We should append that to the OP- THIS IS NOT A CHAT THREAD- IT IS A HALO THREAD.
Keep the off topic stuff to a minimum!
With that- The cravings return. The rage has subsided and I feel horribly stupid for breaking that disc.
It felt fucking great though.. fucking great tearing that disc up.
So, you keep giving money to a game you hate.
Yes, because I am a consumer whore.
I don't hate TBK. I just hate some of the dynamics that are a part of the game design. Specifically the P2P system where we are NOT allowed to have some private server do hosting. Its 2009, I would think they would of been better then this by now.
But getting spawn forced in a few of those games does not make me want to find another copy of this game. It feels like we have to actively spawn force (what I would consider cheating) to win in this game. Part of the reason why I love avalanche and the larger levels with some decent cover.
Some might say that my red box abuse was cheating, and I will admit to that- I needed verifiable proof that you could in fact- do it in MM. I swore off ever using it again. Fyre punching some guy through the box was pretty funny to watch.
So spawn forcing/camping? Should I feel less guilty for this?
In other news for everyone else, here's Paul Bertone's (lead dude on ODST) office. Notice the stupid kotaku watermark, awesome Master Chief doll forlorn in that box, and a firefight map?

Well I'll give it to you straight the Astro's are what you want. They're incredible. PC and 360 is like a good double investment which makes the cash worth it. If you've got a working one just set some cash aside for those babies. Turtle Beach are trash. Your ear cups will be falling off due to their shitty hinges.

The best thing is that buying a new disc at this point would be a horrendous waste of money.
How is that going to work with ODST? is it going to have all the mutliplayer that halo 3 has built in?
and on the subject of headsets.. I take pretty good care of my stuff and I've had probably 3 x 360 headsets give up the ghost on me. Maybe I will look into the "Astros", I guess that would be a good idea for a christmas present or something.
[edit]wholy shit $270?? I was prepared to pay like $100 less than that.
I'd love to see civvies that weren't weren't voiceless robots. Slip a little humanity in there.
Seconded. I think Bungie wasted a good opportunity in Halo 3 when you fight beside those engineer/workers in hard hats in The Storm. To my knowledge, they don't say anything remarkable and die horribly by rushing brutes and hunters with pistols.

I thought some of the engineers made comments about "kicking alien ass back to outer space!" or something.
I tend to keep the IWHBYD skull on whenever I play campaign though.
Speaking of consumer whoring, are there any good headsets to use with the 360?
The standard one is pretty flimsy and Astro's are too expensive.
Those turtle ones from best buy look crappy too
EDIT: Not even Bungie leads use Vista :P
This is the best 360 headset I've used so far. I hate the MS one because it just isn't loud enough. The Plantronics one is great because I can hear people bitching and explosions at the same time. I'm pretty sure the link I have has the best price on it as well.

hahah You mean me teaparty? :P
But Ya- If my headsets start breaking that looks like a viable option.
It seems to have bad reviews on NewEgg, but I've had the exact opposite experience with it. I actually bought mine used just to see if I would like it because I have such an issue with headsets. I still haven't bought a new one yet. The only issue I've had with it it that I've rubbed off some the rubber that makes it more comfortable.
Astros are excellent, but not worth the money for most people--Sennheiser makes a few models but I haven't tried--and then there is Turtle Beach, for about $60 they aren't bad. The only issue is if you are using a wireless controller and are charging it, you create a ground-loop so there is a humming in the headset
However, there is one problem about the headset (at least for me). When you turn the volume all the way up, you get this terrible hissing sound. Other than that though, they work fine.
The best thing is that buying a new disc at this point would be a horrendous waste of money.

Yes, exactly. It comes with two discs - one has Halo ODST's campaign and Firefight mode. The other is essentially the Halo 3 disc with campaign surgically removed and the Heroic, Legendary and Mythic map packs put in, along with Cold Storage, Heretic, Citadel and Longshore.

So here's a little story about the awesome new setup for 2 Flag Heavy Valhalla. As you may or may not know, the porters are now both on the same channel, so you can end up at either exit. This opens up some interesting map control strategies.
I sneak into their base. Well, the definition of sneaking is very loose here. I manage to exploit people not checking their radards as they're all grabbing new weapons or something. Only one really puts shots into me - I expect he was the best player for the team since he later had the sniper rifle. I shoot at him and run for the flag.
In the next shot, you can see my elite's head tilted due to taking shots. However, I plan to grab the flag, not fight. By the way, this is a good time to demonstrate to all of you the massive grab radius for a flag. Look at where I am...
... and in the next frame, I pull the flag off the post, ready to instantly drop down to the bottom. They put another shot into me but at this point I still have 50% shield.
Go go gadget porter! Turtling backfiring in my Halo? More likely than you think.
Once I get out, I immediately walk backwards and block porter, so that they'll come out Pelican.
Same frame as the porter block in the last pic, showing their massive turtling ways. See you at Pelican..
Map control is awesome! They're all at pelican porter. Their sniper stayed at the base.
Laser beats Battle Rifle.
Just showing that a lack of top-mid control would have meant they would have been able to stop me, as they are properly leading their shots until their death.. they must have watched my BR video. However, since we controlled top mid and the porters...
The other two had another opportunity to stop me here, but they seemed too focused on rushing the base.

Thanks Fyre. Now we know.
And knowing is half the battle.
No Halo for me tonight; gotta work and then head to school early tomorrow because my group needs to put the finishing touches on a presentation for class. And the next two days will largely be devoted towards studying for said class's final exam. But Kor and I ran through Halo on Legendary for Mumbo earlier, and had an amusing glitch occur. I'll let Kor explain what transpired.

Being able to change your forum name is an opportunity that happens once in a blue moon. I suggest frantically refreshing Tube's Circus around PAX time. Paying the eight hundred moon pounds to change your gamertag would be easier.

But isn't it completely random whether you get the name you suggested or the name the mod gives you? Or did that just happen once?
In more Halo related news:
1. That Porter block looks highly effective. But couldn't you just let some of them through and then assassinate them? Maybe after 2-3 end up at the Pelican.
2. What BR video are you talking about? I could always use some pointers.
pretty much the best movie of 09 and if you don't see it i won't play halo with you
or I'll just tell you to get off your ass and see it all night
That is what I spent a good portion of Saturday and Sunday harassing people about. Seriously, I cannot even begin to fathom how anybody could not enjoy District 9. Yes, it is a sci-fi movie with some action sequences, but those elements are not the main focus, unlike in Star Trek or Transformers. It is one of only two movies I can undoubtedly say I saw solely for the story (the other being Up).
I liked it because Wikus' sweater vest was just so damn dapper.
I dunno, I liked Christopher Johnson's (awesome name for an alien, by the way) little jacket better.
Did I take a wrong turn somewhere and enter a chat thread?
The tangent: Originally, Neill Blomkamp was contacted by Peter Jackson to direct Halo, a film based on the video game series of the same name. When this project did not turn out due to internal disagreements between Fox, Universal and Microsoft, Jackson and those involved felt obligated to give Blomkamp financial support and a chance to direct another film, and it was decided that the short film Alive in Joburg could be expanded into a feature instead. According to Jackson, District 9 was born "the day Halo [the film] died."
Ponyo, the latest Miyazaki film, had the unfortunate draw of opening the same weekend as District 9.
Hardly the TF2 "Let's Post a Random Video and Get Our Thread Locked" Rampancy.
Honestly a Halo movie would be awesome, but to be honest I'm struggling to find a decent venue for it any more. I always thought that the story behind Reach would make a really awesome film, but now that's a game. So yeah.
I read the script for a Halo movie a while ago, I think it was the Beattie one. It was basically a film version of CE, but with flavour from The Flood thrown in like the Chief's dream before he wakes up and so forth. If that's the Halo movie that was in the works, I'm kinda glad it got canned.

Campaign map? Under closer examination it's not that big.
Mine is in perfect condition, maybe it's just the green eyed monster. Wanting moar
The best headset I own is from my japanese 360. Which I find horribly ironic.

Actually yeah on closer inspection it looks like it's a segment of the campaign
so uh, if you don't want any campaign spoilers at all, don't read the marked words :P
also that 360 in the office, it might be an elite but it looks too gray in the picture. Honestly still hoping for an odst 360
and i think he's talking about
:winky:
I hope the do have some decent voice acting because that guy screaming in halo 3 about the flood was really REALLY annoying.
