[WAR] Destruction discussion-Wherein we speak of destruction
I thought it would be a good idea to get a good informative thread about Destruction not tied to a news thread or an all encompassing thread.
This may fail miserably as I am not active in the game yet, and can't keep this afloat on my own. I just saw a dearth of information.
Basically I hope destruction players come here and discuss their class mechanics, their observations, recommendations, guild shit, accomplishments etc.
Oh god this is gonna fail. I know this is a lousy first post.
Feel free to use that for a guide and info. Break the OP down by class, that sort of thing.
The White Lion info is rather out of date, though.
I'm sure the thread will devolve into bitching about Bright Wizards before long, which seems to be par for any WAR thread. From there strategies for killing them may emerge, which I imagine may be more in line with what you're looking for.
2868, I appreciate the effort, but I am heading up the vast majority of the WAR related threads. That is to say, I have been running the only WAR related thread. I don't want to poop on your thread or anything, its a good initiative effort, but many in PA play on different servers and different classes, from both sides of the conflict, so having one cumulative thread has so far not caused any major rifts or conflicts and in fact thanks to everyone being in the same thread, we all can join in the conversation, more or less.
I'm not saying shut this thread down, but I think it is premature to start branching out into other threads quite yet. But if this one manages to make it to 100, I will go ahead and 'adopt' it and start working on a nice OP for it. 8-)

Also I know that you do this, the argument I posted in your thread is, for some players, a thread that long is daunting, especially when information, the kind gleaned from players, is hard to grok, especially when they may not know what they are looking for.
I am not saying break it out class by class etc, I just would like clear discussions, that aren't all innundated with experienced players and news of the game etc. A less cluttered conversation so to speak.
But for some reasons this forum loves epic threads. I don't hate them, I just don't see why every subject must have them.
And god did I ever predict Oats post on page 66 of the very thread he linked to me.
Well, I suppose we should get this thread rolling. I recently tried my hand at making a witch elf. I raced towards the mail box, used up a 2hour long 15% bonus exp and RP item and have been making bank off of exciting as hell scenarios ever since. So far I am only like rank 4, but I'd say that is pretty damn good given I have only played like 6 scenarios.
Well, I'll get this rolling by talking a bit about my experience with the magus class at 40.
That is to say, I loved it. Right from the start, I wanted a class that gave me the freedom to attack anyone I wanted to, without being dependent on others (most of the time). This sort of attitude mixes well with the elevated position RDPS in general has in warband vs warband combat and keep sieges. Are there other classes that can offer this experience just as well, if not better? Yes (squig herder and engineer come to mind), but none of them are dark wizards on a floating disc.
So, I was able to deal good damage from afar. A lot of damage. In fact, my undergeared self was regularly putting out near the same amount of total damage as Bright Wizards and Sorceresses. Unfortunately, the devil lies in the details. Even though I dealt high amounts of total damage, it comes from the fact that 1): most of our damage comes from over-time effects and 2): a lot of it comes from AoE. This combination means that a lot of our damage is very easy to heal against.
Still, it was nice to be able to deal a fair amount of damage without relying on a healer constantly being nearby (BWs/Sorcs, I'm looking at you). Also, I never really felt at risk in large scale conflicts, since all my relevant spells had short cast times for ideal hit and run situations. Even though our AoE spells have significantly shorter range than our single-target spells, I could always just run up for a second, cast pandemonium and glean magic, and run back without suffering too much. Yeah, occasionally I got greedy and tried to sneak in a few more AoE spells and paid the price, but nothing that I couldn't have avoided.
I used my demon pet a lot, but not for damage. Instability, our AoE knockdown, is amazing, and sacrificing the pet to get it is no big deal. There were many times when I'd be blasting people from the keep walls, and a witch hunter/white lion/naked dwarf would try and attack me only to be knocked down by instability then away over the edge of the wall by warp blast.
Unfortunately, that was pretty much the same strategy I had to use for 1v1 fights. I know WAR isn't balanced around 1v1 fights, and I'm fine with that, but if I was ever caught by myself in a scenario or as a straggler, I was in deep trouble. I'd always be on the lookout for the nearest cliff/ledge because that was the only way I could deal with anyone who decided they wanted my head. Or standing in the middle of the zerg. That worked too. But not always.
I rarely ran around as a demonology specced magus, but if you were playing one and had a good group of people by you, you could wreak/enable massive amounts of devastation with warp rift on the open battlefield. Not as useful for keep sieges, and too dependent on others for my tastes, but cruelly effective.
As for gear, I decided that I would be a glass cannon for the most part and focus on crit % first and int second, with wounds as a nice bonus. Right now int doesn't improve the damage of our DoTs all that much, but its still pretty necessary so that our spells aren't always being resisted, and the upcoming patch is going to address this issue. In fact, the AoE nerf patch is fairly good news for magi because our damage is only going down by a bit, but AoE healing is also getting a kick, which is the main thing that hinders this class.
So, overall, magus: definitely not the strongest class, perhaps not even average, but useful and fun. Try one out today!
I find that the Chaos classes are not particularly the best at anything, and yet, they are excellent additions to groups for their various auras, marks, and other group related goodies. They are the utility classes.
For some reason, the only classes I find entertaining are DEs (got one of each, two 40s). I wish there was some option when it comes to mounts. The HUEG lizard gets old after a while, at least we got our guild to the rank where you can get a new mount spraypaint.
So I'm trying to figure out who I want to play as an alt when nothing's going on in my current tier... My main's a tank, and I don't really like classes that are mainly healing, so I was gonna do a DPS class. Been looking at the various DPS, and I'm wondering...
How's the Choppa? The skills make him look really fun to play. Are they fairly balanced?

Choppa get two AOE by rank 6 or something silly. Playing a Sorc alt while others were starting Choppa alt, you have no idea the extent of my jealousy upon finding this out.

Yeesh. More than one thread is not a bad thing sometimes. But yeah, as this community is committed to thread quashing, this will die.
