On Monopods and Handheld Stabilizers... (camcorder accesory thread)

Ok, so after 2 years at college learning about cameras and film, I finally felt comfortable to buy my first (HD)camera. I went the "prosumer" route as I am below the middle tax bracket (hi student) and I want this to be my test camera (and a solid "B" camera for the future.)

anyways, I ended up with the (very tiny) VIXIA HFS-100 by Canon, I love it.

I am already picking up small film/promotional jobs around Toronto, but need to get a few accessories before I start considering myself legitimately "for hire."

Aside from a nice wide angle lens (to add weight and... angle) I really need a good MONOPOD...

I'm not planning to spend over $100 (hopefully not even near 100) on my first pod, I need suggestions for what might be my best grab at this point.

I admittedly have no experience with a one-legged pod, but the amount I've used a tripod and been annoyed by it's lack of portability makes me want to make the switch. I'd like to do more raw, walkaround, "on the street" kind of shooting, so having a "stabilizing cane" seems pretty ideal to me.

Also, aside biting the buck and grabbing a Merlin, what would be a good place to start looking for stabilizing equipment? (cheap glidecam, steadycam equivalents..) something to take the rotation and amateurish shake out of my handheld shots. Thanks!
