Oh I gotcha. Thanks. I'd have the GG room open so that's a big plus. And I won't feel compelled to redo the only part of the game I didn't like (which was the scavenging for leftover items) since I've already 100%ed the game.
Now, I had been braced for an awesome metroidvaniafest, so my expectations were high. Well... this game exceeded them! The visuals are much, much better than I figured, and the pacing is just fan-freakin-tastic. I plowed through to the part with the save room in the cave (right after the room you have to flood) and I can't wait for more.
Incidentally, IGN's saying the game's on sale for $10 till the 27th. So if you haven't gotten it yet, hop to it!

I could be talked into naming this my game of the year. Anyone remotely interested that hasn't tried it should seriously consider picking it up for $10.

Seconded.
People keep saying Super Metroid > Shadow Complex.
But they're really two different games of the same type. Like Symphony of the Night is different enough to not really compete with the three either.
Definitely one of my top 5 of the year as well. I need to go back and nab those last few achievements. I got sidetracked along the way by something and never went back.
I loved this game, I wish they would make a sequel. It was easily amongst the most perfect games of the year
They are making a sequel. Two, IIRC.
It's an entirely new IP.
Wait, so they're not using the Shadow Complex IP? It'll be more like a spiritual sequel, then?
Shadow Complex is a part of a larger IP called Empire. Shadow Complex is a prequel to Empire. Orson Scott Card wrote a book for the IP titled Empire, and there was once a game announced that the book was based on. Whether or not it was canceled in favor of Shadow Complex I'm not sure.
However, a quick Google and Wiki gives me the impression that the book series is only limited to two books, when I was under the impression that it was expected to be a trilogy.
What I am sure of is that Chair has an IP called Empire that they will be supporting. I'm fairly certain that at least one more game is in the works.

I'll shoot them an eMail.
I actually just read the Wikipedia entry on this, and apparently Chair approached Card to write books based on the game. Huh. And supposedly the second book in the series, Dark Empire, was just released today.
At any rate, if Chair is supporting "Empire" then it sounds like it'll at least be in the same world.

There are some continuity errors between the two, but Empire wasn't terrible.
Bummer if they don't do another game though. They should. Sold like crazy.
Ender's Game won't be a direct sequel to Shadow Complex. It takes place in the very distant future. If you haven't read Ender's Game, you should. It's a great book.
As long as they stick to their Metroidvania style, I don't think it will matter.
Have we already discussed how Orson Scott Card is an outspoken homophobe? I'm not saying you shouldn't play this awesome game because if it, but it does amuse me so. How can such a good author have such crazy values? Well, I guess you can't have a Mormon without having him be a little nutty.
Picked this up after entertaining wee little children all day. Hella addictive, though I chose hardcore and have been tempted to go down to Normal because the combat is so irritating. I kept getting insta-blownthefuckup at the first encounter with the Devastator because it'd be all: Cutscene > Exclamation! New Objective > It has a weakness! > Missles blow you the fuck up because you're all flabbergasted by this abrupt transition.
I quit after stumbling into a room with a gatling guy and a bunch of cronies and just got wailed on while helplessly shooting at some chump in the background.
But the adventuring is extremely fun. So...yeah, no more Hardcore.
So I got this Tuesday and love the hell out of it. Quick question about the end quarter of the game...
Im at the point where my lady has left and Im gathering suit parts alone. Ive been kinda using the blue line to lead me to where to go. After getting the double boost boots, its now trying to lead me to a blue flashing exclamation point, but on the map I see other suit parts still available to grab.
Is the point where I should head, or is that THE END? Because I know you must be able to ignore the line - otherwise you'd never be able to get the 13% or less achievement - but right now I'm going for 100% and I dont want to head to the end too early.
So is there a point of no return? Or should I try getting 100% before going to this spot.

Once you get to the ! then that ltitle area blows up and one of the final weapons, the shot gun, is forever lost. You can't get it without some other of the armor stuff. Save the area with the ! for last if you're trying to 100%.
If by chance you do head to the ! early, then stay away from the lake afterwards.

I picked it up Friday with the Deal of the Week. I must say, I'm not a fan of the dev team, and haven't really cared at all about their past games...but man, this game rocks something fierce.
The story is pretty silly but the gameplay is where it's at. You can tell that Super Metroid was an influence with this game.
I'm trying for my 100% completion before attempting the Less than 13% go through.

Maybe that's because he's an absolutely shit author. Here's a fine deconstruction of Ender's Game by a better human being and a better author:
The guy wrote one book - an immature power-fantasy with some very creepy undertones but a nice core training montage - and has been feeding off the corpse ever since, regurgitating the semi-chewed fleshy bits onto new pages and wondering, if he rearranges them just so, if he can sneak some more Mormon Messages (tm).
That we live in a world where Card sells more books than Dick, Ballard, Disch, Harrison, Chiang, and Robinson combined makes me sad for humanity. On the bright side, now that I know that Card was even tangentially connetced with SC, it saves me a few MS points. Probably a pretty fun game. Shame.

Meh, I care not for his personal life or views as they don't effect me. I loved Ender's Game and some of his follow ups were pretty good too.
I mean he's no Frank Herbert, but he wasn't a total waste of an author.
And it's very loose. The game script was apparently written by Peter David, who is a damn fine comic book writer/author. Card didn't touch it at all, according to the credits. Not to mention the script is utterly, utterly apolitical. So really, it's safe to play even if Card makes you want to hurl.

The only game they've done was Undertow, which was okay.
Wasn't that the game that sold so horribly Microsoft gave it away for free as an apology for something or other?
Man, what a turnaround.
They gave it away to people as an apology for Live becomming majorly effe'd up right after COD4 was released and no one could play it, and whined alot. (Valid complaint though since the service isnt free)
I'm unsure of the reason why they chose that game to give away though, it was fairly decent.

Bah. The story sucks, but the gameplay is fantastic. I wish they would make another metroidvania style game but not a sequel.
