I have no idea how the manga could be better than the anime. The voice actors MAKE this series for me.

    Oda's art.

He's the master of facial expressions.

For someone new to the series, would you all recommend the anime or the manga? I'm leaning towards the anime, since it seems like a world like this would be better in color. But I don't want to miss stuff if there are things that happen in the manga but not the anime.

There's nothing that doesn't happen in the anime*, but the manga is considerably faster to read than watching 400 half-hour episodes.

*not entirely true, but it's nothing important.

For real. The man made a skeleton emote in a way that wasn't silly or that took away from the moment.

It's not 400 half hour episodes.

It's closer to 407 16-18 minute episodes. Makes a huge difference if you start skipping previews, openings, and endings when they have them, also recaps when those really start to become longish.

To be fair, the same facial expressions are in the anime.

Regardless, i'd start off with the anime, and then you're free to make the switch sometime around Skypeia if you so choose

Everyone has to hear New World Symphony. EVERYONE.

Without the anime, I could not listen to "Bink's Sake". And EVERYONE should listen to "Bink's Sake".

Edit: I just had it running in the background and XOB's avatar swings in rhythm with it. Awesome.

Faster is not necessarily better for me, I've pretty much already decided I like this.

If anyone's still trying to decide between the anime and the manga, it should be noted that the anime has a fantastic score with a mix of synthesizer and fully orchestrated musical cues.

I actually downloaded most, if not all of them.

Anyways, I quickly added everyone's bounty posters (save for one), and added one last picture to Luffy's profile.

    I'm starting on Zoro's now.

One reason to read the manga as well as watch the anime besides the faster pace and great background touches that sometimes never show up in the anime is the way the show can play it pretty fast and loose with Oda's style. Especially faces and head shapes. This becomes more and more egregious during the Water7 arc and beyond.

I'm probably in the minority on that, but it does detract from a scene when Luffy's got a too-wide face, gigantic straw hat and Robin becomes neigh unrecognizable were it not for her cloths.

The anime does however have to be seen simply for Binks Sake and Soge Kings' song.
