The new forums will be named Coin Return (based on the most recent vote)! You can check on the status and timeline of the transition to the new forums here.
The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Also I should mention you need to buy a Motion Plus attachment in order to play this. There's no getting around it like in Tiger 10 and Grand Slam Tennis, the game WILL NOT WORK without the Motion Plus doohickey attached to the Wiimote.
Out most places? It doesn't launch in the U.S. until Sunday.
Anyway, I'm in. I got to play it at a press event a few weeks ago and it's really awesome, though I also really loved the original Wii Sports for what it is. I think gamers who tossed around the "tech demo" lingo with the original will find more to enjoy here, though if you're looking for RPG-like consistency and character development, you're totally barking up the wrong tree. Swordplay is awesome as shit, though, and it plays the way Boxing should have played in the original—you can be actually tactical with strikes and blocks instead of flailing around like a madman to win. My friends and I played Tennis for months, and Table Tennis will last us even longer.
It does come bundled with one MotionPlus, and like LewieP said, a lot of the games are turn-based, like how Bowling and Golf was in the original. Every other mode is 2p, so you might want to grab a second MP—though, honestly, the game is going to sell so retardedly well you'll probably just be able to ask a friend to bring a second one over. The only mode that I believe requires more than 2 people simultaneously is Canoeing, which you can get four people (all requiring MP) to paddle at once.
EDIT: Oh hey, Toys R Us has a deal where if you buy this between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, you get a free $20 gift card. That's pretty awesome, I think I'll pick it up from there.
EDIT2: Apparently the above deal is only if you're a TRU Rewards Member, but you can sign up for free in-store. I'd do that before Sunday morning, though.
And if you're hesitant about the game, fuck, even Jeff Gerstmann gave it a 5/5, and he was a storied Wii-hater in the beginning.
I picked up a second MP today in anticipation. No one else is jazzed about this? Apparently it's out outside of the U.S., and right here in NYC the Nintendo World store was apparently selling it this afternoon but stopped for some reason? I'm only reading secondhand reports, but they've also got this giant demo kiosk setup in Times Square, so it's pretty Wii'd out here in the city.

The very first sentence in this thread is already full of fail.
I'm very undecided on this game (Wii Sports/Play have burnt me). I'm waiting for more reviews before I'm willing to give it a go. Gotta need Motion Plus at some point in the furture anyway though, so that's a selling point right there.

I'd probably love this, but I'd need a second motion-plus for multiplayer and $70 is pushing it.
There are a lot of games that don't have simultaneous multiplayer anyway and just do the hot seat thing, though the multiplayer swordplay is pretty awesome.

Really, reviews for Wii Sports? You pretty much know what you're getting into. What didn't you like about the first one? If it's the minigame aspect to it, well, that doesn't really change, but there are a lot more games to actually play, and all of the different modes come unlocked from the get-go, so you don't have to grind through training mode like you did in the original.
The fact that I hardly ever have people over here who'd like to play games, something more "casual" (please don't hurt me) like Wii Sports even less. Thus, the point of the game is kinda defeated.

Oh, no, that's fine—hell, I'm not going to hit you with a Mario-branded hat or anything for not buying the game. Sounds like it's not your thing. It just seems that this is a reviewproof game like Mario Kart—you either already know you're going to buy it or know you're not.
For me, I'm going to rock this bitch at every party I go to. Wii Sports is also one of the few games my wife has a real interest in, and she used to fence in high school, so I think she'll really take to the Swordplay. Also, Basketball? Not nearly as lame as it looks. When I tried it, I actually had a lot of fun with it, though only with multiplayer as a high-score challenge kind of thing.
I took care of my additional M+ by picking up Tigerwoods 10, and that was well worth the price of admission all by itself. I've had this pre-ordered since then, and I'm definitely looking forward to picking it up.
Hey, so apparently Nintendo is taking Wii Sports Resort on a nationwide US tour to advertise. They had something in Times Square today, was kind of kitschy with tons of sand, cabanas and a whole tropical island feel. Here are the dates, if you guys want to try the game for free:
Ashville, N.C.: Bele Chere Festival, July 24-26
Augusta, N.J.: New Jersey State Fair, Aug. 6-9
Bellevue, Wash.: 6th Street Fair, July 24-26
Bethlehem, Pa.: Musikfest, Aug. 7-9
Birmingham, Ala.: Riverchase Galleria, July 30-Aug. 2
Bloomington, Minn.: Mall Of America, July 24-26
Boston: Faneuil Hall, July 30-Aug. 2
Boulder, Colo.: Boulder County Fair, July 31-Aug. 2
Cheyenne, Wy: Cheyenne Frontier Days, July 24-26
Columbus, Ohio: Jazz & Rib Fest, July 24-27; Ohio State Fair, July 29-Aug. 2
Dallas: Grapevine Mills, July 24-26
Houston: The Galleria, July 31-Aug. 2
Lowell, Mass.: Lowell Folk Festival, July 24-26
Oshkosh, Wisc.: EAA AirVenture, July 30-Aug. 2
Portland, Ore.: The Bite of Oregon, Aug. 7-9
Salt Lake City: Salt Lake County Fair, Aug. 5-8
Seattle: Seafair, July 31-Aug. 2
St. Louis: Saint Louis Galleria, Aug. 6-9
St. Petersburg, Fla.: Tyrone Square, Aug. 6-9
Washington: Potomac Mills, Aug. 6-9
West Allis, Wisc.: Wisconsin State Fair, Aug. 6-9
That's so weird they'd have something at Jazz & Rib Fest here in Columbus. Then again it is the primary demographic for Nintendo, 40+ middle-class white people.
Anyways I got this last night but haven't even put it in the Wii yet. Maybe if I get some time this weekend I'll try it out cause I really wanna do some bull-whippin'.
I picked it up last night from a Friend at NoA.
The games I've played so far feel really good.
The SwordFighting extras really screams out "Someone now go make a StarWars / Samurai Game Stat"
I'm really liking Golf, makes it tempting to pick up Tiger Woods.

Nothing in California? Fucking fail.
Maybe they figure we have enough sand and cabana boys without their little dog and pony show.
It is kinda surprising that they're not at the OC Fair though.
Picked this up today (wooo breaking streetdates hell yeah), played some swordfighting, frisbee dog and flying the airplane around.
The swordfighting is just perfect. After my first two slashes were precisely mirrored I got a grin on my face that did not leave for the next 30 minutes, as I fought my way through the stages, where you beat up lots of miis (with fantastic ragdoll effects) and try to not get hit.
Frisbee dog I only played a little, the controls were tight and worked, but it's very hard (which is realistic, I guess).
Flying the airplane around is very fun and relaxing. Looking around and recognizing some of the areas where I had fought miis with the sword was a lot of fun, and you can collect information points, which is fun. Three 5-minute runs got me 20/80 information points though, so I expect I'll be done with that soon. I can see myself coming back to it though.
Really thinking of picking up a second Motion Plus for that swordfighting now :?
So I have Wii Sports (original), and I heard Wii Play was basically just an add-on for wii sports. Is this another Wii Play scenario or is it a substantial improvement on the formula?
Also, does it feature enhanced versions of the original wii sports bowling/tennis/golf/boxing or is it exclusively new games?

Depends on if you consider a bunch of new sports and Motion Plus implementation a substantial improvment.
The only game I saw that carried over is Bowling, but there might be another one or two.

I don't know if you could call either an add-on. Wii Play has little to do with Wii Sports besides using Miis, it doesn't have a similar interface or selection at all, no additional challenges menu or anything. It was quite a bit worse than Wii Sports but only $10 if you consider the controller you get with it.
Wii Sports Resort looks better than both combined.
And golf is the best thing. Wii Sports Golf was already one of my favorite golf games despite its short length, so glad they expanded it.
When we bought my Wii, the guy gave us a demo play of Wii Sports (only because we asked - the Wii was all locked up and not playable). I said I wanted to play Golf, and he said 'Golf on Wii Sports sucks, you want to play Tennis and Baseball instead'. If it wasn't $10 cheaper than a standalone Wii with Wii Fit bundled with it, I would have walked away. I tried Golf a week or two after I got it, and it was so fun. Fucking asshole sales guy.
I always find myself coming back to Wii sports, even when I've been through a slew of other games, both wii and non-wii. The tennis, golf, and bowling just feel so right. Of course there are some sim-level realism issues not considered, but it FEELS right and that's important.
Should I find myself with moneys to spare, I will probably pick up resort. I'd get Wii Play but I don't need a 5th wiimote :P

Yeah, there is some good in Wii Play but it is simply not a game you keep coming back to.
Wii Sports Resort looks like it recaptures Wii Sports and then some.
Plus there is a bowling mode where you get to bowl 100 pins every frame. Max score of 3000!
That's a new one, I think. Creating a new thread to attack the platform the game you just bought runs on.
Anyway, loving the sword and archery parts of the game. They really show what can be done in the next Zelda game.
