Constructing a home server. Now with VPN!

I recently decided to build a home server. It's a shitty Compaq. 2.5ghz Celeron with 640mb of ram. It is likely just a placeholder until I decide what I'm doing with it. Right now it's just a file dump site. It's currently got Server 2008 SP2 on it. Runs pretty fine; is currently getting the job done; likely will not perform when I

Which brings me to the real meat of this thread, where I submit myself to opinions. I decided that I want to open it up to the "public" (myself at other locations, a select few friends) and determined that a VPN was the best way to go about it.

I'm deciding between OpenVPN (I think I end up buying licenses for more than 2 clients, haven't really taken a good look at it) or Hamachi. I'm more inclined to use OpenVPN, since Hamachi contacts a middle-man hamachi server using a login system before creating the tunnel. I'd rather just keep it server-client with all control resting on me.

Anyone have any tips or experience in creating a home VPN?

    OpenVPN - client licenses? what?

Server 2008 has built in VPN service, by the way. Under RAS. This may be limited by your CALs, though I'm not sure.

Hamachi is by far the easiest option, though.

OpenVPN apparently only gives you two concurrent user keys per Access Server, so in the event I have more than two people connecting at any given time, it's another $5 per concurrent user.

Or I might be misunderstanding this one.

How weird! You'd think OpenVPN would be 100% free, given that it is Free/Open Source software.

I say try out the Windows Server VPN and see how it works for you. I think you get 5 CALs by default, assuming it relies on that.
