incredibly awesome custom maps. Internet party game of the century. Only problem with a DotA sequel is that I doubt there will be any kind of matchmaking for mods like HoN and LoL have, which is a pretty big deal for a game like that.
Man, I wonder if it will be possible for them to do a third-person shooter/RTS hybrid, where four or five players play a squad of marines and another player controls all the zerg RTS-style.

Yes. At least, I see no reason whatsoever why it wouldn't work.

I'll say that would definitely be possible from what we've seen so far.
You would just apply the camera/triggers for the 3rd person stuff to certain players.

Is there single player campaign co-op? Because that would be perfect.

The devs just owned some dudes in a 2v2 to kick it off, I think.
PLease shut the fuck up, that retarded overexcitement doesn't make things more fun.

There was a basic 3rd person shooter and a shmup as people said.
Also the UBERLISK! Which was an ultralisk with spine crawlers (like sunken colony) attached to it's back that flung out and destroyed shit.

No matter how you look, thats pretty impressive. I could imagine a genre blending game dewveloped with these tools.
It will put HoN to shame.

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more excited for Starcraft 2, Blizzard proves me wrong.
I'm very impressed.
