The Ares Conventions have outlawed the use of weapons of mass destruction, the destruction of vital technology such as nearly irreplaceable JumpShips which take goods, people and armies between planets, and allow for surrender. Conflicts almost seem Napoleonic in character, with the battles being those of position and maneuver. Only the most fanatic forces fight to the death - most commanders will negotiate terms for surrender if it is clear they are at a disadvantage, ransoming the freedom of their men and mechs by offering money, food, or technology to their opponent.
Too blood thirsty. A downed 'mech should be ignored (as long as it is wise enough to stay down) whether to take as salvage or just to ensure the pilot gave you the same leeway when next you met. This was the age when Mechwarriors and their Battlemechs were basically feudal Knights operating on a strange sort of chivalry, perhaps similar to the combat pilots of WWI.
To be fair, it's pretty funny to watch a three AI mechs stomping on the last of your teammates while you try to make it to the edge of the map. Then they all turn on you, miss with a half-dozen weapon systems, and one runs up and kills you one space away from fleeing with his last medium laser shot.
Also, I would kill to have some sort of supply unit for our team. Any engagement with more than a few mechs means I invariably run out of missiles and end up resorting to point-blank SRM use and face smashing. I remember somebody mentioning something about grabbing ammo from downed units, though. Can we do that it MegaMek? We downed an LRM-equipped mech or two yesterday without completely destroying them; if I'd known I could've reloaded using their unspent ammo, I probably wouldn't have ended up randomly getting exploded while keepin the Atlas busy.
Reloading is an hours-long process. So, no reloading on the field. I'll track ammo, but you shouldn't have to worry too much about access to LRMs.

Most of the problem just stems from how Battletech handles missile hits in conjunction with our green pilot stats. If you miss, well, you just sprayed 20 missiles all over the place regardless of how good your chances were to hit. When the unit only has enough ammo to fire both launcher for six rounds, every miss is a pretty serious loss of ammo.
Haha, checking on the Battletech wiki it turns out that the Bombardier is described as having the exact shortcomings that bother me. Lack of short-range firepower and a need to be constantly resupplied for long engagements. Well, kudos to the designers for getting the description on that mech just perfect.
I wonder if Wal-Mart sells Giant Robot Clubs so I don't have to scrounge around for them any more?
Just took my Victor 9B for couple test runs. Not a bad mech but there is a good reason that, with our stats, it is an 80 ton assault mech that only clocks in at 1185 BV (slightly less than a 50 ton Trebuchet with a pilot with standard stats). Got my ass kicked by a Crab but completely stomped a shadow hawk (both had pretty much exactly the same BV as the Victor)
Really it plays like a medium mech. Very respectable (for an inner sphere mech) 4/6/4 speed. But whether it does any good all comes down to the roll on that single AC20 shot. A mech with lots of smaller weapons like the Battlemaster would be much better suited to having shitty gunnery stats.
Though if we go up against light mechs this thing should get some stomp on with physical attacks if nothing else. A punch from an 80 tonner stings a bit.
Start a New Game.
Okay.
Select the Configure Game tab in the upper left.
Click the add bot button in the middle bottom.
Then go back to the first tab and add combat units, assigning them to yourself or bots with the widget on the bottom of that window. You can even have it create whole armies to assign by itself.
Maybe some kind soul with a working mic can teach ya how it all goes!
Megamek is confusing, i need to play with this a bit more i think...i cant figure out how to add a pilot or add enemies..booo im bad at this.
When you start a new game, go to the "Configure Game" tab, and from there you can add bots. Then you can assign them mechs to control in the Select Units tab by using the drop-down player list box in the mech window when you click on one.
If we are going to observe or have a chance to be opfor, is there a specific server or IP to connect to?
I just fought a match vs the computer where a Pioneer knocked down my Uziel and shot off its arm. It then turned to go hammer on my Shortbow.
The Uziel tags it in the back of the head with its PPC from the ground, knocks its on its face, and the pilot blacks out. The Shortbow goes over and starts pounding it with SRMs and the Uziel gets back on its feet, walks over, and detonates with one PPC shot to the back.
Man, me and a friend, who had never hear of Battletech, were playing on Megamek vs the AI last night. The very first thing he did was punch a building in half.
I just had an amusing mixed mech/infantry match. It all started so well. I spent about eight rounds kicking a Centurion before the pilot finally died and then went hunting for something more meaty.
Wouldn't you know it the moment I pop my Catapult's head over a hill he eats a PPC in the face from a Summoner.
Black out, thump. It went down hill from there, but I did redeem myself by jumping on top of a Black Lanner. And I blew that Summoner's arm off eventually.
By the time my bot partner cleaned up both my lrm ammo packs had exploded, my arms had been shot off, one leg was missing, a hip actuator was gone, all of my medium lasers had been destroyed, and my gyro was broken.
All glory to the concussed pilot who survived with 1 internal structure remaining in his mech's head despite all odds.
I think we should use vent. I'll be in room 6 when stuff starts happening.

You should at least download and use vent even if you don't have a mike. Being able to hear the vent people makes the game go a whole lot smoother even if you just use the Megamek chat.

This makes me want to relearn how to play the game. If you ever need a green Grasshopper pilot to throw at them, I volunteer. :P
*cheers and waves his small "Go Urbanmech" flag*
How many folks can connect at once? Do observers muck up the client?

I feel so cool.
Only YOU can start forest fires.
We're having fun, to say the least.

urbie lasts 2 rounds, i eject then proceed to last 7 more rounds shooting at him with my infantry rifle until he finally managed to kick me to death.
stuff came up.
Is that a penis joke?
Also...1 hour and 10 mins? Or is my time off.
