it pretty much adds a higher level of realism to the game, like for example bullet penetration, wind affecting bullets, ability to deploy weapons, a wound system, advanced armor calculation, and a slew of new vehicles.
Edit: Went to some bars, got back at like 2, and jumped into the Op4 server. It's now 5am and I had a lot of fun doing sidemissions, with 4 other people, including Handsome Constanza. Great game.

Why isn't the WarFX particles mod allowed on the Op4 server?

Hah yeah that was a fun session. Night combat in this game is amazing especially when the explosions start happening.

It's allowed now, it wasn't because it wasn't signed. But we took down the whole signed requirements thing, it was causing more problems than the actual hackers.

I tried my hand at the op4 server, and I'll admit I was completely lost. Spawned at the main base with the objective miles away. I heard there was a mobile spawn point, but I had no idea how to change to it. I pretty much just sat around.

There should be a flag pole next to the supply crate in the main base. Walk up to it and point your weapon at it, options will appear for either teleport or parajump. If you have a parachute you can select parajump and then a map will appear allowing you to be dropped on any point that you click on. In ACE it will spawn you a couple feet off the ground with your chute already deployed. In a regular server it will drop you 1800 meters off the ground and you will have to open the chute yourself. Be advised it takes a good 800 meters for your chute to deploy so you will want to do it quickly. If you click teleport it will give you a selection for any MHQ's (spawn points) that may be deployed.
The most fun is waiting for a friendly helicopter to come and load up with troops. It's just a lot more exciting that way.

There's a flagpole where you spawn, use your scroll menu there and you get two options: Teleport or Choose Parachute location.
The first one allows you to teleport to the MHQ, and the parachute is obviously an option where you can choose where to parachute.
You can request pickup at base too, it's easier if you ask on TS3. Also you can take one of the Humvees, though we would greatly appreciate it if you don't leave it abandoned somewhere!

Oh, figuring the flapgole would have made things a lot easier.
There was one helicopter, but it filled out while I was running to it.

Okay, I'm in a dilemma. I really want to get on board for all this awesome I've been hearing about for a time....but am I correct in assuming that $40 is the cheapest you can get Operation Arrowhead for? It's a little steep, especially since I've heard a lot of the original Arma 2 mods don't work with it.
If so, I'll bite the bullet and order it off Amazon.
EDIT: Also, what's a good cheap USB headset to pick up? I really need a new one.
I just read that CFARMA2 is running tournaments on Duala now. I'm definitely playing there again.
No, I get that...and that was something I was actually going to ask about.
The thing is I already own Arma 2 (heh, duh), and buying it again sounds kind of....redundant.
Also, if I don't play it through Steam, I will still be able to join you guys, right? All Arma 2 online I've done in the past was through guys who also picked up the game at launch, mostly in Russia or Taiwan, and didn't play it through Steam. I know it's kind of a stupid question, but recently, I haven't played many online games through Steam.
Yeah, Steam and no-Steam versions are completely compatible.
I understand what you mean, $40 for OA does seem steep if you already own ARMA2. A good friend of mine just gifted it to me, but I'm pretty sure I would have caved in, the game's actually a big improvement, and if OA can give me 480+ hours like ARMA2 did, then I guess it's $40 well spent.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I'm so married to my Arma 2 mods, that the $40 is kind of a bite (apparently, NewEgg was selling it for $36, but it sold like hotcakes). I realize it's a stand alone game, and the improvements are alluring, I'm just really going to miss my mods.
Ah, well, I've got some money I was sitting on, and I can keep Arma 2 for all my practice/creative mission making needs. Plus I spotted a Creative headset that looks like it'd be comfortable, and comes with a detachable mic. Been using a Phillips headphones (without mike) for eight years now and they're literally falling apart.
I'm messing about with the editor right now and can't for the life of me figure out how to get the secop manager working. I have it (SOM module) sync'd with my player character and nothing else on the map. When I'm running around it will radio me up and assign a mission but there doesn't appear to be a way of replying yes/no on the radio.
Back when arma2 was new I did the same sort of thing and got it working, but maybe I'm missing something?
edit. I'm NOT trying to use it for artillery or anything, just to receive missions.
edit 2 : It seems to conflict with the simple support module. when I remove that, the radio reply options reappear
Ok, I could use help on this one. Six Updater says that I'm up to date with everything that the Op4 server has on it, but I still get an error that I can't load the mission because a bunch of ace and acex files have been deleted.
So I've been getting this bug playing on the op4 server that's really annoying, where I'm not able to get out of a vehicle/aircraft unless I'm in the driver seat. The only other way is respawning, which seems to remove the ability to do ANYTHING with the action menu except switch weapons and check the status menu

So the infrared scopes in OA are amazing as are the range adjustment settings. The only thing I dislike, which i suppose exists for realism purposes, is the fact that in IR scope mode you can't see where your bullets are landing. It makes on the fly adjustments impossible. I guess they want you actually adjusting your range instead of using phony video game tactics. As well as the fact that I'm pretty sure dirt puffs don't give off heat.

Actually got some time in at the Op4 server and had a lot of fun. Had my first helicopter insertion, which just felt badass. Also had some equipment issues, which turned out to be pretty funny. My squad was trying to take down some AA guns, but soon after touching down, we realized none of us had explosives. Cue us running around the island avoiding hostiles and trying to link up with other friendlies only to find out that they didn't have explosives either. We ended up rummaging through corpses in the dark seeing if any enemies had RPGs.

While this is a game that attracts much more mature audiences, it is still not rare to find dudes who will pack a TAC-50, a SMAW and a Ghillie suit and rambo the shit out of a main target on Domination.
The stamina system can be really confusing and stupid though. I can run for like 5 minutes without needing a break with a decent amount of gear, but when I respawn with the same gear I collapse every couple feet
Check your rucksack, there seems to be a bug that will start to duplicate your items in your rucksack, so by that 3rd respawn, you're probably already carrying 50kg worth of stuff.

Wow, it all makes sense now.
Also hey, what's the difference in the rucksacks? They all seem exactly the same except for their look?
I placed my order for Operation Arrowhead, which I look forward to getting.
Has anyone who first bought Arma 2 vanilla had any luck with setting up Arma 2 CO? Apparently, outside of steam, you can install Operation Arrowhead and it will automatically integrate Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA into Arma 2 CO. And I've heard this is not the case.
Can anyone clear this up? It would be nice not to copy all my mods, but it's not that big a deal anyway. The bigger problem are mods that rely on data from Arma 2 that's not in OA.
I have mine set up to load the vanilla ARMA2 files up whenever I start Arrowhead. It won't load other stuff by default unless you have it in the addons directory, which I advise against.
Yeah...don't update ACE2 anymore unless you have Arrowhead, and even then you need a separate install for non-Arrowhead ACE. They don't bother to tell you on Six itself but everything new is OA only. You'll need to delete it all and download 1.3 again. I ended up with an entirely separate ARMA2 install outside of the registry path because when I installed ACE for Arrowhead it put it in my normal ARMA folder rather than the OA one. Such a mess.
