Reading through this thread inspired me to go ahead and get the game instead of waiting for it on Steam. Awesomeface fun. I'd totally wanna jump in the league next go around, cause small community persistence is always fun. Gonna go read the wiki...
Edit: That is, if the league is expanded.
I did the exact same thing actually. I wouldn't mind getting in if the league as well, if it was expanded. I thinking of starting as Orcs in any case, as I hear they are a good starting team that still likes to bash things.
I really enjoy the dwarfs...since I like them in every fantasy setting. Though...gah, I haven't played against Wood Elves, but when Skaven or Humans pass it is a nightmare. That and they don't really expand in options as you go...just do the same thing every time.

I've had a Skaven throw from their goal line, across most of the field to another skaven, then run the rest of the way. It was absolutely aggravating.
That said, my Dwarf Team's a force to be reckoned with. I'm giving Guard to everyone, and a pair of runners with Dodge, Block, and Pro is a scary scary thing. One of them doesn't have Dodge yet, though. One has +1 movement allowance. I forget what else I gave one of them, who just hit level 5. Probably Fend.
Just finished a game against the Skaven. Knocked out five of their players and injured 7 of them, includnig their Rat Ogre.
The 1.0.1.4 patch is being finalized and will be available soon.
Changelog 1.0.1.4:
- Players with the Chainsaw skill can't use Frenzy nor Multiple Block
- Knocked Out players with the Secret Weapon skill are now correctly sent off by referee at the start of a drive
- Blitzing with a knocked down player now correctly uses Blitz
- Fixed characteristic increase skills not working in some case
- Casualty SPPs are now properly awarded when apothecary is used on a casualty
- Added a limited number of in-game pauses in multiplayer
- Journeymen are now added before petty cash
- Teams can hire Star Players in the open league
- Private league owner can now change results of current day's games even if games have been played
- Regional public rooms have been added in the multiplayer lobby
- A multiplayer game where one of the player disconnects at the loading screen should now be discarded
- Multisampling has been set to 1 in the option
Great, bought it, downloaded it, installed it, and now it crashes on startup. I hit "play", the splash screen showing copyright info is shown, the screen turns black for a moment, then I'm back at desktop.

Blood Bowl is one of the few newer games I can play on this computer as well as my brothers. This computer is some years old, and I haven't updated it in awhile. It isn't riven with bugs right now, but sometimes I get kind of lazy with that stuff and it's even worse. As it stands, I can play Blood Bowl on medium settings, if I'm willing to live with some jerkiness and a little lag, or low settings and it's pretty smooth, not as smooth as my brothers house on high settings, but I'm pretty far away from the players on the screen anyway :P

I played SF-Dhalsim last night in a scrimmage, and his dwarves tore my pub-rats a new one. It was a tie, but he killed a rat and two rats are out for next game. I can't afford to replace any of them, and since it was that pub team's first game, i don't see any point in keeping them around.

Good game though, Dhalsim.
Aye it was pretty good but in my defense of ass beatery I was rolling redonkulously well.
Things to work on for rats: If I am crowding the line take everything off of it except for stormvermin and a lineman. Then find random joes that are all alone and then beat the snot out of them. Your main concern is how do I get the ball back and how can I score faster, which admittedly became increasingly difficult due to me beating some ass on your rats.
Other than that great game. Really it was awesome.
However I don't understand how you got 60kg or 50kg but I got 20kg
FYI the way game winnings work is not explained well in the game, but is spelled out in detail in the LRB.
At the end of the game, both coaches roll 1d6. The winning coach has the option to reroll his die, but must keep the new result whether it is better or worse than the old one (not sure how this is handled exactly in the PC game). If you won or tie, you add 1 to your roll. If you had more fans show up than the other guy, you add 1 to the die. If you had more than double the fans of the other team, you add 2 instead of the 1 for having a fan advantage. Then you multiply that number by 10,000 and that is your winnings in gold.
Much like many other things in the game, there's a strong random element and it's not uncommon to have the losing team pull in more money than the winning team.
To sum up: The winning team can get between 20k and 90k depending on fan support, while the losing team can get between 10k and 80k.
However I don't understand how you got 60kg or 50kg but I got 20kg
The amount of gold you get is pretty random, I'll try to dig up the formula for you:
Generate winnings for the match. Each coach rolls a D6 and adds their FAME (see page 18). Your team receives this amount x 10,000 gold pieces as winnings for the match. If you won or tied the match you receive an additional 10,000 gold pieces. If you won the match you may also choose to reroll your D6, but you must accept the second result even if it is worse than the first. Remember that teams that concede a match do not receive any winnings.
Who will be on tonight after 10pm est for some games?
Was on again and no one else was on.
Also, anyone experience the network desyncs when playing games? Was playing a pub team and we ran into those. The game finished, I lost and it never took us to the manage team screen and the loss never was recorded nor were any of the SSP.

Edit: Dang, beat me too it chrisnl
I wonder how the reroll factors in. With 20k gold and a win, he must have had 0 fame and rolled a 1. I wonder if the computer just ignores the "you may reroll" or if it says "If less than 4, reroll" or something.
Edit: Because the reroll was a big part of the advantage for winning. If it isn't used effectively then the amount of money you make becomes even more random.
Yeah, the game has never given me an option to re-roll, which some games would have been really nice when I won.
Indeed. Given the number of games my elves won and received only 30k despite having more fans than my opponents (well, presumably based on FF and winning FAME-based kick-off rolls) it really would be nice if the winner's option to re-roll were actually available.
One of my complaints with the interface is that it doesn't actually show you what your FAME is, nor does it seem to show a lot of the really important rolls that go on during a game. With the random nature of a lot of things that happen in this game, it's very hard to tell just how lucky you have been sometimes.
It would help a lot if they would show the actual rolls that happen in a more clear manner, even for the things that are already shown in the combat/dice log that hides behind the chat window.
Still, it's a pretty solid implementation of the LRB5 rules for Blood Bowl, and I like the graphics far better than FUMBBL. With bug fixes still coming out, and hopefully more teams eventually, I'm reasonably pleased.

Not only show them, but have a log file of all rolls tagged with what they were for and a timestamp. A large number of people in the official forums are questioning how accurately the rules are implemented, but by not being able to see rolls and the results, it makes it difficult to prove anything. The mods/admins just tell them to stfu and that the game works fine.
Ideally at the end of each match the game would generate a log file of that game with all pertinent details and every roll, move, decision, etc. This would be awesome for tracking tons of various stats, but also make the commissioners job easier. Instead of manually updating a website, you could simply have each player upload their log file and then the server parse out the applicable data and update everything automagically.
I'd be happy if they just made clear how difficult a dodge is going to be. Not that it matters a whole lot for my lizardmen.
Skinks: always dodge at 3+
Saurus: Don't bother
BTW, if your game revolves around leagues, with championship game, why not include a spectator mode?
Oh yeah this is one thing that I do miss from FUMBBL. Also I would be up for a couple of games at about 6 or so, and by a couple of games I mean like 3-4.
Is Star Player the same as a Big Guy? Or is it just a high level guy?
Star Players are specific high level players with a number of skills. They're all loners, like fill-in players, but they're usually so damn good it doesn't matter, and can do a whole lot more to close the gap between teams than any of the current inducements.
edit: So one example would be Griff Oberwald is a star player who will play for human teams. It would cost 320,000 gp to hire him and his stats are 7 4 4 8 with Skills: Loner, Block, Dodge, Fend, Sprint, Sure Feet.
Is Star Player the same as a Big Guy? Or is it just a high level guy?
Star Players CAN be big guys however they're high leveled guys that normally have interesting abilties etc.
They're the badasses of the game. Like Varag Ghoul-Chewer who was an Orc Blitzer that ate an ENTIRE Undead team because he hadn't eaten anything in weeks because of team training.
Star Players are really important, too, because when you're facing a team that's way higher than you it gives you not only something to spend all your gold on, but a player with a bunch of skills (making him more of a match-up for your opponent's high level characters.)
I wish the game told you what your inducement gold was going to be BEFORE it asked if you wanted to use your real gold in inducements. That way if you're just 10k shy of something, you could decide to kick it in.

Well, your inducement gold is just opponent's TV minus your TV times 1,000 gp. So as long as you look at the TVs before or during the challenge you'll know what it will be.
Well after previously posting that I'd be on at 6 my previous engagment has ended and as such I can now play until whenever. So if anyone is interested in testing out teams or just want some good scrimms etc lemme know.
There is a log of each game, it's called bb000.log if the game completed successfully, and bb001.log if something went wrong. I'm not sure if it includes 100% of everything, but it includes a lot of things (and is also overwritten as soon as you start a new game I believe). I've run a couple through an online parser that analyzes the rolls, and nothing has been obviously out of whack in terms of number frequency. I'm just not sure if it only catches what is in the combat log area, or if it catches even the items that don't get shown there.
So i tried to play a game against Dhalsim and it was seriously the worst luck ever:
-burned both rerolls the opening turn thanks to double reds/both down
-gave up a touchdown on turn 3
-two guys knocked out
-blood bowl crashes
-computer crashes
Finally got the game to work and played my first game against the AI, my chaos vs humans. Managed to win 3-1 in a game that (sadly) had no casualties. I would've gone 3-0 but on the kickoff of turn-15 the fans stormed the field, completely stunning one of my wings, which he sent a catcher dashing down. The Beastman I blitzed to take him down rolled an attack down (no rerolls left), so on the 16th he passed and scored. Annoying. :?
I was doing awesome on defense (my first two TDs were from smashing through his offense and stealing the ball) but I felt my offense was mediocre, specifically while I had a good idea for defensive formation I had no idea how to arrange my offense. The two formations I considered trying were these, I settled on using the second, but it did poorly IMO. Anyone got advice for good offensive formations for Chaos?
And the final game stats just because I can.
I don't understand how my MVP was picked, it was a Beastman who accomplished absolutely nothing, no blocks, no KOs, no pickups, no running, nothing. What determines MVP? Is it completely random?

It is, indeed, completely random. It's to help SPP get distributed to the players that don't normally see much of it; i.e., linemen or other skill-less non-positionals.
Can someone enlighten me to how the equipment works in a tournament or campaign?
I buy stuff for some of my key players but i don't see it reflect in their stats or rolls.
The equipment is a Cyanide addition, not core Blood Bowl, but my understanding is that the increases equipment provide are not constant. Rather, there is a certain chance based on level of equipment of actually receiving the particular increase. I don't recall though whether that was each game or each half or each play that it would be determined whether or not you receive the increase.

If you got 3 TD with a new Chaos team, your offense was not mediocre. Chaos is not a great offensive team, especially early on with no ball-handling skills. My offense pretty much consisted of Chaos Warriors on the line of scrimmage, 2 Beasts on each wing in blitz range, and a couple of Beasts back to grab the ball. Nothing special. Without any Sure Hands, you're pretty much praying that your goats can manage to actually pick the ball up. Smash whoever you can, make a cage, and push forward.
