The Official Thread for Street Fighter IV on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.

CHARACTERS
250px-Sf4-ryu_big.jpg
Ryu: Well...he's Ryu. The most iconic fighting character there is returns and still knows how to throw a Hadouken.
250px-Sf4-ken_big.jpg
Ken: Ryu's color swap and training partner might share moves with Ryu but he's more likely to send you flying with a flaming Shoryuken, overused online.
250px-Sf4-chun-li.jpg
Chun-Li: She might be a woman but she can still kick your ass with her trademark thunder thighs.
250px-Sf4-guile.jpg
Guile: Possibly the most patriotic man alive, Guile Sonic Booms everyone until they become family men.
250px-Sf4-honda.jpg
E. Honda: A sumo wrestler who can fly like a bullet which makes perfect sense in any sort of context.
250px-Sf4-dhalsim.jpg
Dhalsim: An Indian mystic who shows people enlightenment by punching them with stretchy arms and setting them on fire.
250px-Sf4-zangief.jpg
Zangief: The 'Gief' is a muscle bound stereotypical Russian wrestler who Spinning Pile Drives bears and anyone else he can grab on a regular basis for Mother Russia.
250px-Sf4-blanka.jpg
Blanka: A Brazilian who grew up in the rain forest turning his skin green and making him able to expel electricity. Guess scientists haven't discovered those plants yet.
250px-Sf4-bison.jpg
M. Bison(Dictator): A new Street Fighter may be the most important day of your life, but for him it's Tuesday.
250px-Sf4-sagat.jpg
Sagat: The Muay Thai fighter still wants revenges for the scar on his chest and will use any TIGER TIGER TIGER related powers to do it.
250px-Sf4-vega.jpg
Vega(Claw): He might be a narcissistic pretty boy but his claw and wall jumping shenanigans are quite deadly.
250px-Sf4-balrog.jpg
Balrog(Boxer): An American boxer with no connection whatsoever with Mike Tyson who enjoys headbutting people in the face and fight money.
250px-Sf4-crimson-viper.jpg
Crimson Viper: An American spy who uses flame boots and thunder gloves to even the match up.
250px-Sf4-abel.jpg
Abel: A French mixed martial artist with amnesia looking to defeat the remaining members of Shadaloo.
250px-Sf4-el-fuerte.jpg
El Fuerte: Street Fighter jumps on the luchador bandwagon with a lucha libre fighter who cooks as a hobby.
250px-Rufus-Street_Fighter_IV-fixed.jpg
Rufus: A big fatty America taking full use of animation physics. He has quite a overconfident view of himself and wishes to defeat Ken to become America's greatest fighter.
250px-AkumaSF4.jpg
Akuma: He might be balanced but this demon is just as scary as ever.
250px-Gouken1.jpg
Gouken: The trainer of Ryu and Ken and the closest your ever going to get to having Sheng Long.
270px-Sf4-Cammy2.jpg
Cammy: Every 12 year old boy's favorite character who was doing ass shots before they where cool. Is in the game thanks to a online Capcom poll.
250px-SakuraSFIV.jpg
Sakura: A high school outfit wearing Ryu fan girl who seems to love ripping off his moves.
250px-Sf4-dan.jpg
Dan: Street Fighter's joke character. He intentionally sucks but everyone loves him.
250px-Sf4-fei-long.jpg
Fei-Long: He's pretty much a Bruce Lee that can set his legs on fire. Which is just fine with most people.
250px-Sf4-rose.jpg
Rose: An Italian fortune teller who shares Bison's soul or something. She has a pretty scarf which functions as a weapon and a sham-wow.
250px-Sf4-gen.jpg
Gen: The only Street Fighter with multiple fighting styles, Gen is intended for Street Fighter veterans who like beating people up with old Chinese men.
250px-Se01.jpg
Seth: The boss character of SF4. He uses the moves of other characters and his belly serves as a vacuum for the oddest Ultra Combo there is. Is the cheapest bastard around.

Unlocking Characters
(all information taken from the Street Fighter Wiki)

Cammy Beat Arcade Mode with C. Viper.
Fei Long Beat Arcade Mode with Abel.
Gen Beat Arcade Mode with Chun-Li.
Rose Beat Arcade Mode with M. Bison.
Sakura Beat Arcade Mode with Ryu.
Dan Beat Arcade Mode with Sakura.
Akuma (see below).
Gouken (see below).
Seth Beat Arcade Mode with everyone.

To unlock Akuma as a playable character:
1. Unlock Cammy, Fei Long, Dan, Sakura, Rose, and Gen.
2. Pick a character you have already used to beat Arcade Mode.
3. Win all your matches without continuing and without losing any rounds before fighting with Seth.
4. You need to get at least one "perfect" win in a round, and more than one depending on how many rounds per match you are playing.
- 1 round match: 1 perfect round or more
- 3 round match: 2 perfect rounds or more
- 5 round match: 3 perfect rounds or more
- 7 round match: 4 perfect rounds or more
5. If you meet these conditions, Akuma will appear. Defeat him to unlock Akuma as a selectable character.

To unlock Gouken as a playable character:
1. Complete Arcade Mode playing as Akuma and watch (not necessary to watch everything) an ending.
2. Then, unlock Gouken as an opponent, and defeat him.
Necessary conditions to unlock Gouken as an opponent:
-Play with any characters with which you watched the ending once (so play using a character you have already beaten the game with)
-Do not continue at all.
-Do not lose at all. Not even one round (easier if you only play 1-round matches)
-Achieve certain number (or more) of "Perfect" rounds. The number of Perfect Win you need to achieve are:
If you play on:
1 round match: 1 time or more
3 round match: 2 times or more
5 round match: 3 times or more
7 round match: 4 times or more
-Achieve a certain number (or more) of Super Combo -OR- Ultra Combo Finishes. Super and Ultra finishes both count toward this number. The number of super/ultra finishes you need to achieve are:
If you play on
1 round match: 3 times or more
3 round match: 5 times or more
5 round match: 7 times or more
7 round match: 9 times or more
-Achieve certain number (or more) of First Attack (this means you must score the first strike in a match--the screen gives you the "First Attack" message, and you can mostly do this without even noticing):
If you play on
1 round match: 5 first attacks or more
3 round match: 10 first attacks or more
5 round match: 15 first attacks or more
7 round match: 20 first attacks or more
-Then Gouken will appear. Kick his butt to unlock him!

Alternate costumes
Each character has a different costume they can wear. The costumes are paid DLC and can be purchased in preset packs of five or in a bundle. Each pack individually is 320 MS points (or $4 each). The all-in-one pack is 1000 MS points (or $12). The costumes are for appearances only and don't grant the character any special attributes.

Character Stats
Each character is different in their moves, speed, and sizes but did you know that they also have different health, stun, dash, and jump values? The biggest difference between the characters is their health levels. The bigger, slower characters (Zangief, Rufus, etc) take more damage to KO while the smaller, faster characters (Chun Li, El Fuerte) take less damage to KO. The two powerful boss characters, Seth and Akuma, take a lot more damage than the rest of the cast due to their offensive abilities and options they have available to them. For a complete breakdown of the characters statistical differences, check out this link:

Online Play
Street Fighter IV has a few online modes that allow players from around the world to challenge each other in head to head battles. Here are some things you should know before jumping online:

-There are a multitude of skill levels for players online. You will run into new players and guys who have been playing Street Fighter for twenty years. Online is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.
-You can play either Ranked Matches, Player Matches, or enter Championship Mode.
-Ranked matches have you facing off against another opponent for the chance to earn Battle Points (BP). Your BP’s will go up or down depending on whether you win or lose. The greater the BP levels are between the two players the greater or lesser the effect will be. If player levels are fairly close (say within 100 or so points) the gain/loss is around 30 or so points. BP levels are used as an approximation of skill, but some players have artificially raised their BP levels, so take any BP value with a grain of salt.
-Player matches are generally used to play people when statistics aren’t a concern. A lot of good players can be found this way, probably more so than in Ranked mode. The biggest advantage of Player matches are that when a game is over, you go back to a lobby and can play the opponent again. This is the best way to play games with friends or fellow Penny Arcade people.
-Championship mode is a free DLC that was added after launch. This mode is for people who want to really step up their game and challenge better players. In this mode, you start by entering into the lowest level of tournaments and earn Grade Points (GP) to advance to higher level tournaments. As you earn GPs your rank will rise from E all the way up to A. After that, you will move up to the next tournament level and start back down at E again. This continues through four levels of tournaments. Most PA players here fall in the G3 or G2 rankings. You can earn GPs by defeating other players in tournaments. When you defeat someone, you earn their current GPs in the form of Championship Points (CP). When you finish the tournament, your earned CPs are converted into GPs and added to your total.

For an extremely detailed breakdown of how Championship mode works, visit this thread at shoryuken.com. Credit goes to our very own forum poster Aumni for compiling all the data.

PC 'Mod'ness!
The PC version of Street Fighter IV has already begun being hacked and modded for humorous results. Check out some of these videos to see move sets being swapped between characters or completely different character models being created. Insane stuff.

The best moveset swap.

This is a close contender though.

And some of them manage to not warp the face too badly.

Penny Arcade Tournaments
I have been running tournaments for the members of the PA forums here for a little while now. These tournaments are all meant for casual, friendly matches with bragging rights and an occasional belt image going to the winner. The tournaments come in a variety of flavors from single elimination, team matches, a suicide tournament (requires you to win with more than one character), and our very own Street Fighter League.

If you are interested in getting involved, take a look at the official thread found here.

Controllers
The MadCatz Fightpad ($40)
ps3-sfiv-fightpad-chun-li-490.jpg
Based off the Sega Saturn controller it features a nice floatly D-Pad and a 6 face button set-up along with turbo options. Great for those who want to be good but don't want to break the bank either.

The Fight Stick (PS3 $70, 360 $80)
51CsxvLuibL._AA280_.jpg
The standard fight stick featuring a eight button layout with start and back on the side. Has turbo options as well as a disabler so you don't accidentally hit the home button during a fight. Is easily customizable and a fine entry stick.

The Tournament Fight Stick ($150)
41Hc2-YUzRL._AA280_.jpg
This super fancy one is literally all the parts straight from the original arcade cabinet at a hefty 6lbs. It has all the features from the standard plus extras including being able to screw it right to a table.

As an owner of both the Fightpad and the Tournament stick, I can completely vouch for how rock solid they are to use. Your game will get a noticeable jump in performance from the ease of pulling off moves with controllers. If you’re serious about getting better and competing in Street Fighter IV, I’d highly recommend picking up whichever controller your budget will allow for.

You can always make your own controller or purchase a custom stick. Check out Shoryuken’s tech forum for more information.

Did you know?
-360 motions done by doing f,df,d,db,b,ub,u+p/k or b,db,d,df,f,uf,u+p/k instead of an actual 360 degree motion.
-Any half-circle motions (f, df, d, db, b for example) can be done by pressing df, b+p/k. This makes doing moves like Honda's Ochio throw (df, b+p) or Chun Li's Hazan Shu (df, b+k) much easier to pull off.
-Any dragon punch motion (f, d, df+p/k) can be done by pressing df, df+p/k. Use this to pull off backwards teleports with M.Bison and go right into his ultra combo.
-Going to ub instead of up on d/u charge moves allows you to retain your charge, which is useful for comboing into EX moves/Supers/Ultras.
-Reversals attacks can break armored moves.
-Charges moves done b,f,b+p/k to allow you to charge faster.
-Multi tap moves activate on fifth hit (Chun Li’s lightning leg or E.Honda’s hundred hand are good examples). You can use this to activate a certain strength of the move by making the level you want the fifth button press.
-More hits does not always mean more damage. There is a damage scaling feature in SF4 that makes each additional hit in a combo do less and less damage. Say an Super fireball from Ryu does 1/3 off your health normally. If he tacks the same super onto the end of a long combo, the damage reduction will cause it to do a lot less. Because of this, a simple 3 hit combo could do the same damage as a flashier 20+ hit combo.
-When using a Focus attack or a move with armor, you can absorb one hit and not be stunned. The damage you receive from the move will be represented as gray on your health bar and will recover over time as long as you don’t get hit.
-Ultra combos do more damage depending on how full the revenge meter is.
-The revenge meter only fills up when you take damage. You can use the Focus Attack to absorb fireballs to fill up the meter, just make sure to not get hit while your life restores.
-Cammy’s holligan throw can be avoided by simply ducking.
-Cammy can instant air cannon strike by doing d,db,b,uf+k or d,db,b,ub/u/uf+2k for EX-Cannon strike.
-Dan is the only character in the game who can cancel his Super into his Ultra.
-Dhalsim can instant air teleport f,d,df,f,uf+3P or 3K (reverse motions for backwards teleport)
-Abel’s command grab beats throws, but is vulnerable to attacks. His EX-command grab beats attacks (including some get up moves), but is vulnerable to other throws.
-Blanka can hop forward by pressing df+KKK, then unleash the anti-air Blanka ball by pressing uf, u, or ub+k.
-Blanka’s Ultra has to be blocked low, high, then either high or low.
-Blanka’s Ultra vulnerable on the way down after the initial leap up.
-Blanka can control himself left and right during his EX-Rainbow ball.
-Akuma’s Raging Demon last input can be combined into f/b+lk+fp.
-Guile/Vega Super/Ultra can be done by doing db,f,df,d,db,b,ub+K (KKK).
-M.Bison can do a special move or ultra out of a teleport by doing it this way: b,db,b,db+3k/3p. Doing the teleport this way maintains his charge.
-Vega can throw away his claw by doing f,d,df+any p. Doing this motion with 2 punches will cause him to throw off his mask and lose 2 bars of EX meter. This is generally only done to show off.
-If Vega loses his mask, he takes more damage until he recovers it. On the plus side, he does more damage while it’s off.

I will hopefully finish building my stick tomorrow, so in celebration I've ordered Street Fighter IV. How apt a new thread is starting now.

Essentially all of my time in the Street Fighter universe has been spent in Street Fighter Alpha 2. How does IV compare? People keep saying it's a lot like II, but that doesn't really help me...

I played and loved me some Alpha 2. The thing about Alpha 2 was that it was very similar to SF2. Therefore, SF4 should feel very similar to A2. Make sense? :P

Once you get used to dashing, Focus Attacks, ex moves, and only having one super/ultra attack, everything else should fall into place. Make sure to look over the "Did you know" section of my first post to learn some interesting things about SF4 to help ease your transition.

Are you on the PC, 360, or PS3? Either way, welcome to SF4.

I've already unlocked almost everything on my 360 and dread to play single player ever again. Does anyone know of a quick way to unlock everything for PC? I don't care about the achievements, really. I just don't want to spend my (ample) time in the boring single player.

EDIT: Found it! Works both online and offline flawlessly (even gives you a couple achievements lawl).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6km8-Vt59lc

CheatEngine (necessary to run the unlocks): http://www.cheatengine.org
    Unlocks: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X5WY1SM5

    To unlock everything via cheatengine:
Install CheatEngine, run SFIV, go into your profile, minimize SFIV, open cheatengine, in cheatengine open process (top left-most button) 'StreetfighterIV.exe', in cheatengine open (ctrl+o or the button to the right of the one you clicked before) the cheat table 'SFIV Unlock Everything' that you downloaded in the megaupload zip above, in the table of addresses and values at the bottom of cheatengine hit ctrl+a to select all, right click -> change record -> value -> set it to 1, now go into SFIV and change a sound option or something (within your profile) so that it displays "Now Saving..", Now you're all done! Enjoy everything being unlocked.

If that's confusing, follow along with the video. These are the exact same instructions, merely typed out.

EDIT 2: http://www.capcom.co.jp/sf4/download.html for some neato Capcom SFIV desktop wallpapers.

That just sounds plain weird. I haven't really had any problems other than an inability to do double quarter circles with a controller. I find most of the supers and ultras to be much easier to do with the keyboard, but I still prefer using a controller.

Block and Sweep. He's much easier than a player Seth. I fought one earlier and every time I made a mistake it was a 20+ hit combo to stun, another large combo to KO.

FINALLY got out of G3 hell tonight. Took a while because I had been searching for a stick (Canada gets no love :()and couldn't jive with the pad. I used to be a analog-stick twirling Gief, but I think I've settled on Boxer as my main after giving him a go the past week. Didn't used to care for charge characters but it's different with a square-gate stick. Runaway Akuma's who were the bane of my existance I now eat for breakfast (even beat one in the final that took me over the top) I'm getting my ass kicked in G2 so far but it's SO much more fun. :D

For the proud few on PSN, if you don't mind playing a scrubby Boxer/Gief/Honda add me: P-bass

Viper's hard trial 3 is driving me nuts. I get the idea of the final motion, but I cannot get it down fast enough - I end up canceling an ex seismo most of the time, or jumping in the air instead.

I've had the opposite experience. I've had noticable lag in very few matches.

It's best to create a match and have people join you.

    Less lag and less wait.

It's so much easier to do moves on the keyboard than it is with the 360 controller. I can do half circles so easily on the numpad, even Fei Long's chicken wing works. The only real difficulty is switching hand positions to tap multiple keys at the same time.

okay now its not so bad, although i had a match earlier vs a ken player that only did jump hk, sweep the whole match and the input lag was so bad it was impossible to anti air him.

if anyone wants to play add me http://steamcommunity.com/id/pogo1250

Ryu/Ken/Sagat are controlled only by bitches.

Oh, and that one kid who used Akuma, it's pathetic I beat him with Abel by two perfects.

Honestly, I think anyone can unzip their pants and beat their penis on the keyboard and win with Akuma. Even the ladies.
