I think Kingdom Come was a strong story because it wasn't "look how fucked up everyone's lives is and how a lot of people are dead and how much their life sucks and don't you just feel sad" but more kind of vaguely disappointing seeing the heroes go into obscurity and the like.

But if we combined the might of all the weekly MOTW we would have the biggest thread ever. We aren't all negative about comics, just mainly Loeb's work.
And here is what Jkylefulton posted in MOTW regarding a more in depth Ultimatum 5 summary:

So how'd Ultimatum end?

Magneto's Citadel.
Above the Arctic Circle.
Now.
Wolverine says all the other times he's fought Magneto, he guesses he held back because he wasn't willing to die. Today, he is. Magneto's murdered millions of people. Humans. Mutants. Heroes. Villains. It made no difference to him. Jean is in Logan's head and tells Cyclops he's really going to kill him. Wolverine says that Magneto thinks he's god, but if he is god, then god is dead. Magneto hurls Wolverine away. He says that he won't be judged by someone less than man, nothing more than animal. He asks if they honestly think they can stop him when they can't even stop themselves. He opens Cyclops' visor and causes Iron Man to fire his repulsor, pretty much blowing up Wolverine. Hawkeye and Storm take down Cyclops and Iron Man. Magneto says despite his instinct to survive, it's too late. They killed Wolverine.
Wolverine stabs Magneto in the chest and says, "Not yet." Magneto finishes blowing up Wolverine, apparently tearing the Adamantium off of his bones. Storm, Hawkeye, Jean, Cyclops, and Iron Man mourn Wolverine, letting Magneto escape. Again.
Magneto's Citadel.
Down below.
Hulk and Colossus are trashing the engines. Mystique shows up with a big flame thrower and fires on the two heroes. Hulk says he'll eat her. Colossus attacks. Sabretooth grabs Mystique and they escape on a hang glider. They left a bomb though. Boom.
Magneto, back at his thrown, pulls Wolverine's hand from his chest, saying he'll kill every last bit of him, down to the blood cells. Nick Fury tells Erik he screwed up. It's like he told Doom: every one of them has a weakness, something he keeps as his ace in the hole, in case they get out of hand. And Erik got way out of hand. Magneto says he won't answer to him. Fury says not to him, but to Jean Grey. Jean connects Fury and Erik's mind and shows Magneto that mutants are man made, rather than a miracle of birth or a gift from God. Fury tells Magneto that he's just a man, no different from the millions he's killed.
Magneto magically has a change of heart. He uses his power to reverse the damage he's done to Earth's magnetic poles. He says that Charles will forgive him. Cyclops says Charles is dead, killed by Magneto. There's no one left to forgive him. Cyclops blasts Magneto's head off.
Fury assembles Mr Fantastic, Hawkeye, Hulk, Colossus, Jean, Cyclops, Iron man, and Captain America and says its time to go. (No clue where Power Princess or Doom are, since they were standing with everyone just a moment ago.) They leave on their jet as the Citadel explodes and sinks into the water. Wolverine's hand goes down with it.
Eight Days Later
United States Senate Building.
Washington, DC.
Cyclops is addressing a rather large crowd of mutant haters. He says that the world faced terrible tragedy, caused by a mutant. His name was Magneto, and now he is dead. But the damage he did cannot be forgotten. Rogue and Jean are in the crowd, Storm and Colossus are with Scott at the podium. He says that maybe one day what can be forgotten is the lie that all mutants are evil. Kitty, Iceman, and Johnny Storm are in the crowd. Cyclops says they are here today because history is about to be changed. Freedom is about to be changed. A vote is being taken in the senate which will make it so mutants must surrender to the US government or be hunted down and shot on sight.
Boom. Scott's head explodes from a bullet. The crowd is out of control. Carol Danvers arrests Storm and Colossus. Iceman runs to help, leaving Kitty behind. She says he can't leave her like everyone else. A streak zips through the crowd.
Castle Van Damme.
Latveria. Eastern Europe.
That Night.
Doom says he has so little to show for all of it. Only Namor, the last prisoner. The door opens. A figure enters. He says Reed told him how Doom pushed Magneto's buttons so he'd go to war, all so Doom could have the leftovers. Doom blasts the intruder, revealing Thing underneath the cloak. He says Reed didn't have the stomach for this, but Doom has to pay for what he did. He grabs Doom's head and crushes it, much to Namor's shock.
The Fabled Land of Wundagore.
Bavarian Alps.
Tomorrow.
It's done. Cyclops has been assassinated. A bullet was pushed through his brain. The same bullet used to kill the Scarlet Witch. Pietro says it was quick, with no problems. A shadowed woman says good. When the time is right, they'll start over. Pietro says exactly like she planned. Magneto had grown too soft. Complacent. Only when he believed that Pietro had died, that his kids were gone, would he act. His vengeance cleared the path for a better world. His father is gone, but his dream lives on... I can't remember what the title of that JLA future where Atlantis
takes over the world and Arthur was considered a traitor and became a water elemental or something?
It wasn't awesome, but it was decent.
I believe it was JLA The Obsidian Age.
Indeed.

That ASM #601 preview looks stupid. It's like they're taking all their "Peter can't handle relationships" BS from 2 and a Half Men or something. "Peter's so whacked out by his ex-girlfriend being at his Aunt's wedding he drinks himself drunk and wakes up in bed with another girl! Oh wow that's so Peter!"
That on top of him being a whiny bitch in New Avengers #55, 616 Spidey is just a sad state for the character.

Thats messed up. I thought (hoped) we'd moved past the part where MJ had that much impact on him, I THOUGHT this was a new saga but its just same old except he doesnt get to bang her at the end of a hard day.

None of Millar's run is canon. Not just because I'm an angry fanboy jerk, but because I cannot imagine any other writer really running with it. The whole arc has had that air of not really existing. I mean, he added an extra Earth full of people from the future and it affected no one in any way. Hell, it didn't even really affect the FF.
Speaking of, Spider-Man giving Mary Jane cancer with his irradiated sperm was the worst thing about Spider-Man: Reign.
Kingdom Come and Days of the Future Past are really the only bleak future stories I've ever enjoyed.
If you're looking for bleak futures, try Punisher: From first to last. Talk about a book that had me reaching for the medicine cabinet.
Is that the trade that contains Punisher: The End? Because that was a fucked up future story.
Yeah, it's the one with Tyger, The Cell and The End. It's one of my favourite trades ever. The End is such a great story, the whole bit at the end starting from "When I open my eyes, the sun is shining" gives me the shivers every time.

So how did they defeat the main villain anyways?
They absorbed all the power from all the other Fantastic Fours that were trying to kill them and took into themselves becoming the SUper Saiyan 3 Fantastic Four and overcame a reality warping god.

The wedding in FF and
Ben calling off the wedding with such a weak reason as "you'll have a target on your head" reeks of not wanting to have the baggage of Ben being married as Millar moves on from the book. Which sucks because you kind of knew the second Millar brought her in to the book she wasn't going to stick around, so you were just waiting until she was kicked to the curb. Ben's actions also makes no sense, because Alicia is ok, and even if they aren't married everyone still knows she dated Ben and would still go after her.
I stuck with the book through McDuffie, because I like his writing, even if DC decided to fuck him over at every turn. Hell, by the end of his run I actually liked the team (except for Vixen, who is completely fucking useless).
But man. This new creative team really let me down. The dialog was all trite and full of cliches. Red Tornado sounded way out of character, as did Dr. Light. Oh, and Plastic Man is the worst character ever conceived. I don't hate stretchy heroes. Just Plastic Man. His mere presence made this issue about 100x worse than if he weren't in it. If they are trying to rebuild the JLA, putting him back on the team is not a good way of winning me over. In fact, I will probably drop it from my pull list.
The damn Iron Man: Dark Reign arc feels like its going nowhere. The past 3 issues have been useless. The worst part during all this long dragging out is Crimson Dynamo pointing out a quick solution right in the freaking comic.
Tony having to hop from lab to lab to power this repulsor-based brain wiping crap, to prevent Osborne from getting the Superhuman Registration list, and Dynamo says "Why don't you just jump into a volcano?"

The real, new team starts in October, with issue 38. And in spite of what many people say about Cry for Justice #1, I thought it was a good setup, and Robinson's Superman is my favorite current book, so I am very much looking forward to his JLA run.

Throw Batman #666 in there and I'll agree. Batman Beyond too, if it counts.
As utterly stupid as Last Days of Animal Man sounds, I doubt it's as bad as the bleak future(s) in Teen Titans. So emo.
Victor Van Damme? Really? Come on, he's DOOM. Also I think they made him technically related to Dracula or something which was dumb.
Sooo...
Where exactly does he put the ring?
