My roomie just started in on what will most likely an hour long shitstorm about how "fucked" that call was.
Dummy needs to learn the rules then. This is ain't college ball, this is the damn pros!
That's illegal in high school ball. It's called shielding and it's illegal at all levels of play. I would know. I was flagged for it twice in junior high.

it's a type of pass interference call where the defender basically just guards your eyes instead of the ball. You can't do that because anyone could just put their hands in your face so you can't see

I think your hand has to actually touch the ball to not get called in college. If you throw your hands up to get them in the receivers eyes it's illegal.
Defensive back makes no play on the ball, just tries to make the receiver unable to see the ball. Or something like that.
Yeah. DB and Reciever are running after a long pass. A legal move is for the DB to be facing the ball and going for it - any contact becomes incedental, because he can't tell where the reciever is.
But if the DB were to turn around, having his back to the ball in the air, to obscure the reciever's vision - that is face guarding.

well, your hand doesn't has to touch it, just any part of your body. Now, if you do it and you don't touch the ball at all... that may be a penalty in college ball. I have no idea in that situation because that's very unlikely to even happen.

All you have to say is "He never looked towards the ball." They will call that more often then not.

This is what I was going to say. But he's had a few and I don't want to get my face smashed by psuedo-roid rage.
Also: Hey, nice return.

I really would, but I have a feeling it won't happen
