Alright well I guess I like BOTH of ya, but man I sometimes just hate hanging out with people.
For instance I was just at a party with a bunch of people and I was talking with some girls that I thought were okay. Than we started talking about music and holy shit, my faith in humanity is lost.
Of course it is stupid to dislike poelple for ther musical tastes, but I hate them anyway.
This morning I am in a good mood. My knees are nearly healed and I'm back riding my bike to work - which is a good way to start the day.
I am in a dilemma though... I want to buy an iPhone, like, incredibly bad. I'm imagining all those crazy applications and how they would clearly improve my life ten-fold. I'm already on another phone contract so I know I should just wait until it expires but I am rash and impulsive when it comes to stuff like this...
I'm trying to tell myself if I finish my new website build, then I'll treat myself to the iPhone.
Part of me just plans to just head into town at lunchtime and buy one.
Technology!
I can keep my semi creative graphic design job that pays shit and has terrible hours
-or-
I can go to work at a fucking call center for AT&T and make two dollars more an hour but have normal hours.
The upside is the $ and sleep, the downside is getting a better job is easier where I am currently at.

So what do guys think...wait it out or sell out?
Edit: another upside, iphone discount?
Are you considered a good employee at your design job? Is the company itself worth working for, forward thinking, wanting to invest in its employees?
If it were me, I would have a chat with your manager and either,
1) present a list of things you are doing well at with the job, areas where you have clearly done work outside of your role, client testimonials, targets met, examples of a willingness to deliver to tight deadlines/work overtime, that sort of thing; and basically ask for a raise.
2) if you can'y really justify why you should get a raise, and the pay is just crappy, then talk to your manager about expanding and developing your role, with a view to being promoted to a better paid position. Set some goals and suggest that you would like to review them in 3 months/6 months/whatever with a view to gaining promotion and/or a payrise if you achieve them.
One of the best things I've ever learned is to not expect to have your hard work always recognised, and never to expect to get given a pay rise without asking for one. You have to publicise yourself, and you have to show initiative in doing more and therefore getting paid more.
If the company you work for is not interested in building capacity and investing in their staff, then you know it's not a company worth investing your time and skills into.
From a personal point of view, I would not do call centre work for any amount of money - but that's just me. :P If it pays better and (more importantly) gives you more time to spend with your family and more time to spend on your own work then those are certainly benefits!
Grenn, I am stepping in what you are dropping. But there are some things...
I would say I a good employee because I do many jobs for them: on-air graphics, sign graphics for the sales deparment and news department, and set design building desks and backgrounds. I was only hired for the on-air graphics part of my job.
Here is the rub, I work for a TV station that is part of a larger media group. Since the market downturn a lot of media groups got hit hard. So as of last year we are in a raise freeze, hiring freeze, ect. They aren't bullshiting us either, no one got a raise last year, not even anchors. So the jist of what they are doing is milking everyone as must as possible but not firing anyone.
I don't know...I really don't think a call center is really a job for me, but shit is rough right now.
Edit: Yea, I know the company I work for isn't the place for me in the longterm, now it's just a matter of leaving quickly to a shitty job I KNOW is there, or wait for a good job that might never come. (graphic design jobs are hard to find here: small town, two colleges)

I hear you there, mate - unemployment is currently really bad over here. I have a few of friends who all had media related jobs (script editor, newspaper journo, and radio journo respectively) and they all recently lost their jobs and are currently out of work.
If your job is secure and you can weather the storm, then at the very least you can ask for a raise when things pick up. Unless you are severly worried about potentially losing your job it sounds like long term prospects are better where you are.

Good luck with it all though, man, sincerely.
Thanks man. Things could really be worse for sure, thanks for the thoughts. Media jobs are fucking strange.
How do I register a copyright for an unpublished work? I've been working on Charlie the Zombie for like 4 years now but I don't plan on publishing it for like another 4 years. I'd really rather not have some loser like this make some stupid website based on that name before I get to publish it.
My wife sent me a text last night via AIM that said, "Charlie is crying and bleeding and I don't know what to do"
I guess she took him outside to play fetch and somewhere he snagged one of his claws and it tore it off, she took him to the vet and $179 later... he's fine. I'm starting to think he needs pet insurance.

In her defense, the cat did pull a knife on her.
And in other news, I'm finally resorting to temp work. My unemployment is running out and I've exhausted every available option as far as getting some engineering work.
Max- is the domain name open? A good way to get a jumpstart on no one considering the name is to go ahead and buy the domain name. It's only like $10 a year.

I bought 2 books yesterday... and I'm already in the middle of one.
That's not what I want to hear!!
kay.
Argh... is that the 16 or 32 GB... or both?? When I popped in last week, they had plenty of 32s but no 16s.
This might actually make my attempt at being patient somewhat easier. o_O

The other evening my wife punched one of my cat's teeth out...
@Maximas: Do you know if the damage is permanent, or will the claw grow back?
@Grenn: There must have been a reason...? [tiny]Cat fight?[/tiny]
EDIT: Gah, no more hearing about animals in pain, I'm going to bed. Today was a busy day, and tomorrow's going to be busier.
Hahahaha! Did she get into a bar fight with the cat?

I wasn't announcing the movie, son. I actually went to Flynn's Arcade! And rocked out on some Space Paranoids!
Oh yeah, and there was this little thing there too:
mars please tell me you stole that
I am filled with anger and jealousy. My eyes are green?
I think it's lost in the bowels of the net Bel
it was just as much your responsibility
no you know what
this is all your fault
