Dual paladins, both Ret for levelling. At endgame, one of you could go Prot or Holy, or you could each go one of each, providing a decent levelling team. Swap roles around while levelling...one of you can throw on a sword and shield and tank an instance while the other heals. If she turns out to prefer healing, she can be Holy at endgame.
Just make sure she's playing WoW because she wants to play WoW, not because you asked her to. A good sign is if she plays it without you.
So the girlfriend was interested in getting into an MMORPG. I've played WoW off and on since it first came out (Paladin in beta, then a 68 mage while my other gf leveled a 68 priest, and I also have a ~65 warrior). I still have both those accounts information.
I didn't really want to get back into WoW. Was hoping to find a MMO a bit more UO'ish. Skill based game (by that I mean you pick your skills and level them with practice, not you pick a class and level it with xp) and player centered economy.
Unfortunately it seems that there's nothing on the market resembling that - so I'm debating getting back into WoW.
It strikes me as a bad idea to give her my ex-gf's 68 priest account because:
a) Who does that?
b) She won't know wtf she's doing.
But also because so much has changed in class balance.
What's a good class duo we could get into? Keep in mind I'm an experienced gamer who, last time I played, wrecked PvP and was main tank in several raids. Keep in mind she is the gamer equivalent of a retarded baby seal.
Just make sure she's playing WoW because she wants to play WoW, not because you asked her to. A good sign is if she plays it without you.
If she just wants to do it because you do it eventually she'll get sick of it.
I think this applies to both WoW and sex and, well, everything else.
As an aside to this, make sure she knows that it is okay for her to play without you, because you're experienced and can catch up if she pulls ahead.
That also applies to sex.

as an aside, I think I've gotten my girlfriend into Starcraft.
Which I think we can all agree is way more awesome than getting her into WoW because Starcraft is a far more gamer-type game (ie it makes you more of a nerd to be good at Starcraft ;-))

Crack about actions per minute being useful in the bedroom.
Can she beat you yet?

Um, she got Raynor killed in the third Terran mission, so I doubt it.
She seems to prefer Terran, however, whereas I play Zerg, so beyond the basics she's going to have to learn all the advanced techniques on her own since i don't know all that much about advanced Terran stuff.
we did play one team-skirmish, she held her own, but we largely won due to my 150+ hydralisks, not really her 6 siege tanks xD

I would agree. I'd rather have a girl who liked Starcraft than a girl who liked WoW.

Well she keeps bugging me to get her into some kind of MMO and it's look like either this or EveO, and even though she's an MBA too - I don't think she's going to like EveO.
Dual paladins might be fun. Based on what she's told me I think she'll enjoy healing, and I certainly have more than enough experience tanking (although I have no idea how pallys hold agro). Only problem I can see with that duo is too much overlap. It's fine in PvE, but I'm not sure if it'd make a good PvP team (either 2v2 arena or BGs).
What's the big killer for paladins? WoW class forum seems to suggest pallies only have trouble with priests and druids. Would there be a better combo for a pally than a 2nd pally?

paladins have an ability called Righteous Fury that increases threat done by all Holy damage by 90%, and all paladin threat abilities are Holy damage.

a Death Knight would make a good combination with a paladin, but that would require that you have an account with a 55 character on it to be able to make one. Your account could make one, and then she'd have to catch up levelling a paladin.
So what's another not terrible forum for WoW related stuff? Elitist Jerks is good as a reference, but are there any general purpose forums that are actually worth reading?

In pvp? Mages, Rogues, Priests, Druids will all beat paladins. Death Knights, Hunters, and Warlocks are tough, but beatable.
Sure, there's a better combo for dual paladins in arena, but for leveling? Not really. At low levels, ret healing is just as good as holy. Literally, since none of your gear has int on it anyway.
I dual boxed my paladins trick or treating
It was hours of walking
I have learned how to dual box far better with two melee classes since then
I use my brother's laptop

Aw man, I just read that the Darkmoon decks from inscription, like Nobles, have to be turned in directly to the Darkmoon Faire. That shit don't come around often!
My character with inscription is level 10 at the moment, not quite ready to make it! Just looking out in the future that I'll have the deck ready, but no faire.

I know for a fact that the lowest level deck you make with inscription summons the quest person, who then gives you a chest armor item. Pretty slick for a low level.

Yeah the low level decks (rogues, swords, etc) summon the person. The end-game crafted decks though you need to go to the faire itself. That's my potential beef here. :P
We'll see in a month or so when I get to Northrend.
Speaking of the faire, I get my Greatness card tomorrow!

Can anyone help me find on WoWhead where I could find what rank of fishing is needed to catch fish (either individually or by zone)?
For the record, yes I fucking know I could go anywhere with rank 1. I want to maximize usefulness and at least know when I can go to a zone and catch fish on regular basis instead of driftwood.

Hey so when I try to look up my newest character on the armory, which I made like three days ago, I get this message:
This character profile either not does exist, or is temporarily unavailable while the character is transferring between realms or undergoing a name change. Please ensure that the character name was entered correctly. Characters that have been deleted are no longer available on the Armory.
Is this just standard on recently made characters, or should I assume some dickwad got butthurt about the name breaking immersion on a non-RP server and Blizzard is looking into it without telling me?
Might be his level, I know characters below 10 do not get an armory page.
Yeah I know about the level 10 thing, which is why I never bothered looking until today. He shows up in searches, but trying to access his page is like BARF.
Ok so a pally duo seems to be good on the tank and heal front. It'll definitely take some learning to get used to after doing a warrior, but righteous fury seems like it'll get the job done. Healing, likewise, is fine since Pallies don't have a problem with single target healing.
Only thing I can think of is the DPS. I remember doing a Pally Duo with a friend back in beta and it.... was.... slow. Obviously a TON has changed for pallies since then - but how much has changed on the DPS front?
Paladins are completely different than even TBC. In fact, for levelling in TBC I would never have recommended levelling as ret unless you had a mage with you, because you would be drinking every single pull. Now they have unlimited mana and good damage even with subpar gear.
