So thanks to this thread I re-installed a couple days ago.
I'm doing things that I didn't even know were possible before, such as:
Saving Paul's life. Seriously, when those MIB's come through the door I thought the only solution was to back out the window. I played it that way every time. Been neat having him alive. Also, I prevented Sandra from running away, we'll see how that goes later on.
I thought the endings were kind of weak, but man, what an experience.
Thoughts on some gameplay mechanics:
-I was severely disappointed in the plasma rifle. I had maxxed heavy weapons by the end, and while it could take out an unarmored guy in 1 hit, big freaking deal. MIBs, commandos, spiders, and bots took 5-10 hits and were better dispached with other methods. I can think of a lot better things to do with 8 inventory slots.
-Sniper rifle is very good. Once I'd maxxed rifles, I was able to kill MIBs in 1 shot, blow security cameras away, and shoot through most doors at 50% strength. Still no good against things like commandos and spiders, though.
-GEP gun is amazing, even with no heavy weapons skill. It can blow down just about any door and will kill anything in 1 hit, except for those advanced mechs (they take 2). I used it to open doors and take down commandos (sometimes), mechs, and spiders, and there were more than enough rockets lying around to do this.
-I put myself at trained for lockpicks and multitools, and always had 15-20 of each by the end of the game. I figure it's a waste of skill points to go past trained in these skills.
-Maxxed hacking was totally worth it.
-Dragon tooth sword is great. Whenever I'd see a group of commandos and normal troops, my strategy became activating maxxed ballistic protection and leg speed and just cutting through the whole pack.
-Maxxed regeneration (in fact, any level past 1) is ridiculously good. It makes medkits, hazmat suits, the environmental protection aug, and their training areas totally obsolete. Biocells and repair bots are plentiful.
-Didn't use the assault rifle or the shotgun much, since my inventory was already crammed with the plasma rifle, GEP gun, sniper rifle, and dragon tooth sword.
If you're having problems with commandos and whatnot, and you're using the sniper rifle...
Well, clearly you're not taking headshots. A maxed Rifles sniper shot should take down a commando every time, since a stealth pistol can do it on realistic.
Plasma rifle's a strange weapon. Commandos have energy shielding so they're likely to survive a couple direct hits, and it does only moderate damage against bots. However, it is extremely useful on packs of enemies due to splash damage and particle spread. It's a solid room-clearer with longer range than a shotgun and lower collateral damage than rockets. There's not quite enough ammo in the game to make it a mainstay weapon, and too many things that resist it anyway, but it's a good specialty weapon if you use it carefully.
Shifter adds an alt-fire mode that's just a hoot to use, as the particles will ricochet off walls and around corners.

But realistic greatly reduces the hp of both the protagonist and your enemies.
I'm not saying I'm sure if I remember what exactly it takes to take down a commando, but it's possible a commando's head actually has more hp in normal than realistic.
woah. I don't remember everything being slow mo before........ Worked fine last time I installed it. Sound and mouse look is normal but the on screen subtitles and actual movement beyond looking around is sloooooow.
fixed this via the link on page 1. Not in the first post but it's there.

Yeah, commando headshots with my maxxed sniper rifle were nonlethal
So Realistic mode makes enemies easier to kill? That's cool. I was wondering if there were any benefits to it, or if it was just the next step up after Hard.

I pretty much only play Realistic now. You end up reloading a lot more in certain areas but when you go on a killing spree it's goood times. Basically if anyone gets shot in the head, they're toast.
Sure, the NSF on Liberty Island have a good chance of headshotting you, but it's so much more rewarding to wade through the enemies when you know how risky running up and crowbarring them is.
All right, I've tried playing The Nameless Mod again. Third time now.
Where the fuck do I get 1000 credits?
I've already rescued the guy from the Goat cult and tried robbing 5 places with no luck. Do I have to kill the guy outside the bar for some money?
You don't have to kill him, you can just knock him out by karate chopping him from behind a couple times. Try speaking to the Firewall Agent at the road tunnel near the subway station, and the kid sitting downstairs in the bookstore.
So, um. How exactly do you play the Malkavian Mod? I don't know if you need to know console-fu in order to get it working. I just extracted it in the DeusEx directory and I have no idea what I have to do now.

I tried it once through gametap, and I couldn't get into it either. But reading the OP really makes me want to give it another try.
Those of you finding it hard to get into, stick with it and it'll grow on you. Its like Morrowind in that regard, I found this as awful as I did that game initially. But once I realised I could handle the many different situations in any number of ways, I was GOD!!!! Or rather, just pretty darned good at it.
Also, I'm restarting the game with the shifter mod. And fuck the GUI being tiny.
I thought the endings were kind of weak, but man, what an experience.

Clearly it's time for another lap through the game so that you can enjoy the fun that is 20mm HE assault rifle ammo, and 12ga slugs.
The former does about as much damage as a LAM, and the latter does solid damage to bots/armor/etc.

Ok. I just bought it on steam, and played through the tutorial. But I have a question. The environments look kind of blotchy? Is that normal or is my video card messed up?

Turn 32-bit colour on.

I went to great lengths to ensure that as few people died in my playthrough as possible.
The only enemies I actually killed were Anne, Gunther, the 4 commandos who stormed that club (they would have killed the patrons otherwise), and the various nonhuman enemies (bots, spiders, greasels, etc.)
I also made sure knock out every other enemy generally keep him out of harm's way. I hauled out everyone out of the supertanker before blowing it, and even carried Maggie Chow to safety as the UC crumbled, though I couldn't do the same for the guards there. I also carried Simons around for a bit
as a trophy after knocking him out.
I also did mostly the same in the sequel, which I thankfully played before the original, so that I could enjoy both. Those power-suit Templars were a right bitch though. They got the railgun treatment. I also remember killing one with a nanosword, which was funny. He asks you, "Don't you see the suit?", but I stabbed him anyway.
Running the noobz gang out of town for one of the city guards
This was an easy 500 credits at the start of TNM. I just got my subway ticket and went to the corporate district. So far it's moderately holding my interest.

Wait, why did you stab him in a "no-kill" game?
eheheh, I salute you anyway.
I'd like to mention for those of you who are fans of JC saying badass lines... to get the most bad-ass line of his, make sure you run from a certain agent that you face at a certain underwater base. If you've heard it, you no doubt no what I'm talking about. If not... just wait.
Every time I play, I choose the 'Latino' light brown-skinned JC Denton. The teal, uh, input jacks you see on the side of his head are more pronounced and he just looks cooler in the sunglasses. The albino JC scares me - looks like a vampire who fell in a pile of chalk dust.

Hmm, it appears I can get the game to run fairly well in safe mode.
