Yeah, he's right. If you put it into a US PS2, it gives the, "please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 disc" or the red splash screen you get when you put in an incompatible disc.

Damn, is there anyway to get around that? Any type of boot loader like a game shark? Or would this require a hardware mod? Because a Japanese PS2 costs twice as much as ones in the store.
And just out of curiosity. I have a 60 PS3, would this game play on that? Sorry about the basic questions. I've never imported a game like this before.
Search Swap Magic, and it's okay, I had that looming over my head for awhile too (I can't give you any links because it's technically illegal).
The PS3 may be region free, but that's only for PS3 software. PS1/2 games are still region locked on a PS3. When I wanted to play my Bemani games, I just bit the bullet and bought a Japanese region PS2. It was the most expensive, but the least hassle, since I tried the boot disc method before, and it was a huge hassle if you wanted to play a different game (at least in my experience).
