Artist Groups?

I know there are a lot of artists on these boards so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some good artist websites, groups, coalitions, anything that would get me tapped into and networking with other artists. I've tried googling for art clubs and groups but I haven't really found anything. I'm hoping to find something where I could actually meet live humans, but I will accept websites as well.

I've heard that Deviant art is actually a pretty decent way to stay in touch with good artists. Bear in mind, this is just the "through the grape vine" sort of thing. When people at PA talk about an artist, fairly often someone says they know them through Deviant art.

However, that place can tend to be a cesspool of horror if you don't know who you're looking for, so there might be much better places to find what you want.

I hope I don't get infracted for linking other webforums on my second post. Not entirely sure what those rules are in relation to H/A.

Not mentioning the type of art makes it rather difficult to find anything specific for you. However:

For modern day commercial arts (concept art for games, movies, illustration, and stuff like that) as well as learning the foundation of traditional and digital art, (NSFW, art site and all) http://www.conceptart.org is excellent. They have a sub forum as well for their groups locally in many different countries/cities.

(NSFW, same deal - art site.) CGTalk is sort of the same, but purely digital, and more focused on just showcasing yourself. There's a higher degree of professionals there.

There was a website that I found once that was same-ish as the first, but focused purely on traditional classical types of work. I'll get back if I can remember what it was, it's on the tip of my tongue but can't seem to find it.
