I went to great lengths to ensure that as few people died in my playthrough as possible.
The only enemies I actually killed were Anne, Gunther, the 4 commandos who stormed that club (they would have killed the patrons otherwise), and the various nonhuman enemies (bots, spiders, greasels, etc.)
I also made sure knock out every other enemy generally keep him out of harm's way. I hauled out everyone out of the supertanker before blowing it, and even carried Maggie Chow to safety as the UC crumbled, though I couldn't do the same for the guards there. I also carried Simons around for a bit
as a trophy after knocking him out.
I also did mostly the same in the sequel, which I thankfully played before the original, so that I could enjoy both. Those power-suit Templars were a right bitch though. They got the railgun treatment. I also remember killing one with a nanosword, which was funny. He asks you, "Don't you see the suit?", but I stabbed him anyway.
I hated those templars. I did most of my playthrough using melee since there was no location damage (as in headshots didn't do any extra damage) and there was no way to upgrade your damage with firearms. The templars put a big obstacle in the way of that playstyle. Even the MiBs in the first game could be "meleed" safely with the stun prod or baton.
I can't get shifter to run. I keep getting an error along the lines of "can't find ubrowser' or something. I'm following the instructions to the letter.
I had that same issue. Download the newest patch with multiplayer. v1112fm or something.

Wait, why did you stab him in a "no-kill" game?
eheheh, I salute you anyway.
You can't knock out the power-suited guys. They just explode after they've lost all their health, regardless of method. Unfortunately for them, "Eliminate all threats" was higher on my priority list than "Non-lethal takedowns only."
I did cheat a bit with the tougher human enemies. I softened them up a bit with a suppressed SMG before closing with the baton.
Both playthroughs took forever. So many quickloads...
I seem to remember being able to take them down with the prod.
Yes. That is how I did it.
Really? The armor templars?
I'm not sure if I ever kept a prod handy. I usually just baton'd everyone since one hit usually did the trick with the strength aug. It's fun punching spiders to death.
I guess I'll try that if I ever play through it again. I'm not sure if I could do it now that I know how much it failed as a Deus Ex sequel.

Yeah you can take them down with the prod.
The prod is nice because you can stun a human(oid) with a hit anywhere, then follow up for the ko.
EDIT: Sorry I thought we were talking about 1, my bad.
Well, it depends more on the strength aug, which lets you chuck props at people with enough force to do damage. It also has to weigh enough; for instance tubes of toothpaste and beer bottles didn't do anything, and I think random people on the street just bounced off without doing any real damage.
I do remember grabbing an SSC guard's corpse and using him to knock shit over. However, there may have been text file editing involved, it has been a while.
Damn, I'm really thinking about picking this up on Steam and maybe checking out That shifter mod. How good is that one mod where you play as Paul Denton?
All I have is my mac laptop, but I'll be home for most of August and can hijack/borrow my old desktop PC for this.
so i got shifter to work, thanks cooljammer. But it's not as much of an overhaul as I expected. Like the whole getting skill points for exploring and stuff...... I didn't get any for finding the hidden areas in the first map.
Sorry to be a hassle, but can someone link me all these graphics/shifter/etc mods in one post please? I don't feel like scanning through 20 pages again, thanks.
I'd do a Deus Ex LP as the fast-running high-jumping cloaking hacking explosives and swords JC Denton (which is what every one of my playthroughs eventually becomes), but the thought of how long it would be frightens me.
Liberty Island could take from 30 minutes to an hour alone.
Would people maintain interest if I had them choose what I did?

You are only allowed to put your skill points in swimming
This shifter mod is great, coupled with the high def pack its become a very fun game again even though this must be my 6 or 7th playthough. Just enough tweaks, changes and secrets to make me wanna play again.
Adds various second functions to weapons (I'm loving the sawn off shotguns triple fire mode), gives you skill points for good kills, such as well pulled off sneak attacks, very long range kills, and other random things such as flushing a toilet for a hygene bonus. I think enemies are actually tagged as unconcious now and not dead if you knock them out, enemies also carry random objects. I ended up getting a sword from the guy in the weapons bunker behind the statue on liberty island but he didn't have it when i replayed the level. Weapons and augs are tweaked, such as them doing more damage, having better laser sights, the pepper spray is actually useful, etc, plus, there are about a dozen uniqe hidden weapons in the game now. All this has made the game feel fresh and new to me since I'm re-searching every nook and cranny and don't know what's going to happen compared to my last few runthoughs. I'm really looking forward to finding lots more new stuff. And I can see myself replaying this mod again to find even more hidden stuff.
I second shifter mod. Don't really care much for graphical enhancements as the game looked fine as is. Also, it took me over 2 hours to get through Liberty Isle starting mission. I kept restarting.
I tried getting into this game when it first came out, just couldn't. Though I'd give it another go if it was remade.
Or you could just give it another go right now! That works pretty well too. About half the thread is doing it.

As mentioned probably before, I recommend The Nameless Mod, as it is a separate 15 hour plus adventure. The only thing is it plays as a semi-fanfiction for a series of Deus Ex sites but that hasn't bothered me.

So I keep running out of stuff. I've been trying to be like my pacifist brother, since they apparently frown up JC killing terrorists, but I always run out of stuff like tranquilizer darts, and find nothing useful in my inventory but a knife. I have so much money, but I can't figure out where to buy anything? Is there a set place to get stuff, or is it just always random people selling random stuff?

I think I did that. Something about Direct X.
Anyway, ended up playing some Jedi Outcast instead. Gaming on the PC just isn't the same.

If I ever try to finish DX2, I will kill everyone. Everyone.
The only way I can accept it is if I purge everyone off the face of the fucking earth.
Sometimes I Stream Games: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/italax-plays-video-games
If I was bored and knew how to do a Let's play, I would do a Let's Play Deux Ex 2.
The Cairo arcology made a really cool dodgebody court.
Wait you could actually do that!?
Well now I want to buy IW even more.
Its been years since I've played.
