Apparently Square might be announcing some new Tactics games this weekend. Found this over at GAF:
http://ff13vids.jugem.jp/ is reporting that Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings on the DS is just the beginning of set of games from S-E called "Ivalice Alliance" and that the second title will be Final Fantasy Tactics - The Lion War on PSP and the third title will be Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - The Sealed Grimoire. It appears that the PSP FFT is a port of the original with new jobs.
Also, the blog that is saying this might be the one who had an inside scoop on Revenant Wings before it was announced, so it might be very reliable.
So a port, and a new Tactics game ("Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - The Sealed Grimoirefor", for the advance?! hopefully the DS...) might be announced this weekend at Jump Festa.
Exciting news, if true. A sequel to FFT:A. I wonder if they'll wuss out and keep the Advance title or decide to go with FFT:DS.
I got a good feeling! Seems like Square-Enix is just carpet-bombing RPG fans lately.
Seriously, just yesterday I was thinking "While I'd like DQIX on a console, it's kinda cool that it's coming to a platform I own".
Then Square has to go and be all "Not so fast, sucker!"
Next thing you know, they'll remake Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve on the PS3 or something.
Oh god that'd be awesome.
Seriously though, it's almost comical the change from 3 years ago where Square hadn't touched handhelds in the better part of a decade, to now, where they've got GBA versions of 5 of the first 6 FF titles, iterations of just about every series they own on one of three handhelds (GBA, DS or PSP), and a good number of additional titles still in development.
Fuck, there's what, Chocobo dungeon game, the new Mana game, FFT PSP, FFXII RW, DQIX, FFTA2, and probably some more I'm forgetting.
If it's such a burden getting the system, here's a recommendation thread from a while back. Disgaea, FFT, and Field Commander on the same system? I'm in SPRG heaven.

Well, DUH, it's already won the internets with DQIX. The DS could force-feed you shit from now until eternity, and it still be the greatest handheld to ever exist. It dosen't need a "Win more" button .
On the flipside, you have the PSP, which will eventually be stomped by Nintendo's mighty heel. So what do you get then? Price drops, MASSIVE price drops.
So then you'll be getting a decent system, on the cheaps, with some of the greatest games OF ALL TIME on it. It's a win-win!
Oh, and thanks SE, for forcing me to buy a DS AND a PSP....
Anyways, I'm pretty fucking excited. FFT is one of my favorite games and the chance to play it anywhere, with additional classes and a better translation has me excited. I wasn't thrilled with FFTA, but I'm hoping they'll fix the complaints I had with it. Plus a tactics game that uses the stylus (assuming it's on the DS)? Yes please.
Hasn't Sony been saying that there won't be a price drop on the PSP for a while though? I mean... come on. They're retarded. They're the people that are currently making a PS3 required in downloading PSX games to play on your PSP.
If anything, I'm worried that S-E will be pull the typical third party mistake, look at the poor sales of Lion Wars, and decide to just nix those kind of FFT games simply because they're too stupid to realize that the DS = hot shit, and the PSP = shit period (well.... not really, but relatively speaking).

Well IMO, even if the PSP price drop comes in a year, or even two years, I'm fine with that, because I'm not in any rush to own one, but just knowing that I'll eventually pick it up keeps me happy (because as a collector, there are just certain games I need).

I dunno, I think it's pretty clear at this point that Square is far from retarded. They're producing stellar games on pretty much every game system known to man, save the Xbox360, consistently expanding their various IPs into different areas, onto different systems, and generally not fucking around.
Say what you will about the "good old days" of Square/SE, but the kinds of things they've been doing lately make me think they've learned from any past mistakes, and are just becoming stronger as a developer and producer, rather than weaker.
Don't listen to the nay sayers...the PSP has great games in pretty much every genre.
And, man, the PSP is becoming THE SRPG system.
I can only think of 3 off the top of my head.
I think the DS is better suited to it, personally (just because I like using the touch screen to move units), but the more SRPGs, the merrier.
I hope SE does a remake/sequel to Bahamut Lagoon one of these days, that was a pretty fun SRPG with some interesting mechanics I haven't seen elsewhere.
Hmm I already have the original Tactics so I'm not really interested. I didn't realize there would even be a market for the game on the PSP (I'm not trying to start something by the way) but from the examples in this thread I guess there are a few other RPG type games on the PSP.
Oh well I hope the new Advance game is better than the last. The first one was way to easy.

Jesusfuckchrist why must this place turn into system wars every time a somewhat worthwhile game is announced for the PSP? If you want to rage against it, go to the Gamespot forums or something. Some of us are perfectly happy with the purchase.

Most of the comments seem to be less "PSP sux! Why not u by DS, fucktard" than "Crap! Now I want a PSP for 1 game because the rest of the library doesn't especially appeal to me."
I'm not saying there's not bias toward the DS here, but this is tame. Hell, it's downright civil.
Also, now there are two games that make me want a PSP. This and Daxter.

Ever heard of a game called Archaeic Sealed Heat? In development by Mistwalker, originally for DS but we haven't seen anything about it and there was a rumour about it having shifted to PSP. o_O
What little they've said about it points to a spiritual successor to Bahamut Lagoon.

The rhetoric has lost a lot of acidity lately. It's nice. I've shifted from being not interested in the PSP to a gradual acceptance that I need to put money away for it eventually, but I'm waiting for the floor to drop out from underneath it so I can snap it up for cheap and then get a bunch of games for, like, $20 each.
sigh. FFTA does not need sequel. FFT needs sequel. what are they thinking?
also we need fire emblem ds, stat.
add me to the list of people grumbling at having to buy psp. do not want to give sony money... need fft... need valkyrie profile... do not want to give sony money... decisions, decisions.

I'm willing to bet a sequel to Tactics advance is moon language for a sequel to Tactics. I know it's crazy. The only reason that Tactics Advance is called that instead of Final Fantasy Tactics 2 is because any excuse to put advance in the title is good enough when stuff is made for the GBA. I wouldn't be surprised if the next Tactics game is Final Fantasy Tactics Dirty Scoundrels and has little to do with either of the other ones.

I'd hate to have to buy one just for that game, but I'd do it.
So FFT makes me feel a bit better about that.
FFT with a new translation 8)
And new jobs. Absolutely can not wait for this to come out.

Jesus. It truly is a good time to enjoy rpgs.
Oh well, I guess I'll get to play that new MGS at least.
why do I have to be such a FF whore...
It'd be cool to see blue mages get in as well.
I guarantee they give it a new translation, hopefully (and presumably) by Alexander O Smith, greatest localization man ever.
FFTactics, one of my favorite games, on a portable system I do not own?
I don't want to have to buy a PSP.
And what classes could they add? The game already has a lot of classes and covers a broad range of skills and abilities.
Pirate?
Some kind of berserker class?
Gambler?

Man, I guarantee SE is *NOT* making a new FFTA on the GBA at this point...it'd just be silly. It'll be a DS title.
Gawd, I hope and pray youre right. Im hoping that "A2" has a similarly mature story line compared to FFTA.
Eh. Looks like I have a reason to get a PSP now. I just hope A2 and XII RW are equal in quality.

What a great contribution. What are you, 12?

But I guess paying $40 or whatever for it will suffice.

Here's hoping FFT: A2 is for the DS, though.
Yeah, but there's more games out for the PSP *right now* than the Wii that I'm interested in.
I think the Wii will be great in the long run, but at launch, I can never really justify a system, the selection just isn't there.
I hope I end up with enough cash after the holidays to pick up a PSP, because then I can finally play Lumines.
