FLAC for CD archiving

I've been reading about FLAC, and like what I see. Lossless compression, open format (thinking about switching to Linux soon, and I just like the whole open philosophy), etc. I also notice that, when you're ripping a CD to FLAC, you can make the entire disc a single file, which would make my music folder a heck of a lot more organized.

I've tried doing this (using Max on OS X) and I get a single file for the whole CD, that has all the tracks within it. The problem is, when I go to play the file, players see it as a single, 40ish-minute long track.

Now, I hear about cue sheets, and that they preserve all the track info. Is this what I want to generate when I rip to a single file? Also, is there a way to somehow merge the cue file with the audio FLAC file (I'm assuming the cue file is separate), so that I don't have to have two files for every disc? Being able to have all my CDs listed in one neat folder, with a single file for each, would be great; is this doable while still being able to play individual tracks?

Anything else I should know about the FLAC format? I know a lot of portable players don't play it, but that's not a problem.

Yeah, you want to generate cue sheets. And yeah, you can embed them in the FLAC metadata. I don't know how to do it in Max, but you can do it with the FLAC command line tool.
