I understand the need for a healing class to be weak as attackers. Otherwise you wind up with a character type that can do everything and you hardly need anything else.
However, as it stands the Medic is the one character type out of nine who cannot justify doing anything but sitting around and watching bars fill up. Every other class has, as part of its job description, "kills things". Good Medics don't seek out enemies, and as a result playing a Medic is boring. The Medic's emphasis should absolutely be on assisting his allies, but there should be some viable option to assist allies while attacking enemies. I'd like to be part of the action without giving up the ability to heal entirely (as in, switch to Scout).
Hence the Gesundeib. Hence my suggestion that the Syringe Gun make its victims suffer Mini-Crits from other damage sources while it's striking them. Hence anything else I've ever said about the Medic.
Playing medic is not boring. They are often at the front lines, leading the way. Sure they might be ubercharged with someone else who is killing stuff, but saying medic is boring to play is probably indicative of not playing medic right.
Yeah, one of the main reasons I don't play medic more is that my ubers end up being absolutely countered. Either I or my heal target is killed right before/as I deploy the uber, or we're blown into the air or stunned by a scout. It just isn't any fun to have a class-defining skill be rendered totally useless.
Playing a medic is a ton of fun and you do seek out enemies.
Your enemy is damage and you seek out and eliminate the black parts of your team's health bar.
It just isn't any fun to have a class-defining skill be rendered totally useless.
I totally agree with this and it's one of the things I hate about the updates. Why can't the uber function like the steel power up in Smash Bros where you just become heavy as hell and can't be leaf blown? Same with the baseball, you're supposed to be invincible for a limited time. Invincible does not mean stopped by a baseball.

On the other hand, I do sort of agree that the uber shouldn't be completely unstoppable. I'm just not sure of any better way to set things up.
"Hmm what is this my support class that is focused on healing doesn't do much else than healing??? Why don't they upgrade it to have more offensive capabilities or defensive or other stuff that makes me do the roles of other classes?"
"oh..oh because other classes exist...and fill those roles fine...team game yes I see...."

Does the F-A-N knock them back?
I think that leafblower should still work since they need to get close to cut off the uber and you can kill a pyro pretty quickly. But the ball really is annoying because it is a longer stun if the Scout is far away.
I think most of the uber-halting can be easily avoided with a post-uber push, something that is missing a lot of the time.
On the PA servers, people seem to get this idea but out in the wild I will see an uber deploy and absolutely nothing to back it up. Even if an uber is stopped, having a Soldier or Demo following helps
1. take out any sentries distracted by the uber (even if being blown back or stunned.)
2. give the medic another target if the uber pops too late and the original taget is killed.
3. give the medic another target if the original is stunned.
4. clean up / capture the point after the uber ends and any leftovers take out the Medic + target.
All I'm saying is medic is boring as hell unless I'm recklessly or aggressively trying to take down foos with my overpowered blutsauger. Maybe something that involves you more actively buffing your allies would help, like that medigun I described, except your target (but not yourself) take half damage when you activate it. Then you could be actively trying to reduce damage taken.

Healing a target already actively cancels out some damage done to it??

But healing doesn't require any attention on your part. I can lock my beam on someone and then just stare at the ground and still do my job. The only reason I need to pay attention is to heal multiple people *and to dodge (but everyone needs to dodge). Maybe medic is just not cut out for me.

Pretty much this
Also pretty much the only time I remember having a substantial amount of fun as a medic was the one league game where I was one and called the shots for the rest of the team, placement and strats. It's just so intense, even as everyone on your team completely gives a shit about you living, because literally everyone on the other team wants you dead first.

Yes and it's designed like that to aid newer players and make it less of a headache to play the most vital class in the game
Lately on the PA servers, whenever there's a map vote, inevitably some jackass will post "!revote" or bitch at everyone for voting in a map that s/he doesn't like.
If you don't like a particular map, you are free to play on another server until it is finished.
Even worse are the people who try to shit up a map that they don't want to play.
"Everyone go demo hurrrr"
Play the game and enjoy it or GTFO so someone who wants to play can get in.
It used to be that I would get MADSTABZ against STUPID PUNY SCOUTS who think that just because they can stand on my skull it makes them safe, then bitching on forums.
Instead of giving the scout steel bottomed shoes they fucked over EVERY backstab, ever, then the Badassador comes out and spies cried out in joy, knowing it was just a ruse to get people to use their new weapon and that sanity would return shortly.
I'm still waiting for you to fix stabs Valve, especially now that the Razorback knocks off 25 health and fucks up every action you take, without having a speed penalty.

I offer you insted that if you're sick of the bitching then you can change servers and let someone else play.
Uber is for raw power against buildings, Kritz is for killing mans at a distance. I personally play kritz because it does alleviate the boredom factor -- I rarely feel like I'm hanging around 'waiting', and it definitely forces you to stay engaged as much as you can.
Anyway, medic isn't boring. It's fun being the highest-value target of the team that every sniper, scout, and spy is gunning for.

I just unlocked the kritz the other night, and I swear I play worse when I equip it instead of the regular uber.
Everyone bitches about all the maps all the time always.
Just as everyone bitches about any class they don't play always.
And the call for "All Spy!" or "All Engie" or "All Demo" is a frequent request. Sometimes, the stars align and everyone on a team complies - usually it doesn't last very long - but I always find it amusing and think it makes for a good game. I have yet to be on a PA server and feel like my fun is being ruined by complaints or All Team X!

I really hope a patch comes out today so we have something to talk about. And did tiny post the results of the first tourny game yet? I mean, I know who won, but I wanna see what the scores ended up being.
I played on a public server over the weekend and it was a CtI map. My medic skills seemed useless, although I did manage to uber a scout carrying the intelligence just as he was about to get wiped out by a pair of snipers. The map was 2 fort. What's with that 2nd floor courtyard anyway?

By the way, "!revote" is not a sign of protest against the current choice of next map. It's a command statement that pops the voting window back up so the speaker can change their choice. This helps alleviate the effect of accidentally voting while trying to switch weapons. If you're seeing !revotes appear after the poll is over, chalk it up to the next map poll closing really damn fast rather than pathos on the part of the revoters.

Aren't you clever? You imply that seeing people bitch about every single map change is more fun than just S'ingTFU and playing and enjoying the game.
By that logic, you shouldn't be playing games at all. Just post about minutiae in the WoW forums for free!
Maybe because a majority of the people playing want to play Egypt.
Just because a vocal minority hate the map it doesn't mean it's a bad map. Come on people...
strange, i just got the urge to bitch about hydro despite not playing it for several weeks.

I blame all of the scouts.
Well it IS the worst map.
I think it's the combination of me not liking the map and all of the scouts.
Though, once I decided to just give in and I went scout and had a decent amount of fun.
