Well I broke my new(ish) point-n-shoot by taking it apart to try to get the dust out that was messing up the pictures. I cannot seem to re-insert one of the micro-thin wires that powers the LCD.
Poop.
I'm going to go buy some better pliers soon to see if I can get it. The problem is that the insertion force need to insert the wire exceeds the wire's tensile strength (or whatever, the wire is flimsy and it bends rather than inserts). I feel like a dumbass. Oh, and the dust/dirt is still there.
So this is my first post in here, I did my first panoramic shot last night, using a xti with my 18-55 IS lens. I took three shots and stitched them together, of my home music "studio".
I haven't been here for a while so I'm digging a bit but I love this shot by Sheri. Ring flash I'm guessing? Good use of it.
Indeedy, and my first time getting to play with one! Thanks.
I missed this while I was away. Good picture. My only comment is that her fingers look a little stressed on the left. Her fingers on the right look relaxed.

No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.
Well I froze my nuts off shooting this for the PA book project. Since its a pano, and people get their panties twisted over breaking h-scroll on their CRTs, I have attached a link to a more expansive version of the photo below.
Muninn, I like the contrastiness and all the texture. Nice!
Deveric, it's a well-done indoor pano. The white balance feels a little weird when looking at the walls (and/or the overall yellowness) but your white shirt looks pretty much perfect, so I assume you live in a yellowish home?
First pic is just silly. I guess you have to purchase a duder of equal or greater value to qualify?
This one I am pretty happy with. It may be a little cliche/done, but whatever.
Hey Communist Cow, what exactly is the best way to find sets when you want to shoot a model? You mentioned something about night clubs or something?
Sorry for the late response.
Yea I usually shoot at night clubs, swanky restaurants, or interesting hotel lobbies. Personally I've found it kind of difficult to set up shoots on my own in these places but if there is a planned fashion show at the venue later that night then they don't mind me shooting a few hours before the show starts. Just try and stay out of the patrons way as much as possible which often times is nearly impossible because of small spaces.
The one thing you will have to remember is it is better for you and for the people running the location if you show up at some down time when patrons aren't going to be there. Unfortunately sometimes this turns into the manager saying you can come shoot at 3pm on a Tuesday (when I would normally be at my 8-5 job). It also helps if you offer to send them web sized photos shot in their venue. Also if you can find the person who runs promotion for the club they have, in my experience, been easier to talk to and convince than a general manager, because they want the club to look good and to have photos and are less worried about you getting in the way of patrons.
@Sheri: Your latest batch of model pictures on your flickr are pretty good. Either you and/or the model did a good job of posing. The model appears to have an engagement ring on. If this wasn't part of your choice then I would have her take it off. I try and tell my models to take off all personal jewelry before doing a shoot just so we don't end up with something that the designer/stylist/whatever didn't want in the shot.

Pope, I really dig both of your BW shots. The building photo itself wouldn't be as interesting if you didn't nail the exposure so well, with those detailed lines hinted at in the shadows.
Here is some color stuff from me:
And here is some phat loot I got myself. Cant wait to shoot some 120mm Ektar, but this medium format film photography is getting so expensive ...
Hello photo thread, my friend is currently studying abroad in Jordan and is disappointed to find that there is some kind of dirt something that she can't see on her camera, but it's visible in all of her pictures right near the middle. Like so:
I was wondering if there was some solution that you folks could suggest?

It's either dirt in her lens or dirt on her sensor. Assuming she has an SLR, remove the lens and check both sides and clean them. Try a different lens if that's possible. If it still shows up, she probably needs a sensor cleaning.
If you mean is there a way to fix them, you can use the heal brush in photoshop. If you don't have it there are many other image editing software suites that do.
It's sensor dust. I thought it was lens dust with mine, but it was in the same spots with different lenses. The size/sharpness of the spots is affected by aperture, so I thought it was lens, but the aperture narrows or widens the 'beam' of light, so it also affects the shadow created by dust on your sensor.
It sucks. I tried cleaning mine and I couldn't get it perfect. The stupid swabs I used left streaks around the edges. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on cleaning equipment either.
The cleaning thing is tricky, but not that bad. Bombs - after I've swabbed it several times I can get it pretty even now. I finish off with a brush, too, so it doesn't show smears.
Edit:
Finished editing the pictures from my a little shoot I did for my relatives. My godson Jacob.
The third photo down has the best expression! Hahaha, they're great.
Of course the picture looks better large. I'm shooting the cover a local indie-newspaper, The Scope, about a prof in town who is climbing Everest in the coming months. She has climbed 5 of the 7 tallest mountains, and she didn't get to the peak of Everest on her last attempt so she's pumped about this one.
[strike]All babies should be killed. Especially ones with really creepy glassy photoshopped eyes. (Second Photo). [/strike] Edit: I'm glad you can't seem to take or recognize a joke especially one that is as long running as "Cow hates flowers and babies". Its called hyperbole, look it up.
Also I did a time lapse video of my gf painting again. This time I did this with my 10d taking 1,146 frames at a 1 second exposure every 25 seconds. Video is at 30fps.
I thought about this after I did this but a shutter is rated at 100,000 to 150,000 actuations so this was roughly 1% of my shutter life in one day. Good thing this was my old 10d and not my refurbed 5d.

I visited a couple of waterfalls over the weekend. This one is geothermally heated so it was steaming as it fell, but all the spray around it had frozen into several inches of ice. Very pretty.
I visited this one last week and it was starting to freeze. With subfreezing temperatures all week long I had hoped it would freeze solid as a rock. Alas.
Here's a comparison of the falls at different times of the year from roughly the same spot:

Do you mind editing your post and taking that part out? It's someones child, you immature dildoface. I don't mind a critique, or "crappy photoshop eyes", but that's offensive.
Especially ones with really creepy glassy photoshopped eyes.
Ironic given that you were at one point the king of badly photoshopped eyes. :P. I love the last, might work better as a square (and would get rid of the fall-off.
edit: Doubly ironic, because how would a communist king work?
nice work DM. Not seen that before. Would like a little more separation between the bench and the tree-line, and would consider a lop-sided crop to remove the tree bending out of frame, but I'm not sure either matter.
Gafoto, love the waterfalls. Any chance of getting a "The 4 Seasons" look at the last one? You've already got at least two seasons done.
I (obviously) go to that waterfall quite a bit but I was in Utah for the leaves changing in 09. I'll do my best to hit it up in 10. It is quite interesting to see the falls in different seasons.

Penpal, it's very blue. I know you like a blue tinge to your stuff, but this one is rather very blue.
It was finally warm enough out to leave the house yesterday. As such, my first attempt at the Brenizer method using a tree:

The only way for him to do that would be to bring a step stool I think.
