Live-Action PA Fan Video! - Prototype "Consumer Advocacy" Parody!

edited July 2009 in Games and Technology
Hey Guys!

So as I was making my Prototype Parody Review Video when I saw the “Consumer Advocacy” Comic Strip and it made me laugh my ass off. There is NO better reason to buy prototype than kicking helicopters mid air.
So I thought since I had all my equipment setup, it might be fun to pay homage to Penny Arcade - home of some of the best webcomics on the internetz!

Here's a Screenshot:

And the Original:

Watch it here:
Penny Arcade: Prototype Live Action Video

Hope you liked it guys! if you did, we got alot of other stuff like this check it!

Post it in the Prototype thread. This will probably get closed as the mods don't like site whoring.

    Seriously?

Well this isn't "site whoring", this is simply a fan posting a link to a friggin homage. wtf.

Hope your wrong, but maybe I could move it to fan art or prototype I suppose - thanks for your feedback, I guess - what did you think of the video?

Glad you guys jumped in, i was starting to get the wrong impression about the PA forum users, but i forgot theres always one of these guys in threads I post. Internet police guys, I have no idea why they hate people who own websites other than the one they are on. Oh well.

Just trying to share something with some PA fans!

Okay we all know [Prototype] is a good game and you should buy it, But how would you guys rate it out of 10?

I went with an 8/10 (wishing it had that co-op feature they talked about long ago).

The sitewhoring rule isn't anything personal. It's to stop people just showing up, starting a thread to say "hey guys come check out my blog post/website/flickr pictures of cats" and then buggering off. The best course of action is to send a PM to a mod asking permission for the thread, and they might either agree to it or ask you to just post it in an existing relevant thread.

I enjoyed it as a recreation of the comic. It's a well done video and it captures the spirit of the comic. And on his site that's exactly how he sets it up, with full credit and all that stuff. He didn't try to sell me anything, the OP was upfront and well done, and I was entertained so I didn't find it offensive that he zomglinkedtohissite.

The guy did some fun work that was inspired by PA and shared it with us. I don't see the harm there.

I cant believe some of the arrogance of you internet "police" WTF is your deal. Get over yourselves, seriously.

This isn't site whoring - If HTML code was friggin enable, I would have embedded the video here you A-Holes.

No, that would be if it was irrelevant to anything here on the site, This post is more relevant to PA (we are here on the comics forums) than half the garbage posted daily. Not only is it about the comic itself its about the game they enjoyed alot - which I did as well.

I cant believe the stupidity and smugness of some people on the internet, instead of talking about our love for PA, Prototype or making videos you guys instead want to debate with me on whether I should have the right to share something with like-minded individuals about Penny Arcade itself. Unbelievable. I hope the lot of you dont represent the whole of the PA community here. This is retarded.

What do you think Tycho or Gabe would think of the video? Yea. Quit your complaining just so you can ad another post to your post count and move on.

I was content with just posting here to show some fans of PA, but now I think ill forward to the PA guys and mods themselves, just to prove a point. Christ.

Oh the music just wraps up the whole video (this is the ending segment to the full review parody), so thats why its kind all sentimental in a way. LoL. Plus i've killed so many damn helicopter pilots in that way in the game that I think its appropriate funeral music!

Angry joe, little piece of advice: you should lurk for a couple of days and get a feel of the forum before posting a new thread and getting in a fight with the regulars. The mods created the "site whoring" rule for a reason, this is a site with great visibility. I do believe that your movie is relevant and should be mentioned in this forum, but it would have worked better if, for instance, you had posted on the Prototype thread.

Ok. Limed and bolded for Truth. Also, I believe the bandwidth wasted on that embarrassment of a video is now so tainted by the crapfest I just saw that it's not even worthy of being donated to needy children in africa. That someone wasted CPU cycles on encoding this, when they could have been running Folding@Home brings tears to my eyes.
I'd like at this point to say that I'm joking. Really. But this was actually the first thing that flitted thru my mind after watching this trainwreck of a "Parody". I made this for you guys and Penny Arcade, last thing I want is some few to come spoil the fun. I like to argue no doubt about that, but not at the risk of the content.

I wanted to know what you thought of it and/or the game prototype. I think the worst part if how they told us about co-op, but then dropped the feature later on - really could have made this a AAA title.

    Dude. Chill.

We brought up the sitewhoring rule because that happens to be how our community functions. We just have frequent problems with people whipping by, cluttering up the boards with "Look at this awesome thing I made!" threads and then leaving.

It's not a big deal. We aren't whining. We aren't judging you. It's not a personal attack. Nobody is saying your work is worthless unless they outright say "Hey! This shit you linked is awful." The fact that there are any people at all in the thread saying that they aren't offended by what is essentially a "Look at this awesome thing I made!" thread should be pretty telling that maybe you posted something more interesting than we usually get around here. Take that as a compliment.

Anyway, this forum is a bit different than your average hub of the internet. Lurk around a bit and get a feel for it. We always welcome new members.

This is why this should just be in the Prototype thread. Nobody means offense (well, I'm sure some people do now) so I don't understand why you're flying off the handle.

Picture it like this. You live in a beautiful house. Nice hardwood floors, beautiful fireplace, there's a hot tub inside the living room, etc etc. You treat the house with a great deal of respect because, hey, pretty nice spot and you'd like it to remain that way. So you make some simple rules (really just so other people can enjoy your great spot too) for people to follow - and people do because, hey, pretty nice spot.

Then one day someone comes in off the street and shits in the middle of your hot tub. Not cool right?

Tips on how to not appear to site-whore:
    1) Don't name your profile/avatar after your site/show/project. It's tacky.
    2) Don't make your sig a link/info about your project. This is acceptable after you have been around a bit, but is pretty bad when you're new. Also tacky.
    3) Don't make your first post about your project, actually get at least somewhat acquainted with the community. Given your reaction to people calling it site-whoring, you obviously have no idea about your target audience and really just wanted to plug your project.
    4) Definitely don't attack people for calling out your thread as a site-whore, when that is exactly what it appears to be, even if you didn't mean it to be.

AngryJoe just shot himself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Penny-Arcade culture (I'm an expert), but rules are a huge part of it. It's not like it is in NeoGAF where you can become successfull by being an asshole. If you sitewhore something over in Penny-Arcade, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Penny-Arcade public, after reading about this, is not going to want to watch those videos, nor will they click any of AngryJoe's links. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but AngryJoe has alienated an entire market with this move.
