So I had my first fraudulent charges made against my account this weekend. Just went through today. Hooray! The best part is how both withdrawals were made at an ATM, since I have never used an ATM.

Yes, this is also incredibly infuriating. As a result my new birthday has become the 1st of January somewhere in the early 1900s.

call your bank/credit card company immediately

they got people for this (i know, i used to be one of them!)

unless they were the ones who contacted you

in which case they probably got that shit under control

I had this happen to me after I was staying at someone else's place after my apartment caught fire. I had to go to a lawyer, get an affidavit, go back to the bank and get my account unlocked. Only then did they reverse the charges, hand me a new card and send me on my way.

The timing for that was impeccable.

is the bank also getting their fraud investigators involved?

    they should

having internal fraud investigators working with the police dramatically increases the success rate of catching fraudsters and making sure you are found rightfully not at fault

i mean obviously as a former fraud investigator i am tooting my own horn here

but they do make a difference

Find a similar notebook, rewrite all the stories and replace the one your roommate did.

Then when he/she confronts you, deny everything and watch them fall into a sinkhole of madness.

Yeah, at least it's a small amount. Less than $100. Which is odd, considering whoever withdrew could see how much I had.

It's also likely that they didn't have my card when they made the withdrawals.
