How the hell do I escape from the exploding command center without the Friction Reducer? I can't even get up the ladder before I'm toasted. It doesn't help that half my life is gone before I even get control of the character after the cutscene...

Eh, I didn't attempt a minimun item run myself, but if you're quick enough, you shouldn't take any more damage after you reach the ladder (have you tried the hookshoot instead of climbing up the ladder?).
The sub title for this game should be 'A Love Letter to Super Metroid' for the number of nods it has to SM (from everything from the items to the level design in certain sections). I think if it was just a bit more atmospheric and the bosses were a bit more impressive (although I haven't finished it yet so this might change) I'd be tempted to say its better than SM. Best game I've played in 10 years easy.
Yeah I needed a guide to help me get that one passkey in the scuba mask room. Thing is though, that passkey isn't that well hidden, it's just that the map says that you already got the mask there, so as Claire would say, why would anyone look there?
I was able to figure out all the hyperspeeds except for that one with the drawbridge.
I never did make a foam bridge though. hookshot and triple jump 4lyfe!

Are you watching the cutscene or skipping it? For some reason, if you skip the cutscene, you lose about a half-second of getting-the-hell-out-of-dodge time.
As for the 100% items, I needed to check the map to find two items that were hidden in save rooms. It never crossed my mind that the items I missed might have been hiding in the starred rooms. And I had to watch a video to figure out how to speed dash around the factory to break the crate in the adjoining room.

This game is great. A benchmark for what can be done with Arcade games. But it really feels like it could have used a few more weeks of polishing, on the foreground/background aiming, for example.

I wanna get that gun first since that seems to be something people were getting screwed out of for some reason. I can't find any switches anywhere though.
Am I supposed to be able to lower it now, or do I have to wait?

If you're following the blue line, it'll lead you right to the switch. If not, go through the door underneath and to the right of the drawbridge.

If you follow the blue line, you won't get screwed out of the gun. You simply need to make sure you get it before you proceed down the elevator a couple rooms to the right.
I seem to have gone too far with my Insurgent run.
Was I supposed to kill the second Tarantula before or after I got the foam gun?

Okay, so I'm stuck.
I just beat the missile guy with the shield in the outdoors. I don't yet have missiles, so it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot I can do. What the fuck do I do here?
So I just finished all of the proving grounds. I have platinum gold on almost all of the first two packs, but on the last one it's mostly bronze. The big friction dampener jump near the end was tottally killing me. Took me like six minutes to get it :P.
The rifle is way better if you're trying to get more experience, too, since it's worlds easier to get headshots. Though for just dicking around, it's hard not to get more satisfaction out of seeing Cobra flunkies ragdoll into oblivion with that shotgun.

The shotgun is good for XP too. Most shots results in a screaming death, that boosts the XP counter.

Unfortunately you can't get headshots with it, so you lose out on those XP bonuses. I still used it exclusively once I got it though :P
Another game exactly like this one, set in a big research complex, but with zombies and monsters n shit.
that'd be badass
I was thinking something else the other day: a game like this one, with a few more stealth elements (don't make them the focal point of the game, but some camera-dodging, silent-takedown-required bits would be nice) that takes place over a set of skyscrapers in a downtown area. SC has the underground base and various bits of scenery at ground level (dam, lake, docks, cabin, waterfall, cliffs, etc.). How about ziplining rooftop to rooftop, descending into different buildings (a bank, a research facility, military operations, etc.) to find new toys and progress the story. A small subway system (mine cart!) could connect them at underground level, and perhaps you'd occasionally surface at ground level to tromp through a fountain on the way to some pickup.

Effing sweet gun too..
Can't hit a damn thing with the shotty.
Just fire in the general direction of an enemy and he will bounce 30 feet through the air. Always fun to watch.
[Edit] Nevermind, I figured it out. I'm an idiot.
The one in the water underneath the tiny drawbridge?
Edit: Yay, nvm. I found the grenadable panel.
tried to pinpoint em on that item map, but I can't seem to find a spot where I'm missing something

This inertial element thingy is like the Messiah of game shotty's
Got all the gold bars so I traded it in for a gold plated one :winky:
That room is accessable on all subsequent playthroughs, right?
Yep!

There's a missile pack in a save room near the bottom right of the map. It's the save room that's in the dark, red hallway.

I can see the whole map, but I have yet to see any question marks...ANYWHERE...even on squares I know secrets are in that I haven't got yet.
Bug?

No ?'s on Insane.
I have a tiny sliver of XP needed to get to 20, I'll just grind that shit out and get the whole map! Ha ha ha, those nades can't hide forever!
Also, what does adding the fusion helmet do? I'm all glowy now
