It's throwing the beach ball on my for anything- trying to find an artist in iTunes, trying to browse websites- and it's a little sickening honestly, because the last time a computer has failed to chug on with something this basic for me was in ~1999.

That's odd. Open Activity Monitor (Applications->Utilities->Activity Monitor) and see if anything else is eating up CPU cycles.

More details would help also. How much memory do you have, how long has it been doing this, did you change anything around the time it started doing this, etc.

Did you download the latest security update? Last update I downloaded fucked with my internet connection something fierce, beachballed any time I tried to open internet connect. Check the activity monitor.

I suggest you run a search online for a program called Onyx, and run a repair permissions plus a daily/weekly/monthly maintenance script run. After that, clean out your app/kernel/system caches (still using Onyx).

See how it runs after that. If it's still sluggish, there's a bigger issue.
