Hey guys, was hoping you could help me a little. I've played DnD a moderate amount and have DMed one fairly long campaign that went over real well. A new group of friends wants to play and they no absolutely nothing about the game outside of the stereotypes. Any ideas on scenarios/battles that make good hooks for beginners?
I cant do keep on the shadowfell or those other ones because a couple of them are PA fans and listened to those podcasts.
Thanks

Do something that ties into what they like (in terms of video games, movies, etc). The first campaign I ever played was a d20 Modern campaign set in a Fallout-like setting where we had to save a settlement from zombies.
That makes sense, I'll do that to some degree but everyone wants to keep the fantasy tone. Any modules or scenarios that might make for an easy intro to the game?

Unfortunately, that I don't know so well. Hopefully someone like Arivia or Aegeri will come in here because they know everything about everything about making campaigns.
I would suggest starting with the short adventure in the back of the DMG and the sample characters at the end of the Quick Start Rules (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/QuickStartRules.pdf). I did this for my group before beginning the main campaign I wanted to run, and it worked out well for the new players. They were able to jump right into play without having to deal with character creation, and when they went to create their own characters for the main campaign, knowing the mechanics helped them understand the power choices they had to make.

I have been hooked ever since.
