Man I cannot stop cracking up at the dude with the bison head.
He's actually a Phantom Spaceman! Also, he's a more original design than anything in Survivor. That's why they didn't use Kaneko for Survivor, he needed time for the brain juices to start flowing. We have now been blessed with Space Bison.
Oh god. Are you going to start defending bison man now too?
Calling it now, the secret boss will be Yuzu. She'll do nothing but sonic type damage by screaming "I WANT TO GO HOOOOOOOOOOOOME" and physical type by thrusting her boobs in your face.
But see, Bison Man is from Kaneko, so that makes it okay. :P
If he had designed a party tricked out in headphones and pocky, no one would've complained.
At least I doubt it.
There's always a reason to complain about Pocky. Now if it was a team eating Koala Cookies, that would be off-limits. There's nothing wrong with Koala Cookies. Nothing.

Actually I was going to originally blame Survivor for giving us M. Bisonhead. Also, I refuse to think of them being in the South Pole. I'm going to believe that they're so isolated that it might as well be space. Bison can't be in the south pole after all, but space is acceptable!
Yuzu would be a horrible secret boss. She'd forget what to do after 3 turns, even after you send her an e-mail explaining what you're going to do and how she can counter it.
SMT+First Person+DS=First SMT game I've been excited about since....2?

Metric ton of infos shamelessly jacked from some other board(GAF):
- Shin Megami Tensei STRANGE JOURNEY
(DS/RPG/Oct 8/6279 yen)
- more than 300 types of demons, including from past games
- main character is a soldier born in Japan
- you can communicate with demons, as well as merge them
- The system is in 1st person view (upper screen)with map display (lower screen) like EO series
The map grid looks much more zoomed out than EO, so its either a different view, or not made for you to draw on. It's still on the bottom screen, though.
Four member parties
Pictures show one human with three demons.
Moon Phases.
The humans' suits look kind of futuristic, and the team has some sort of transport vehicle (looks kind of like the one from Advance Wars).
On the map, it has four options.
X: Mission Log
Y: Demon (a few letters at the end I can't make out)
Analyze
Icon Help
That there's no button assigned to the last two might indicate touch screen...
Looks like it takes place on both the snowy surface and in ice caves.
In battle, X: Auto, Y: Condition, and there are little icons next to your party portraits that show what attack they're presumably going to do.
Some demons are definitely taken straight from Devil Survivor (Wendigo). Some new demons I don't recognize, and some from other SMT games that weren't in DS.
CO-OP attacks using several party members (niiiiiiiiiiiiice)
Nothing in the screens looks like it has press-turn, but there is an icon that says WEAK over one attack.
Demon fusion (12 demon roster, from the looks of it). Demon shows "Neutral-Chaos", so it looks like it uses the 3x3 allignment system in some form.
Physical, Gun, Fire, Ice, Elec, Wind, Light, and Dark elements.
300 Demons? Holy fuck, that's about as many that appeared across all the PS2 games. Let's hope the game is hard enough to require a lot of fusing.
It's good to have Kaneko back on character design, though I would have prefered it if it was on a console; That cell shader they had for Nocturne and the DDS games really suited his designs.
But that is just nitpicking considering I am still all over this.
I wonder why we haven't gotten news of a next-gen (or this-gen or whatever) SMT yet. Wasn't Nocturne a relatively early PS2 release? I wonder if 360 and/or PS3 just cost tons more money to develop for than PS2 did at the time.
Probably. HD games are upwards of 10-30 million easy, and RPGs can be even more so by their very nature.
And this is Atlus we're talking about. Not exactly a high profit developer/publisher. If anything, I'd prefer that they keep their own costs down so they can afford to keep developing awesome games, and publish awesome obscure/niche stuff like Knights in the Nightmare.
TLDR - Atlus games are too niche for HD Development costs.
Those "Demonika/Demonica Suits" that the human characters are wearing look pretty cool--like some kind of bizarre merger between an old-timey diving suit and an Iron Man suit. I'm assuming that they have some kind of technology built into them that allows the hero to understand the language of demons and thus negotiate with them.
That, or we get another visit from Steven and another chance to download the Demon Summoning Program.

I am very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.
The SMT series almost completely skipped the PS1 generation, so I wouldn't be surprised if it skips this one and waits for the next.

A spatial rift appeared over Antarctica, threatening the seven billion humans who live on planet Earth. Humans call the place it leads to “Schwarz-verse,” and exploring this mysterious dimension is your goal as the protagonist in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.
As a member of the exploration team sent in order to find a way to counter this unknown factor, you discover that the other world was much harsher than you could have imagined, with demons that only appear in legends and myths appearing before you.
“You” are the nameless protagonist, a Japanese elite soldier who has received harsh training and discipline. Under the orders of the country, you join the exploration team on the ship Red Sprite No. 1. This amphibious ship serves as a base in the unknown world, being the only place you can consider safe. Aside from the Red Sprite No. 1 that the protagonist rides, there also exist other ships, named the Blue Jet No. 2, Elves No. 3, and Gigantic No. 4.
Your crew is a hodgepodge gathering of elite scientists and soldiers from all over the world. The men on No. 1 are the commanding crew, while those on No. 2 and 4 specialize in battle, and the people on No. 3 are scientists. Here is a quick glimpse at some of your crew members:
Essential to the series are the demons, and there are plenty of them in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. In fact, there are more in here than in any other series in the SMT main series, numbering at 300. Kaneko Kazuma, the artist behind the SMT series since the very first game, returned to create new monsters for Strange Journey. Morax, a humanoid with a bison head (one of the many demons in the Key of Solomon), and the demonic-looking Bugaboo are two examples.

Oh, well we know Ship 3 is the ship full of badguys. You can't trust elves. They're all assholes. Every single one of them, in every game ever made.
Also, obligatory "I see your Schwarz-verse is as big as mine." joke.

On the other hand it looks kind of cool and I need more games for my ds. I will totally buy this if it doesn't play like an srpg. I hate srpg.
o_O
How many First Person SRPGs have you ever played?
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
I actually wrote that before I looked at the screenshots and realized it was first person.

I'd support him.

I dunno, it looks like a straight-up dungeon crawler. I'm not expecting a ton of interactive plot.

Edit: Also, all you Yuzu haters can go suck a brick.

And maybe I can go home.
Hey, guys, I think I'm going to go home.
Wait what's going on?

What does arguably the biggest time waster on the internet have to do with this?
