Well, I mean the equation for target numbers seems to be based on using a single gunnery skill, so I was just wondering.
Yeah. I ninja edited a bit to let people specialize a little bit more w/o having to level up all of their gunnery skills - the biggest gap between skills you can have is 3, rather than 2, and you pick one gunnery skill to increase.
edit: For some reason I read "normal" as "switching to 5/4". I don't know why, sorry.
Going to raise my piloting skill on account of all the kicks I missed last time, and had to make a ton of piloting rolls, I had to have learned something from that.
I just raised my BV by 21!
e: I wish all ammo sources let you take half loads, not just MG.
Yes, even though your math is off. It should be 13 - 4(raw talent) - 1(intelligence) - (3 bonus given to everyone to represent kills and performance to date) - 1 surviving two missions = 4. Not sure what this "-4 for skill" and "-1 for a kill" is coming from.

I got a kill in the last mission, and in your thing it said we all should subtract 4 from it ?

REGULAN FREE STATE NEWS SERVICE UPDATE, AUGUST 3014
(The Regulan Free State is usually referred to as the "Regulan Not So Free State" - an even more authoritarian and controlling version of its larger cousin, the principality of Regulus. A nominally pro-Marik government created after a 28th-century civil war between Marik and Regulan forces has been so subverted by Regulan intelligence that it has become a Regulan satellite. It's schizophrenic political character, however, has made it one of the most objective League news sources covering the civil war)
NOVA ROMA FALLS TO ANTON MARIK
No planet between Anton Marik and the FWL's capital of Atreus should expect peace. A battle group of the Dragoons, including Beta Regiment, the daring Black Widow Company and the assault Zeta Battalion, supported by Anton's 3rd Ducal Guard and the 4th Regulan Hussars, quickly pushed the loyalist 9th Marik Militia off-world. The Dragoons' 7th Kommando Special Operations Group quickly captured the Governor and her cabinet, forcing a surrender of the planetary militia and leaving the 9th unsupported and outnumbered. They boosted into orbit to Emris IV, an industrial jewel of the League, and another planet on Anton's agenda.
The Governor of Nova Roma, Irene Constantine, has since produced numerous holovid broadcasts urging other worlds to join "Anton's crusade."
FIGHTING CONTINUES ON EMRIS IV
The Dragoons battlegroup followed the 9th to Emris IV. The 9th has barricaded themselves in cities on New Emris, and await reinforcements. The 6th Marik Miltia, already on-planet, has reportedly engaged the Dragoons in bloody street-to-street fighting. The 6th's famed Death Watch Brigade, a rare Assault-rated battalion, has kept the Dragoons from making inroads at the StarCorps 'mech plant at Ivanova - one of the most valuable prizes contested by the Marik brothers at the moment.
The 9th, continuing their run of bad luck, is only maintaining a tenuous hold of the Holly Industries weapons planet at Urseinova, struggling against the Dragoons' Beta regiment and fearsome Zeta battalion.
FIGHTING BOGS DOWN AT SOPHIES WORLD
The Marik mercenary command the "Head Hunters" supported the federal First Atrean Dragoons, an elite, heavy-weight formation in defending Sophies' World. The Head Hunters, a medium-weight battalion, are poorly equipped to face their opposition: The rebel 3rd Marik Militia and the reserve Dragoon Delta regiment. The Atrean Dragoons have so far refused to yield, using their advantage in conventional troops to set up ambushes, using the hapless but brave Head Hunters as bait. It remains to be seen how long Janos' forces can hold out.
21st Centauri Lancers "Open to Reason"
A Marik-employed command, the Thermopolis-based "21st Centauri Lancers", an elite command with Star League roots, has recently been entertaining contract offers from both sides of the conflict. Loyalist media has condemned their behavior as "the worst sort of cynical mercenary behavior, blackmailing their employer in a time of war - what they're paid for!" However, this has not stopped Janos' representatives from entering new negotiations with the elite regiment.
ANTON'S REVOLT SPREADS TO NEW OLYMPIA
Fresh off their victory on Nova Roma, the Black Widow company, supported by a battalion of Episilon regiment held in reserve, launched a bold assault on the world of New Olympia, home of the FWL's most elite military training academies and a mere two jumps away from Anton's goal, Atreus.
While Epsilon safely landed in their Overlord on a field 60 kilometers outside the Alison Mechwarrior Institute in the Karnov District, the Black Widow Company, acting on intelligence from within the AMI, conducted a combat drop on the 1st and 4th Companies of the training academy, who were conducting a live-fire exercise. Caught away from their commanders and intimidated by the reputation, skill and power of the Dragoon command, fully 2/3rds of the 4th Company and half of the 1st Company were, dare we say it, "dragooned" into Anton's service, pledging themselves to his cause even though defeat surely entails dispossession and very likely court martial for treason.
Hoping to guarantee the academy's neutrality as the Dragoons prepare New Olympia as a springboard for the revolt's finishing blow, the loyalist trainees were allowed to quit the field, returning to base. This was an extraordinarily risky move on part of the Black Widow Company's commander, Natasha Kerensky, as the 1st and 4th were the heaviest and best trainee companies; had they combined to fight the Black Widow Company, they very likely would have been wiped out. Natasha's gamble against the nervous and inexperienced trainees paid off, as Anton's forces prepare to neutralize the aerospace and mechwarrior academies nestled in the valleys of the New Greenland mountain range, known as "The Garden of the Gods."
The Dragoons have since withdrawn to prepare their makeshift starport, leaving the Anton-loyal 18th Marik Militia on station. Fanatically loyal and well-equipped, the medium-weight command, heavy in fire-support and spotting elements, is expected to quickly secure planetary militia depots and the academy itself.
JANOS MARIK DEFEATED IN PARLIAMENT
Janos' motion to allow SAFE, the intelligence service of the FWL, expanded authorities to "root out treasonous supporters of his brother", have been defeated in parliament. The Regulan and Andurien voting blocks, citing civil liberties concerns, were instrumental in the defeat of the government proposal. Parliament continues to waver in its support of Janos against his brother. While Janos can currently call on three times the forces Anton can, numerous loyalist formations are tied down on the Lyran border, fending increased recon raids by House Steiner. Of the few formations that can be deployed, few are willing to engage the feared Wolf's Dragoons. Only one - the Marik-Stewart loyal "Juggernaut" regiment, has volunteered such duty.
This aptly named little 20-ton nuisance is my new ride for the campaign apparently and could threaten's Morkaths crown of "lol 'mech" (I miss my Chameleon already!). I am extremely apprehensive, to say the least. I hope I get a nice talent/ability to give me some survivability, the FLE-4 Flea is definitely not the scout 'mech I would've picked. In a touch of irony, the Flea is actually a rare 'mech rarely seen until the Wolf's Dragoons showed up with a bunch of them.
I kind of wish I had the book(s) and knowledge needed to run a mercenary campaign, it'd be rather neat. That said, if you want some misc. worlds I can use some misc. RPG books (mainly Traveller) I've got to roll up a few random planets of varying conditions to fight on (I offer this mainly because I notice MegaMek can actually do varied terrain(of course) weather, and even gravity). Here is a sample, with a few options left out.
World profile:
Planet: New Olympia
Sub-sector Co-ord: N/A
UWP Code: B7679XX-8 Hi
Planetary Diameter: 12,700 km (Size 7)
Gravity: 0.99G
Atmosphere: Standard (Type 6)
Average Temp: 19°C (Temperate, Level 8)
Hydrographics: 68% Water Coverage (7)
Population: Est. 6,310,000,000 (9)
Government: N/A (X)
Rival Political Faction(s): N/A
Cultural Differences: N/A
Law Level: N/A
Starport: Class B
Berthing Cost: XXXcr
Bases: N/A
Average Tech Level: 8 (Mid-21st Century)
Travel Code: Green
Trade Codes: High Population
That was done randomly, except for the world size/gravity being slightly fixed to near earth standard (what it is weighted towards anyways) and the atmosphere being rigidly set at standard breathable. Amusingly it came out very, very close to earth even with the standards, nice place to live I'd imagine, unless a rebellion starts
[edit]
(Wasn't the Black Widow company only formed at the tail end of the Marik Civil War?)

heh, I seriously doubt we would have wiped them out. We maybe could have gotten a couple of them, but most of us would have been steamrolled.
Caught away from their commanders and intimidated by the reputation, skill and power of the Dragoon command, fully 2/3rds of the 4th Company and half of the 3rd Company were, dare we say it, "dragooned" into Anton's service
I'm not in the campaign so this may be wrong, but shouldn't 3rd be 1st since it was just talking about 1st and 4th having a live fire exercise.

CAMPAIGN PHASE TWO
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SCHEDULING INFORMATION: WHAT DAYS YOU ARE AVAILABLE, AT WHAT TIMES AND IN WHAT TIME ZONE. THANKS!
In this second phase, the players have split off into two, opposing camps. They will be facing each other at times, but will not be doing so every game - opfor, provided by Varega (who is helping GM), Kazhiim - who may be helping, but has yet to get back to me, and any volunteers, will be the usual opponent.
I'm looking at running 4-8 missions to decide the fate of New Olympia; the length of the game will depend on how well everyone does. At the moment, i'm envisioning mostly lance-sized engagements to make games more managable, with the occasional larger game. We'll begin to keep track of supplies for repairs as available equipment dwindles on New Olympia.
VOLUNTEERS?
I'll take enough players to give each side a full company - that's 5 on each side. If you're not willing to commit to a regular schedule, that's fine - don't sign up for a slot, but instead volunteer to play NPC opposition. Take a look at the chargen rules in the first page of the thread.
MISSIONS
As we generate our first bunch, i'll post them here.
Loyalist Missions:
Mission 1: Air Support
Mission 2: Protect an Installation
Mission 3: Rescue Militia
Rebel Missions: Mission 1: Crowd Control Mission 2: Neutralize Local Opposition Mission 3: Force Pass into New Greenland Mountain Range
A map of the relevant continent. As you can see, the Loyalists, based out of the AMI, only have a chance at survival at moment because they're in very defensible terrain, which they know far better than the off-planet attackers. The Black Widow Company engaged the PCs at the Urban Training Grounds. The loyalists returned north, and the newly minted Ducal Fusiliers returned to the 18th Marik Militia LZ. I'd say the entire continent is about 1000 miles across at its widest point and 800 miles on the Y axis.
Kazhiim - who may be helping, but has yet to get back to me
youuuuu haven't asked me of anything
someone said you dropped out of the campaign to help me? i said creating maps for it would be very cool. if you'd like to, i'd love it. alternatively you're welcome to play in the campaign.
So what else do I need to do to finish up my pilot aside from rolling up my [strike]coffin[/strike] scout 'mech? You mentioned something about improving a skill and I assume I get a talent/ability like everyone else?
Maybe I'll get lucky with salvage, plus the Flea is a rare 'mech, so maybe I can sell/trade it for a decent amount assuming I can get my hands on better.
[edit]\/\/\/\/ That is a sensible explanation for the Flea, and gives me a valid reason to dislike it without "Scoffing" at my forefather's 'mech.

NEW ADDITIONS:
MW Galaga: This former green pilot from the Nova Roma planetary militia was taken captive by Wolf's Dragoons in the brief battle over that planet. A former assistant technician, who trained on a battlemech shared with 4 others, he broke out of captivity while Epsilon battalion cleared their LZ. Sneaking past Dragoon guards - who, inexplicably, all towered 8 feet high and had similar facial features - he was able to steal a battle ready mech, a tiny FLE-4 Flea deemed too fragile for the landing operatio. More impressively than avoiding his captors was his ability to fight off the waves of nausea that hit a mechwarrior who has not calibrated his neural signature to the mech's neurohelmet for at least 24 hours. He managed to make it to friendly lines before coating the inside of his cockpit and vomit and then passing out. He has been posted to 1st Company to make good its recent losses. To your dismay, as an astech, you know the weapons and upkeep of this Flea is up to Star League standards - of the type not seen in the Free Worlds League for centuries. How do the Dragoons maintain this level of quality? You are sure that Wolf Dragoons security are fretting over the theft.
MW Bolt Vanderhuge-Liao-Von Munchausens:
Previously in 4th Company, and Morkath's brother, he has joined his brother in 1st Company to round out the depleted formation. Bolt Vanderhuge-Liao-Von-Munchausen Senior, the original pilot of Morkath's UrbanMech, was driven from Liao space after he attacked three crowds over two weeks on Styx, with his crowd-control outfitted UrbanMech's water cannon spraying down passers-by, who he believed were plotting sedition against the Chancellor by flying kites The family's detractors were quick attribute this behavior point out the generations of inbreeding between Vanderhuges, a Styx branch of the prolific Liao family ,and the Von Munchausens. Their father fled the planet in a very slow-speed chase, and Bolt and his Thunderbolt quickly followed suit. Morkath secretly, bitterly resents Bolt for having been given the family Thunderbolt instead of the family Albatross - er, UrbanMech,
MW Basil (mech roll - it wasn't done in chanell - 1d100 = 54, +20(social status) = 74. Heavy Mech. Roll: 1d1000, +50 = 645 + 50 =695, ON1-K Orion. A real slugger of a Mech)
PM me something and i'll put it up? A retired training instructor and certified Marik-Stewart blue blood, he was seconded to the First Company after the wave of defections has raised serious concerns about the MechWarrior's loyalty. While his skills have atrophied with age, he remains a cunning and wily opponent. His ON1-K Orion is a prince of Marik mechs, a slugger effective at every range which can absorb and dish out vast amounts of punishment.
Andrew "Pantsy" Du'Mayne - a rich industrialist's kid in it for the thrill of combat. He has yet to choose a side, trying to see where he can get the most action in. Mech roll: 1d100= 67 + 20 = 87, Heavy mech. Roll 1d1000 = 445 + 50 =495, ON1-VA Orion. The ON1-VA is the close-assault variant of the Orion, trading the LRM 15 heat sinks and an additional SRM-4. It is a vicious brawler, the only mech in the inner sphere to mount the maximum armor for its chassis.

Yeah. I ninja edited a bit to let people specialize a little bit more w/o having to level up all of their gunnery skills - the biggest gap between skills you can have is 3, rather than 2, and you pick one gunnery skill to increase.

lucky, my ass.

13(base)-4(intelligence)-1(raw talent)-3(assist stuff)-1(mission bonus) =target of 4

I'm gonna upgrade my missile gunnery skill.
