Anyone out there like Phantasy Star? I am playing it and blogging about it on my site and I like the game, even though it is pretty out there with its MacGuffins and such.

The original PS was one of, if not the best RPG in the 8-bit era. As much as I loved Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior, and I really do, the dungeons in the original Phantasy Star will put hair on your chest. No maps, labyrinthine corridors and doorways you can miss if you're not looking directly at them, wow. Took a friend and I nearly a year to finish that game.
Phantasy Star II is probably my favorite grind-a-thon RPG, and one I have fond memories of. The same friend and I spent a good number of months finishing this one as well.
Phantasy Star III was godawful. Let us never speak of it again.
Phantasy Star IV was indeed the peak of the series and stands on its own as one of the best entries in the genre to date. Such a fun game.
I am really liking this one and I want to play the others, but figured I should do it in order. I am blogging it for our site, if you like the game, you might enjoy it. If not, tell me I suck, lol. I would love to hear feedback from people who are familiar with it:
What's funny to me is that the only Phantasy Star game to ever really hold my interest was PS3. The generation system seemed like too cool of a concept to pass up.
I was pretty disappointed, however, when I got to the end of the first generation and the game defining choice was literally presented as "marry her or her?".
I think of all them, PS3 deserves a revisit, this time with some actual characterization. The idea of playing through a bloodline of heroes is something I'd love to see tried again.

Phantasy Star IV was just incredible and was on par with a Square pre Enix level game.
Alys > Aeris.
*ducks*
Seriously though... I loved PS4. I hear the love for 2, but I never enjoyed it.

I wrote part III last night and hope to have that up this weekend. I think the blog fits with the penny arcade humor.
