We had an impromptu game set up yesterday and I got vent set up in no time even without using it before. Don't even worry about the mike, you just need to be able to hear what other people are saying.
So what is this Vent password that you people are insisting on then?
:?
It is THE password.
The one we use for everything !
Also i cant get vent working I click test and hear no sounds...my mic works fine on everything else, and worked fine on vent before this...i havnt used vent in months though so i may be doing it wrong.
I think my Chameleon accounted itself well on OpFor. I burned off quite a bit of the Cicada's armor with a few ranged Large Laser shots, jump-kicked a Victor assault 'mech off a cliff dealing modest damage, and blew off a Pheonix Hawk's left arm.
Then I ran for my life since my allies were dropping like flies.
Oh, and for Morkath:
[edit] Hard to tell how well I did really, that Chameleon is an oddball, lots of lasers in all range brackets and minimal heatsinks. I spent the game at med-long range sniping with my large laser and occasionally using my mediums when something got closer. I wonder if that is how I should've played it (I was playing conservatively since I had no idea what I was doing) or if I should've got closer where I could bring my 3 small lasers and 2 machine guns to bear. But I was a 50 tonner with only modest armor up against multiple heavies and assaults, I wasn't feeling too lucky.

Nooo, urbie, look out! That tea could burn through your armor and crit your ammo!
Seriously though, we actually managed to get through a heated engagement without losing the Urbanmech. He even managed to critically damage another light mech and provide some support for a couple support mechs.
I'll breath easier when we can trade it for something a little more survivable though. What did Morkath do, anyway? Kick Zeus in the balls? An Urbanmech in an assault lance? Every fight he survives means he comes home a hero.
I lost a laser, but I should be able to change it out for a bigger one with this salvage
training sim, we didn't actually lose/gain anything.
Yeah, and we're supposedly not going to be doing any upgrading/customizing for a while, if at all. Personally, I favor the idea of only being able to trade or acquire other mechs instead of customizing what we have. It forces us to fight better instead of just pounding away at targets with easier weapons. I'm thinking that even if we do end up with some customized variants, they should be "issued" to us by the higher-ups.
As an example, if you were to modify a modern Abrams tank then it's not just a matter of welding on some equipment and hooking it up to the computer system. Creating a separate version with something like a missile rack could be done, but it would either have to be a prototype or the modifications would have to be done by hand. Both options would be very expensive and the second option would likely cause stability issues. Considering a battlemech is considerably more complicated than a modern tank, upgrading or customizing a current mech would likely be far less cost-effective than simply salvaging a better mech and trading up. We're House pilots after all, so we can't just grab whatever our contract gives us, sell what we can't use, and then just buy a new mech. On the upside, we don't have to worry about a mission going bad so we can't fix our mechs and end up starving because our machine is busted.
Plus, finishing a fight with the Urbanmech still strolling around is something I'll consider a victory every time. It's also not totally useless since that AC10 can do serious damage to light mechs and those are probably what the support mechs will have to worry about the most.

I'm going to run the next mission at This Tuesday at 7 PM PST if I get a 50% response. Will need opfor again. Am going to aim for 2-3 opfor players.
I don't think it's terribly unreasonable to imagine a mech replacing a weapon with a similar type of gun, or getting a minor engine tweak, or stripping armor to speed it up, etc.
I'm not suggesting we invent a new urbie variant with four PPCs
Well, as mentioned by Kali, League PPC production is at an all time low. If you lose PPCs in combat they'll probably be replaced by Large Lasers and maybe a couple heat sinks.

7 PM is cutting it pretty close for a weeknight. Better count me out. If I get home early might play opfor.

OK. Try - we probably won't be underway till 7:20 or whatever, knowing these things. I'm hesitant to start later because of our east coast contingent.
Sorry for all the scheduling problems, guys. Unless going even earlier in the day works better for people, i'm not sure what i can do. Why don't you all PM me with A) your times of availability and time zones, and your e-mail address? I am currently studying for the bar exam, so am very flexible and very miserable.
If people were to post their times and availablility with the following
!Available in from of them we could just search the thread and get a list. And it would keep your pm box clean .
I'd even be willing to compile the list.
As for me, I'm available every friday, no matter the hour. Every other day slightly varies. I'm in the PST time zone and work from 5-10pm on the days i work.
Goodness this thread makes me happy. And so timely on the heels of the new MechWarrior game announcement last week. (Is it too much to hope for a new turn-based Battletech game someday? Is it?)

EDIT: Got it. Let's get it on!
We killed a Victor!
I got lucky at surviving.
My AC10 arm got all the armor stripped, then never hit again thankfully.
Then I ran for my life since my allies were dropping like flies.

I did okay, mostly traded blows with the Charger, then helped blow up the Stinger.

Fun stuff tho. When are we goin' again?

I stand by the claim that the scout company arrived drunk as lords.
Even when you die horribly Battletech is fun. Perhaps especially.

Hmmm, looted Atlas...
EDIT: If most of us are ok with the tuesday schedule, I can do that. I just might have to drop out early, depending on how long the game takes.
