Would a 360 look really bad on a non-hd tv? And if it does look bad, how bad? Would it still look better than the PS2? Please forgive me if these questions are silly or seem noobish. I'd like to buy a 360 but don't want the games to look like ass.

Well, it looks worse than an HD TV, but not awful.
Remember, HD TVs weren't that common when the 360 was first released. You will find some problems with newer games and reading the text, but that's a fairly Rare problem.
I had a problem with this when I was playing Rainbow Six: Vegas on a non-HD flatscreen 20" tv. I couldn't ever make out the words because the text was so small and blurry. Happens on a lot of other games as well.
Imagine my surprise when I got my HDTV and the first thing that amazed me was being able to read the text perfectly. Haha.

(Get it? RARE? Banjo and Kazooie? Oh man)
If it's a decent size TV you should be fine.
The main pitfalls you'll encounter is that some games are simply not designed with SD screens in mind and can be harder to play because of it.
The #1 example of that is Dead Rising -- all the text is extremely hard to read (due to small size and blurriness) on a SD screen.
