Let's say that I'm 30 years old and theoretically have enough money to go back to school. Well, at least enough money for tuition and living expenses. What about health insurance? Obviously I won't have a job so can't get it though my employer. I'm probably to old to get on my parents plan? Is there school plans I could get on? Could I buy it directly? I looked at buying it directly a few years back and besides it being a pain in the butt to research, it seems it was super expensive.

When I turned 23 my parents were no longer able to cover me under their insurance at college. However, I still had an additional year to finish my degree. While my school did have a plan you join, my parents went and got a private plan for me instead. It is crazy expensive and had a lot of paper work to get it worked out. I have not yet had to use it, thankfully, so I have no idea of the quality of care I would receive in an emergency or what have you.
So I would suggest poking around your schools website for their health insurance plan if they offer one. You might have better luck asking a graduate student about it or going in to the graduate student portion of the website. During my graduate orientation I received a pamphlet about the insurance program and it seemed decent enough, but I don't remember the cost associated with it. Come to think of it, I might have gotten similar documentation as an undergraduate as well.
