So, I'm preeetty bad at fighting games and am currently doing Ryu's 5th trial, 3rd part, where I have to combo a j.hp, hk, shinku hadoken. I can get j.hp+hk but for the life of me I cannot get any kind of follow-up after that. Half the time I can't even follow up a HK to the air with the super and end up doing a shoryuken instead. HOW DO I DO THIS OH MY GOD I CANNOT DO THIS?
I'm on PC and use keyboard.
I would go into training mode and mess around into just getting the combo of the hk into super, the timing is such you want to get your two qcf's going instantly after you hit the kick button. I'm on PC and use keyboard as well and it wasn't too hard, just mess around in training getting the hk -> super combo, then just tack j.hp onto it.
The way I did it was to start by putting the enemy in the corner. Jump in with a deep FP, hit the ground and do a FB motion and end with FK, as soon as it hits do another FB motion with any punch. The inputs would be like this: jump FP, land, QCF+FK, QCF+any punch. Here is a video showing how it's done (skip to the 2:50 mark):
Ok, something weird happened, I got home drunk yesterday and for some reason decided to play some SF4, first I go online and play some Sagat in player matches.
Even though I was just mashing my buttons and flailing around with the stick I did pretty damn awesome, which isn't really saying much when you are playing with Sagat (apparantly he cancel just about anything into Tiger Knee/Uppercut, which was all I was doing seeing as I was to drunk to actually think of what to do).
Anyway, I realised this was why I hated Sagat so instead I went into the trials and completed all normal challenges and the first 2 hard ones with Abel, and essentially never had to try more than 3 times on any combo, I was on fire. So as I started playing some again today I went back to El Fuerte, and continued to kick ass, dropping tortillas on jump-ins like nobodys business.
I got to 3 championship finals in a row(and won a few ranked matches in between), in which I got stomped by Sagat players in every single one.
Moral of the story? Drinking helps and Fuck Sagat.

The one time I tried to install a costum costume it made the game crash every time time that character was selected. People on another site told me that was because the filename didn't match the color number set in the file, but I hadn't changed the filename at all.

Custom skin you mean?
Well.. what you did is correct.. You find the normal file, remove it, and stick the new one in with the same file name.
It only corresponds to a particular color though.
So for example you may have replaced color 3, so the new custom skin will only show up for "color 3."
I have 3 Cammy custom skins installed right now. Jill Valentine, Morrigan, and my favorite Hibana from Nightshade. All I had to do to make it work is what I described above.
I replaced the identical one in the folder, no change.

This game sure isnt made to make you have fun, played about 20 matches and everyone was against people with roughly 10 times my amount BPs, even more frustrating when half of them won by the smallest possible margin only because I messed up my Ultra input when they jumped in giving me free shot at the win, though this one Sagat with only 7x my BPs apparently didnt even know to jump away from my Ultra that I happend to throw out at random in a heated moment.
Eh, after spending tons of time in Ranking matches, I found myself having a whole lot more fun in Championship mode. Mostly because matching isn't completely random in it. Also there's something exciting about the silly little "tournament" style setup of championship.

Alternatively, link me to the skin, I can try it on my PC to see if it works on mine. If it doesnt we know it's a bad skin. If it does we know that something is wrong on your end.

Here's what I did:
1. Downloaded the skin.
2. Extracted to a temp directory
3. Copied the original "FLN_01_08.col.emz" from my directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\STREETFIGHTERIV\Battle\Chara\FLN" to the desktop for backup.
4. Copied the extracted new skin from the temp directory and pasted it into the "C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\STREETFIGHTERIV\Battle\Chara\FLN" directory
5. It asked me if I wanted to Overwrite the file - I said Yes.
6. Booted up SFIV, went to training, Picked Fei Long
7. Chose Color #8 since that's the color that this skin over writes.
8. Training loaded, and that screenshot is what came up.
Renamed the original file, and moved it to a temp folder on my desktop
Moved the new file into the /chara/fln directory
And nothing.
What if I don;t have color 08? Can I rename the file so it's the default, say 01?
