Is there a feasible way to quote someone, BBCode and all, from a locked thread? A view page in BBCode then Copy/Paste? Some firefox add-on? Possibly implement the quote button in a locked thread, while the post page still has a "thread locked" icon?
This is for threads that are locked due to length, to quote posts from the locked thread into the new thread. Also not just from multi-thread topics, but also to quote lines from old threads of any topic.
This would be particularly useful so that a long, informative, complicated OP from a thread doesn't get lost when the thread gets too long, as occasionally happens.
On the user's end the only way I can think of for anyone to hack something up is to use XSLT to convert the HTML in a post back to BBCode. It'd probably be easier for Ramius (or someone) to rig up a "view BBCode" button that acts like what happens when we quick edit a post but without the editing form.

The only ways I've gotten around this is to pre-emptively copy+paste things to a document on the desktop, or to ask a mod to do the copy+paste to me in a PM (since they can still post normally in locked threads).
Hover over the little 'page' icon next to the date and time in the post header and grab the post number from that. Copy/paste the post content. Then just this (without spaces):
[ quote=author;post number]content[/quote ]

This copies the text, but for content heavy OPs this wouldn't get you the links or anything.

Ah, crap. I'd forgotten about formatting.
You can always do that manually. :P

If someone's going to have that elaborate an OP that's going to be repeated for each thread then they may as well just do what at least a few thread makers do and save the raw text and code to a file on their computer or at some other hosting.

If the OP is that complex then just PM a mod, we'll gladly send the OP to you in a PM.
Okay, maybe not gladly. There may be grumbling involved. But we'll do it.
He was kidding. SuperMod lets a mod of only one forum instead be a mod of all forums.
Here's an example of the other reason I listed for wanting to quote from locked threads. I gathered about 30 quotes to chronicle something into one post. I had to link to every quote since I couldn't quote them, and manually recreating each quote with the fonts and links and spoiler tags wuold be much more time consuming.
The end result might be better than putting a lot of quotes in a line, but having to pretty it up and catalog in the first place was more time consuming than I wanted.

There's also SuperMod forum software, and with how diluted the term "super" is I wouldn't have been surprised if someone used it for a Firefox extension :P Of course, I usually just call them global moderators.

Never heard of it.
