So what did this new 11/12/10 patch do? The readme basically says "various improvements"

This game used to be fun until they patched it and turned all my textures into extreme low res mush akin to the N64.
I've literally reinstalled the game from scratch 5 different times and the texture problem is still there. I didn't know it was possible for a dev to permanently break a game for me through a patch. I've noticed other people (primarily those with ATI 5850 cards) have had this problem as well and it doesn't seem like they give a shit about fixing it. I'll never give them another dime. It's a shame because it was a really good game.
I dunno what the issue is, my game looks fine regardless of patches. It's most likely a hardware/driver issue.
ive installed reinstalled drivers... installed beta drivers... disabled crossfire.. I even swapped out my cards with one of my friends geforce cards and nothing changed.
stupid question but you did try to change the graphics settings, right?
Yes I have changed the graphics settings every which way and they are the same muddy textures from low to very high. I used to run the game on very high with everything on full with a 45+ frame rate.
1.55 added a large number of video problems but supposedly we're getting another patch when the new DLC hits. Hopefully it will get sorted out at that time.
Also, try setting video memory to default. I've never been able to get it to work very well otherwise.

This is more for anybody interested in getting the game (obviously) than those already playing it, but Steam has Arma II and Operation Arrowhead on sale together for 22 dollhairs. Might want to have it up in the thread title as well.
I know there's no way I can pass up on that price.

I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier on, but there's another expansion in development currently.
It focuses on PMC's, and the campaign appears to focus around a war-torn stretch of road that allied forces need to ferry supplies. Guess who gets the job of guarding it and driving convoys through the place?
I'm expecting lots of jury rigged weapons on vehicles with this expansion. The PMC/Terrorist angle is just too good to pass that up.
Nevermind that it's just what ARMA2 needs to help the mod makers finish up the zombie maps and mods out there. A proper ARMA2 Quarantine map would be fucking awesome.
Neither the British Armed Forces nor the upcoming Private Military Company DLCs are important. If you're looking at what to get from the Steam sale, get Combined Operations, which includes Arma II and the Operation Arrowhead expansion. BAF adds some vehicles, weapons, and infantry-type guys from the British military as well as a short single-player campaign. It's unnecessary for multiplayer unless you're really focusing on those units in your missions because all Arma owners get those units, just at a very drastically reduced resolution. The doodads are neat, though.
If we get an influx of new PA players I would happily run some missions, but we would need a server to play on. Alternatively there are other dedicated groups that are happy to have new players drop in.
Speaking of, if I could get an invite to PA Joe that'd be cool.

Okay, I just picked up the combined pack. I plan on playing through the ArmA2 campaign and then the OA campaign. Should I install both before playing either or does OA not have any affect on the original game?
I play, though I need to update...I'm presuming I won't get the same bug as the guy who had the graphics problems.

I'm wrapping my brain around the game right now but I could do with some people trying to get games together. Managed to complete an entire campaign mission so far without taking a single casualty. And I haven't crashed any choppers in training which is more than I can say for the likes of BC2.
I even managed to land the F35 on an aircraft carrier. I'm so proud of myself.
ACE2 is the way to go, except in the stock campaigns, because the AI is clueless.

Yes, the clueless AI is readily apparent to me. I just had a moment where there were so busy calling out a target busy filling me with bullets that they didn't bother to just shoot the bastard. "Enemy, near, ahead" doesn't really do me any good when the guy isn't in front of me but is having a grand time perforating my innards.
Oh, and then they also went prone in the middle of the road instead of shooting back. So I get hit a couple times from the side, hear the callout, watch as my team drops to ground instead of shooting back, and then I'm bleeding out. Good work, soldiers. Good work.

ACE2 also breaks many of the scripted events in the campaign.

Man, this campaign mission is really starting to piss me off. I'm supposed to support a unit pinned by a sniper, but then they give me a near-useless location on the sniper. They also fail to mention that there are actually four of five other enemies in the exact same area. On top of all that, the sniper has 360-degree vision so he knows where I'm coming from regardless of direction. Between his omnicient vision and terrible location data, I haven't even been able to see the guy yet.
Infinitely more importantantly, I've walked by a couple of tanks and BMPs while hoofing it all the way to marked area. They aren't doing anything, so why the hell am I stuck trying to approach a sniper position on foot when these guys are covering nothing and have infrared scopes to boot? And why isn't the attack chopper constantly flying overhead doing something useful like finding the guy with infrared instead of flying in circles?
Oh yeah, and if I take too long finding the sniper I fail the objective because the wounded soldiers I can't reach up and die. I'm digging the game overall, but this is seriously a wretched piece of level design.
Also, thanks to whoever mentioned the thing about 3D resolution matching your regular resolution. I really could not figure out why the hell the game looked so blurry and that fixed the issue.

I've only done the Arma2 boot camp missions and part of the first Harvest Red mission, but I'm really digging this. It's definitely giving me an OpFlash vibe, that ArmA 1 didn't.
You should give the campaign a go in coop. It makes it so much fun. Especially some of the open ended missions where you're trying to track bad dudes down.

I would definitely be open to the idea. Is there a PA group? And can you mix and match co-op/single-player?
As far as I know, the hosting player always plays as Cooper. Everyone else that joins takes control of the other members of the team. I like playing as O'Hara because the headband is uber badass.
