He roughly matches the picture of the ideal ship's carpenter that Luffy gave waaay back in the beginning with that shitty picture.

That scene is funny anytime of the day.

1 is more like an OAV, 2-5 are great and have fantastic animation, 6 is balls to the wall terrible but with a rather disturbing final battle, 7 is fanservice gone berserk and questions the laws of physics, 8 and 9 are reworkings of Alabasta and Drum Island and fairly good. They drastically changed the styles in 6-9. The character features are simplistic at best, movie 6 being the best worst example of this. I'd wish they'd go back to the old style.

His hair is based on Elvis. Franky is a parody of the Japanese stereotype of Americans, with his greaser hairstyle, sunglasses, Hawaiian shirt and love of cola. It's also why he shouts random English (to Japan, westerners just walk around shouting stuff like "WOW! SUPER! BABY!") and poses like he's from West Side Story. So he's a parody of a parody.

Edit: or to clarify, he's a parody of Japanese delinquents/punks from the 70s/80s whose style was based on what they saw from America.

What's the name of that One Piece OST that usually plays later down the series, when the crew lands at Angel Beach, during the second round of the Davy Back Fights, and at the beginning of Water 7?

It has an Irish/carnival vibe to it that's really nice, but god damn is it tough to find.

Ok, parts of it were gorgeous, but it seemed like they spent so much money on the backgrounds and digital crap that everything else suffered for it. There were times when people have no faces or the bare facsimile. I guess it wasn't bad, I just definitely preferred 4 and 5 to it, but it's been awhile so maybe I'll give it another look.

The actual animation in Movie 6 was buttery smooth. It's impossible to get that fluid nature without sacrificing detail work.

I'm willing to bet that many of the scenes ran at a full 24 frames per second.

Moved from the anime thread, feel free to add it to the op.
Your guide to One Piece films with chronological help so the movies don't spoil the anime for ya.
1 - Watch it after Syrup village but before Baratie. Kinda crappy, reminds me more of an OVA than a film.
Involves a boy trying to find a treasure that's also being hunted down by a lion man that can shoot lasers from his mouth (it's supposed to be a sound type fruit, but it comes out as SHOOP DA WOOP

2 - Right after Loguetown. As said before, it's short but well-done. Fun to watch with great action.
The straw hats ship is stolen by a bunch of pirates so two nearby salvagers help them out.

3 - Sometime after Drum Island. Just weird, stupid, and pointless. Also doesn't feel like One Piece as it includes mystical spiritual crap.
I wish I was making this up, a bunch of animals on an island (including a human kid) are looking for a new animal to replace their currently deceased animal king. Also, a zoologist is searching the island for a special pair of antlers that grant super strength when eaten, I kid you not.

4 - After Alabasta before Jaya. What many consider to be the best one. If you really want to watch a One Piece film, this is the one you want to watch.
The straw hats race against other pirate ships for the chance at a big prize. An ex-marine and a bounty hunter also get involved

5 - After Skypiea. It's pretty meh, like the third one it includes mystical spiritual crap but it's not cheesy. Watch it only if you've seen the good ones and are itching for more One Piece.
An old buddy of Zoro's from way back when he was training is possessed by a cursed sword. Drama ensues.

6 - Also after Skypiea. My personal favorite, it includes a drastic animation style change, a fun and scary story, and supporting filler characters that aren't complete deadweights *gasp*. Although many don't like it due to the different animation style, watch it anyway. Also, same director as The Girl who Leat Through Time.
The straw hats journey to an island that promises a paradise for pirates. Hilarity and horror enfold

7 - Right before Water 7. Crap. Pure and simple. Uninteresting story and ridiculous fanservice involving breasts jostling at the slightest movement, avoid this one.
A guy with a bunch of robots want to use the island they're standing as a weapon of war as it is a turtle. I know it sounds interesting but trust me it's terrible.

8 - A retelling of the Alabasta arc. Surprisingly it's not all that great. Pacing is poor, fights are criminally short, a lot of plot elements are left out, and no new world symphony (boo!). It's also the only movie that's been dubbed so there's that.
If you've seen the arc you know how it goes. It starts when the crew fish up Mr. 2 and continues from there. The entire part of the Rainy basin is cut along with Smoker and Luffy's second fight with Crocodile.

9 - A "What if" retelling of the Drum island arc, watch this after Enies Lobby. Same director as movie 6 this is another great one. Does the original arc justice and keeps almost all the great stuff intact. Watch it.
Pretty much the Drum Island arc except it also includes a sub-plot involving King Wapol's brother. Also no Vivi. And Robin, Franky, and the Thousand Sunny are there. It sounds confusing, but it's awesome.

So movie 6 has the same director as TokiKake eh? That's weird, because it reminded me so much of Mind Game.
    snapshot20090316153017.jpg

    A few shared animators maybe?
I was also surprised by the complete 180 the movie did at the end. I already knew it was supposed to have horror elements, but the first 50-75% of the film really didn't give that impression.

I dunno about that, he is like an anti-Sanji but we don't need that since Sanji+Zoro is already great. Other than that he brought nothing besides being a shipwright.
