You know you love Disney's animated films. Right from the moment when you met them, saw them, you said they're gorgeous and sang along to all the songs.

I am hard pressed to decide whether I love the music or the animation better, so I'll just say both and smile.

So tell me your favorite disney songs and movies duders. Let's all sing the songs together, and giggle about how 'sex' is totally spelled out in the lion king dust.

lionkingsex.jpg

I really love the Hunchback of Notre Dame's soundtrack, remember how it was controversial that prayer was used in one of the songs? So silly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwnh-sxaBwk

but if pressed to name a favorite disney film, I would probably have to say Tarzan, followed closely by Beauty and the beast.

Tarzan/Belle fanfic should be forthcoming soon.

Most memorable for me is probably "Be Prepared" from the Lion King. We'd just gotten back from Disneyland when I was 7, and we'd bought the sound track while there. My brother and I bounced around on my parents' bed and sang along to that song over and over.

Tarzan is quality animation put together fairly lovingly with a much higher attention to detail than pretty much most Disney movies since Beauty and the Beast.

Personally, Beauty and the Beast is probably my favourite, for a variety of reasons. The animation is excellent; the voices and music excellently arranged; and it was one of the last Disney movies made where they stopped worrying about shoehorning celebrity composers and voices into obvious marketing-friendly roles that actually just weren't all that good.

Seriously, Alan Menkin is a goddamn genius, and there's a reason he has more Oscars than John Williams. And, guess what? Professional singers are often better singers than this weeks child-actor de jure.

    It's SFX!

Also, I really need to see more Disney animated movies, I've only seen a few. My parents just kind of skipped the whole "kid movie" thing when I was a kid and after seeing some of these great animated films in recent years, I'm kinda hating them for it.

That said, The Lion King is the best I've seen so far, Aladdin right after it, though I really love Beauty and the Beast. I want to see Mulan but just haven't gotten around to it.

I saw Tarzan in German, and didn't really understand most of it, but I know that it had a pretty gruesome implied death scene for a children's film.

Oh also, my favorite song from a Disney film as of right now is (cliche choice ahead!) "A Whole New World", but really only in the context of the film; I hear it on the radio done by different singers and don't really dig it.

And the goose-stepping hyenas during "Be Prepared"...such a great touch.

My favourite is a tie between Jungle-Book and Beauty and the beast. Even though B&B used to piss me off even as a kid because I thought that being punished for refusing a creepy old woman entry into your home was a bit much, I mean surely there were murderers and rapists out there more in need of some ironic punishment?
