Kazhiim - who may be helping, but has yet to get back to me
youuuuu haven't asked me of anything
someone said you dropped out of the campaign to help me? i said creating maps for it would be very cool. if you'd like to, i'd love it. alternatively you're welcome to play in the campaign.
yes, but you sort of have to tell me what kind of maps you want, what the objectives are, the size, etc.
Galaga I thought you went with Anton? I may have misunderstood due to all the joking about the Flea and Urbie teaming up, but I could've sworn that the antonites slightly outnumbered the janosists.
So what else do I need to do to finish up my pilot aside from rolling up my [strike]coffin[/strike] scout 'mech? You mentioned something about improving a skill and I assume I get a talent/ability like everyone else?
Maybe I'll get lucky with salvage, plus the Flea is a rare 'mech, so maybe I can sell/trade it for a decent amount assuming I can get my hands on better.
[edit]\/\/\/\/ That is a sensible explanation for the Flea, and gives me a valid reason to dislike it without "Scoffing" at my forefather's 'mech.
Yeah, you get a talent. Normally it's a random roll, but I think given your backstory taking pain resistance makes sense. It's up to you. You can add subtract one from either your piloting, or one of your gunnery skill specializations.

Haha, wiped out the Natasha's lances. Riiiiight. While the combination of training forces would certainly have had a weight advantage, the combination of the Dragoon's pilot skills and their focused deployment would've meant disaster for us. Of the three units we had in a position to fire on them, one was an Urbanmech and one was what, a Locust? Cicada? right at point-blank range. The third was a Bombardier whose missile gunnery had just been improved to average. Had we fired on the Dragoons, they could easily have destroyed the two lighter mechs and severely damaged the heavy within a single firing phase. Also, does this mean I get to "command" the Fire Lance? "Cadet Lieutenant" may not be a great rank, but it sure beats the hell out of just "cadet".
Oh, and I'll be available most evenings PST provided the games don't run later than 12 and start probably no earlier than 6-ish. Just wanted to let Kali know that in the thread. Bringing up the Wolf's Dragoons in the middle of a training match was pretty awesome, too; the civil war angle isn't completely unexpected, but I didn't at all anticipate being confronted right at the beginning of a match. Just hope our side keeps up the integrity; only reason I went with the rebels is because the Dragoon's offered to let us walk away no matter what and Janos threatened our families to try and blackmail loyalty.
The Antonites actually did outnumber the Loyalist forces with the original defection, but Kali let in a bunch of extra people as regulars and that helped balance out the numbers a lot. It'll be interesting to face off against some of our ex-classmates.
Hells yeah. Also i am OK pretty much any day after 7pm PST. Just lemme know beforehand so i can make sure i will be able to come in.
Also i dont know if you want me to do this or anything, but i changed the pilot in the Hermes II you told me to take to be a family member with my character. Should i ditch that mech all together or what? It was part of the campaign.
Cadet Captain of Sliding into Friendlies and Pushing Them in Front of the Entire Enemy Force Elimination - WHM-6R Warhammer
Never forget.
One thing I'm kinda wondering about is turning on friendly fire. I have no idea if it fundamentally screws with how the game works, but I think it might not be a bad idea to consider it. It could certainly make things more interesting if folks reconsider their political stance and want to either defect or join back up with the Loyalists. Not if it means more insanely aggravating events like mechs repeatedly falling down from running on pavement, though. Our skills are bad enough as it is without having to worry about coring a friendly heavy because he was standing too close to an enemy target.

Very good idea - this ish had been running through my head. You can't hit another mech by accident if you miss, generally. My only concern is that when FF is on, your targeting selection in the firing phase will then cycle through every friendly target, and thus people will mistakenly shoot a teammate. When mech replacement and the like is a big deal, I don't want to risk that happening - or reload every time someone screws it up. If people want to defect, i'll probably stage an event with them slipping out overnight. Also, battletech turns are usually matters of seconds - a turn is like 30 seconds or a minute or something. Maybe less? So it's hard to stage a defection mid-battle that your foe would believe - most likely the ROE would require that the defecting mech power down in combat, jump away, or otherwise disengage, because the threat of a ruse or something similar greatly outweighs the benefits of keeping them in the combat.
Someone tell me how to setup a bot match, preferably with bots on both sides, I tried a bit ago but I couldn't figure out how to give the bots 'mechs (random ones would be cool too). I need to get some Flea practice in so I can understand what this thing can handle (or more accurately, what it can't handle, the answer likely being "most things").

The trick to using a light mech is to use initiative to only maneuver and flank mechs which have already moved, so they can't get shots at you. The second trick is to maximize cover as much as possible, so even if they have shots on you they won't be very good shots. The third trick is to keep moving! Light mechs aren't super useful operating in a vacuum. They can be great to flank enemies of your lance, though.

When you click add a combat unit, there's a drop down in the bottom right that sets who gets what you select. It'll default to your name.
And in the configure game tab, you just need to select the bots or yourself and change teams as you please.
LOL, interesting revision there Kali, the family name is humongous now.
Not that I'm complaining, it makes for very amusing fluff. I feel bad for Morkath though, having taught me how to play the game and now he's my envious brother.
Alright, here's my character. It's a good thing you know Marik fluff... cause seriously, that's like the blandest faction in the IS. Nothing ever happens in the FWL, they're too busy making money and handing out civil liberties. Ya know, I actually bought all the House sourcebooks back in the day except for House Marik's. At the time, it was bothersome not having that one... but if you think about it, it's no great loss. Again, nothing ever happens with House Marik.
Speaking of House sourcebooks, has anyone gotten ahold of the new House handbooks they're putting out these days? Are they actually worth buying, or are they just inferior retreads of the House sourcebooks? Cause I don't need to spend a whole of money on BT stuff these days. Just recently in fact, I went to a local game store to see if they had any BattleTech stuff on hand. Now it's back to "BattleTech", no more "Classic BattleTech" funny business.
And uh... was completely appalled to find that they were all insanely expensive. Like, did you know about this? It was a joke, TRO 3075 was 40 bucks and TRO 3058 Upgrade was 30 bucks. How in God's name do they expect to sell any of these? I remember buying TROs for 15 and 18 bucks. How can 3075 be worth 40 bucks, especially with that ugly ass CGI cover? It's obscene.
But yea... I thought about TRO 3058 Upgrade just because it was 30 bucks and I figured I'd like to buy some new BT book, it's been a while. So I ask the store employee to cut open the plastic wrap (they wrap all the books in plastic, it's annoying) so I can flip through it and see what the Upgrade actually entails. For 30 bucks, it better have all new stuff. Well, he does it and I can see that... about 80-90% of the stuff is completely the same. The art, anyways. I wasn't entirely sure about the fluff. This isn't much of an Upgrade at all. What a crock.
Now that I think about it, what is a crock? I mean, the expression is supposed to convey that you're getting ripped off, right? Gypped, bamboozled, etc. But does anyone know what a crock actually is? It's a funny phrase.

Does anybody else write every day as every day, instead of everyday? Is there a special time to write it as one word? Is it automatically just "everyday?" Cause I feel like there are probably specific situations to have it written in two words instead of one, ya know? Am I alone in this? Is it really just everyday? Is everyday more of a colloquial writing habit then every day?
Does anyone else think colloquial is kinda a funny word? It's so bizarre to see it written, cause you hear it as "cloak wheel." And it looks completely different. You'd never think that a word sounding like cloak wheel could take on such a drastically different form on the page, right? It pops out at you.

Bio: The son of a couple mercenaries, Vengar was raised by his aunt and uncle so that his parents could keep fighting without endangering their child. He initially had no intention of becoming a mechwarrior but after his parents were killed fighting the Capellans, he dropped out of college to join the FWL military. The mercenary leader who his parents fought under was kind enough to bring back his parents' spare mech, the VL-2T Vulcan. He ended up fighting along the Capellan front, and joined Anton's rebellion.

Mech Roll For Delta Assault: 1d100 = 26 + 30 (social status) = 56, Medium Weight. 1d1000 += 980+ 100 = 1080, WVR-6M Wolverine. A pretty awesome Mech. One of the most OP mechs in the basic tech era.
Mech Roll For Omega: 1d100 + 0 = 58, Medium Weight. Mech Roll: 1d1000 = 125, -50 (social status penalty) = 75, VL-2T Vulcan. It's as mobile as a phoenix hawk, has the autocannon/2, the longest-ranged weapon in the game, and is good in a close-range fight as well.

I never was able to find the cockpit on a Wolverine. In all the artwork for it, before it disappeared from the lawsuit... never found that cockpit. All it had was that weird turret in front. *shrug*
Hmmm, WVR-6M. Oh, that's interesting. It feels kinda like an undersized Guillotine, doesn't it? That's cool, I used to play against this friend who loved to use the Guillotine. Incredibly devastating at close range with the MLs and SRM6.

Man, the best part about this situation was on Vent when Kali said "Hey Galaga want to join in on all this, make your character" and i said "give him a flea" and then he rolled the dice, and got a flea legitimately. Awesome.
I was just about to say, before this giant outage happened, that any night except for saturday is good for me.
your av/sig is starting to make me wonder how hard it would be to convert gundam mechs to megamek ruleset.
I know you can't see it, but I'm glaring at you right now. Harshly.
There actually was one Gundam series that I not only could tolerate but actually enjoy. I think it was something 8th MS? Instead of silly flippy-zoomy-ridiculo giant robots in space, pretty much the entire series took place on Earth. Unlike the rest of the Gundam stuff, the robots actually moved and took hits like they were giant walking slabs of metal. I don't even remember hating the story/dialogue, which is saying something. Those kind of Gundams would work pretty well, I think. Big, heavy-hitting, strangely-delicate pieces of equipment. They'd probably be pretty under-armed, though; even most Battletech light mechs have a decent weapon or two.
I'd like to see someone convert the Robotech fighters into Battletech; if nothing else, the sheer irony would be delightful.

This whole thread and the game's we've played make me wish an equivilent to MegaMek existed for one of FASA's other great wargames; Crimson Skies.
When is the next game btw?
I'm pretty Smith and Tinker (the guys doing the new Mechwarrior stuff) have the Crimson Skies IP. They've already mentioned something about working on a Shadowrun game so I don't think Crimson Skies is something they would've completely forgotten about. We're getting one miraculous revival this year, so how much worse are the odds of another revival and a good Shadowrun game?

I'm pretty Smith and Tinker (the guys doing the new Mechwarrior stuff) have the Crimson Skies IP. They've already mentioned something about working on a Shadowrun game so I don't think Crimson Skies is something they would've completely forgotten about. We're getting one miraculous revival this year, so how much worse are the odds of another revival and a good Shadowrun game?
Not the same. :P
I want Zeppelins, Barnstormers and Brigands (oh my!) But seriously, if there was a MegaMek equivalent of CS I'd throw down and start a campaign in a heartbeat (and use it as an excuse to finally expand my collection of CS sourcebooks).
all those are as simple as custom units/graphics.
*Ok, so the maneuver template is a bit confusing at first, but otherwise simpler
simpler than writing a graphical multiplayer user interface utilizing those rules!
