Masquerade Ball - what to wear?

I'm going to be attending GenCon this year, and I plan on going to their Masquerade Ball on Saturday. My question: how dressed up should I get? At this point, the options would be to 1) rent a tuxedo, 2) wear slacks and a jacket, or 3) get a Rennaisance costume.
Honestly, my primary goal here is to hook up at the dance. So, what's the general consensus?

Also, having a monocle to wear in place of the mask (if you get tired of it) would be awesome if you can pull off the look.
If you have a costume that you look good in that is also an option but 90% of costumes make most people look terribad so if you're trying to attract the fairer sex I wouldn't necessarily go this route.
