Haha, TBH. I just came from that thread. You messed with my brain a bit.

I like Sonelan server, way less laggy for me. Though, ultimately, I need to upgrade my internet connection to something better then this POS DSl connection I have right now. I'm tempted to get cable, but I dont want to get in a contract just to cancel early. Then again, it doesnt matter how fast my connection is if my computer chocks and FPS drops in the low teens.....fucking game is costing me too much money.
Anyways, I like Sonar idea of central story 'theme' for P.A. specific missions. I'm currently cooking a mission in my head that should be unique and fun.
I just bought the TrackIR 5 with the TrackClip Pro bundle. I should get it on Tuesday seeing how I had it shipped next day air. This game is good but I think it will really rock now.
The nicest thing about the new server is that it can handle in game voice chat which is RIDICULOUSLY nice. When we were playing the assassination/ambush mission it made a huge difference in being order to communicate information.

Worst ambush spot ever
The first attempt at the mission was hilarious.
"Oh god they are already here!"
I liked how Bravo did their job the first two or three times while the ambush team got owned horribly. Then, the last two times, Alpha actually killed the convoy and Bravo kept running into a patrol. :P
syrion, i just sent you an updated version of my mission. if you could replace the other file, i'd appreciate it.
thanks to everyone who tested it out last night (paul, sorry you got blown up). i'd like to give it another shot soon if people are interested. i think its totally doable with 8 people, but there are 12 spots. so yeah, i'll be around later on if anyone wants to try it.
for anyone who didn't play it. its a convoy sweep of local towns for terrorist activity. you have to locate terrorist elements and eliminate them. be watchful for suspicious behavior and things like suicide bombers, car bombs, and IEDs.
first town objective hint:
there will always be a vehicle with an explosives cache stored in it that must be destroyed. the other threats are variable
My only concern with 8 people would be fire support. The three humvees' machine guns should chew up anyone who's spotted early enough, but with only two it gets a bit dicey.
Next time we play it, we should direct A sweepers to the street, B sweepers to the left, and C sweepers to the right; it would make it a little bit more organized (the sweepers would actually know who they were supposed to be near).
I really enjoyed the mission (the part before I crashed) and the sweepers seemed like a good idea.

Oh by the by, ArmaHolic is the go to spot for ArmA 1 & 2 stuff. They got new uniforms, vehicles, guns, sounds, islands, objects, missions, server tools, etc.
Granted there is not much at the moment, but it will fill up with all kinds of awesome soon enough.

A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
I'm pretty sure that the visibility of the uniform doesn't influence how well the AI spots us, so we probably don't have to concentrate on making them super-realistic camo.
It's up to you guys.

I would say look at the G.I. Joe line up. Maybe some kind of "cool" yet impractical uniform.
You would be an awesome dude for it.
edit- Let me see if I an find some examples. Also. . . the P.A. Joe logo needs to be on there somewhere. Unit patch?

So it seems that the options are replacement textures for the stock units (activated as a mod) or creating new unit types which I suppose would have to be included in missions.

So I downloaded VSB1 just to try it out. It's more buggy than Operation Flashpoint. It's based off of an early version of their engine, except they added a bunch of stuff and removed the story line. I don't understand it. This is meant for military use, and several militaries actually bought and use it, and it crashes more than Operation Flashpoint.
Why can't they get programmers that know what they're doing? It's not that hard. Just go out and hire some. Especially if you're marketing it towards the government.

They clearly know what they're doing, otherwise ArmA wouldn't be as huge and capable as it is. It's just that with more complexity, the probability of bugs increases exponentially. Take TF2 versus ArmA 2. TF2 is pretty much free of any show-stopping bugs, while ArmA 2 has some very annoying flaws like the "giant explosion desync" we experimented with last night. Would VALVe have released a less buggy game? Yes, because VALVe has more resources and can afford to delay games for years. On the other hand, the philosophies of BIS and VALVe are completely different; VALVe would never have attempted a game on the scale of ArmA.
Does it annoy me when ArmA lags? When its LOD takes forever to resolve? When its textures stay low-res on a high-LOD model? Yes, absolutely. Do I wish I hadn't spent my money on it? Absolutely not. TF2 is a fun game, but ArmA 2 is an example of why I am a PC gamer.

I sent Sonar a message but he's offline, so I figured maybe a post to the thread could short circuit the whole process.

I'll get to work on it.
Suggestions?
