Need a good car review website (car guys come here too)

My parents want to buy a new car and asked me to look up a few cars to see if there are any reviews/problems, and what people are saying about the cars. I live in Canada if that makes any difference. Anyone know of a good website?

If anyone can help, here are the cars they are interested in.

1. 2005 Chevrolet Equinox 4 door

2. 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix

3. 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix

Each one has about 60k on them.

Thanks guys!

EDIT:

-Ok, they say they are willing to spend around 15k.

They arent looking for flashy. Any car would be fine, just nothing too small. Just a mid size. An SUV is alright aswell. They are looking for something reliable that wont be breaking down on them all the time.

Someone told them to look at the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Ford Escape.

http://www.edmunds.com/ is one of the de facto car review sites. I'm not exactly well versed in that area of knowledge, so there may be others more suited to your needs.

I second edmunds, other than that youtube search for reviews of each of them. Should be able to find some stuff.

I'll further endorse Edmunds, as well as add that Consumer Reports normally does a very good quality review of cars annually. Automotive magazines like Car and Driver also can have very detailed articles.

Regarding those specific cars--I hope they are getting a pretty good deal on them, because they aren't really all that outstanding. I'd look out specifically for the '05 Equinox, as it was the first year Chevrolet offered that vehicle.

Yeah, ordinarily I wouldn't recommend any vehicle by GM (except the Pontiac Vibe because its basically a Toyota with a couple grand discount) but I acknowledge that there are people out there who like their products. If you would like help finding alternatives within your budget feel free to post what you'd be looking to spend and I'm sure we could come up with something nice.

the pre 2010 equinox hasnt been the highest reviewed car in its class by far. Infact though I love the General Id recommend a Rav4 over a 05-09 equinox anyday. Take a look at a 2008+ Ford Escape as well, essentially it fills the same segments as the CRV, RAV, Equinox, etc.

Also Wezon, the G8 could be the greatest sports sedan in its class for it's price. Too bad Pontiac got an Axe.

    Side note: G8's staying on.

On topic: The Grand Prix aren't bad, but if they're a 4 cylinder engine, the car's going to suck hard with more than 1 person in it.

Go for either Grand Prix - make sure it's more than a 4 cylinder engine, and make sure it's the newer model.

    *edit* yeah, shit....http://blog.caranddriver.com/just-kidding-pontiac-g8-dead/

And yeah, add me to the dear god why list for reaction to those three cars.

Post their budget and want list and we can find them something better.

I am MR. America when it comes to my cars but for the years listed and the average price of a being 10-12k for these cars Id say look at Toyota. GM has only recently discovered that it makes other cars besides the Esca/Yuka/Tahoe/lade (though I love them dearly). Hell for the price range grand prix you're looking for consider a 2002 Pontiac Firebird or a bowtie brand camaro of the same year and body.

It would also help to know where abouts you are. Judging from a search of whats near me (Ontario, much more overpriced than the states) you could find a 1 or 2 year old Mazda 6, which would be reliable as well as not terribly boring.

As for the Hyundai route, the Sonata is also a good choice and the equivalent of the Grand Prix, a 2008 Sonata could be had in your price range. It's a nice and (from what I hear, and the warranty they're offering) reliable car.

If they'd like something a bit more on the luxury side of things (and because I love Jaguars and think everyone should buy one) a 2005ish Jaguar X-type is also an option. The nice thing about it is they are AWD as well, so if you live in a snowy area it would be handy. They also won a bunch of reliability awards recently too, which is a surprise for people who know Jags of old.

Keep in mind, if you live in the states you can probably find any of these cars a year or two newer for about the same price or even less. Canadians are extremely overcharged for cars.

I kind of like the new Escape and was considering it for a replacement family type car: 5 star on all crash ratings except rollover. The 4 cylinder will be underpowered for the weight of that platform but it should give decent mileage for an SUV.

Edmunds is a good place to start, though they don't have great reliability information unless the model is already several years old. You might try consumer reports for that (subscription-based, though I think you can still get a free trial to their website still).

If you want proven reliability on a 60K+ mileage car, you might be wanting to look at Honda/Toyota. F150's also tend to be pretty reliable if they're cool with a truck. 60K's about time where things can start going south really fast if the vehicle has not been well maintained.

I really like the Escape Hybrid. I hear that it actually has a decent amount of torque.

Do they have $15K cash, or will they need to get a loan? $15K on a used car at used-car finance rates will make payments pretty close to the 0% financing deals you can get on brand new warrantied cars.

A Hyundai Sonata GL auto will probably be exactly what they need. Practical, reliable, economical. Not fast or "thrilling" but they're not after that, now are they? :P

Sonata isnt a bad car, Ive driven the new ones but the engine doesnt feel as peppy as an accord or malibu around the same price the 08+ year accords may cost an arm and a leg and an 08+ malibu IMHO is much better and for cheaper yet still around 15k american, if not on the high side.

CUVs seem to be the wave of the future, used CRV, Escape, Rav4 should do you well in that price range. The Equinox/Pontiac Torrent/Cadillac SRX are an abomination prior to the 2010 model year. They have a nice engine but the car looks and feels unfinished. ALSO if you wish consider a used Jeep wrangler, they last forever; body style has only gone through a few changes over the year; you can take the doors and roof off. The downside is you are driving a cube with a 6cyl so fuel economy is so so at best. like 18mpg combined, and with that fuel economy spec you could get a used denali for the same price with similar economy.

I really like Wranglers, but be aware their crash ratings for side impact are terrible, unless you get side-airbags, which they're never ordered with, and then side impact ratings are fair/acceptable.
