It's 6 minutes for observer wards and 3 for sentries in DotA. There's little fear of wards being destroyed in a pub, but it does happen in competetive games thanks to counter warding. Even then, there are many, many places where to place the wards so even then counter warding may not be effective if the opponent guesses your ward placement wrong. Necro 3 is great for scouting and removing the enemy wards but usually comes into play late or not at all so it tends not much of an issue.
I've think I've seen one puzzlebox level 3 in the hundreds of games I've played.
Well I am not sure if I will ever play this game again, it just isn't fun. You can lose a game for too many reasons that are not under your control and the only counter is an incredibly well organized team of experienced players. While all they need is one hero with someone who sort of knows how to play him.
Just got done with a game where the other team doubled our levels. Started off trying to gank magebane all on his own, I had double damage so I stunned him and dropped him to 1.3 health, got two more hits off and he had maybe 50 hp left. He then somehow warps back in and kills thunderbringer and lives.
By the time I hit level 8 he was 16 and was killing me in two hits, that is in no way fun at all. This game doesn't really take skill, just luck and picking broke heroes. We went maybe 30-4 against them and none of them had a KDR of over 1.0 or a PSR over 1600.
This looks like an EM game.
Pay close attention to a game before you join it. If it says EM mode then don't play this shit!
EM is easy mode which makes everyone get gold and exp faster. This ruins much of the balance and play quality of the game because heroes will out-level each other very fast and some heroes lose their usefullness in this mode.
There are way too many idiots playing EM because they want phat gear faster or think it makes games qiucker (which it does not).
Question for some of the better players out there.
When should I buy bottles and with what SORTS of characters?
I'm thinking they'd be good for characters who can harass with their nukes early on...middle laners....
Should it be something you buy right away or is it a SECOND item choice, after you've bought your bracers and such.
My personal preferences:
Bottles are a great option for characters who are not necessarily int heroes(although it can work on int heroes) and thus can't really afford to spend a lot on mana regen items like a bloodstone, but still have mana-intensive abilities or are dependant on their abilities to kill more than carry items early-mid game. Examples that come to mind are Behemoth, Moon Queen, Valkyrie, there are many that it works well with. Some other "gank" style heroes work well with bottles primarily for the rune storing capabilities so that they can pop that critical haste rune or double damage when they need it for a kill.
My personal preference is to only get a bottle when going mid since you have access to both rune spawns to replenish your water.
Typically you want to buy a bottle first thing. The actual amount of hp/mana it restores is pretty low so it doesn't scale well later into the game and so using it to fuel early game harassing powers is where the restorative powers are most useful-- when your mana pool is small. The ability to refill it with runes also means you will be able to stay in your lane longer if you are good, as opposed to running out of tree runes or mana pots.
Later on in the game, even on str heroes mana is less of an issue since your pool will get a lot bigger from stats. At this point the main purpose of the bottle is to store runes for escaping or ganking.
If you are NOT in the middle lane, I personally like to go with a ring of sorcery, or a teacher's ring if your lanemate would benefit from the mana regen too and later turn it into an abyssal skull.
I just had the most hilarious game ever. Lasted over 70 minutes, our pharaoh went 0-15, torturer didn't do much better, and we friggin won. Apparently nymphora with a frostwolf skull ends games, even if the other team has a super fed night hound with 3 different orbs and a divine rapier(or whatever they call it in this game).

I'm not quite sure why, but it makes her unstoppable. For best results, follow with level 5 Codex!

How does FW Skull synergize with Nymphora? I... can't see it, and I wanna.

For one, people have a harder time running from your HealNuke, letting you hit both yourself and enemies with it. The stats combine with the buff from Zeal to cause you to rip through people. I suspect most items with a bunch of +all stats would have a similar effect, but FW Skull gives you a lot of bang for your buck, plus the orb effect.

Bottles are rune repositories that occasionally regen. Remember that and you will be fine. Whenever someone solos mid without a bottle, god kills a kitten. The corrolary to this is that you generally don't put a non-nuker mid.

Any chance there are still closed beta keys around?
I've been having fun with LoL, but this looks really good.
PM me if you have one? or if you need an email to send it to.
Bottle is best on heroes who will be roaming and ganking with hard nukes early. You need to be grabbing the runes whenever they spawn then checking the lanes for a gank opportunity.
Of the heroes in the game game right now the only ones who almost always get bottle first are Valkyrie (grab rune, go into jungle, stun, leap, nuke, pew pew to finish, head back mid with full mana), and sometimes Devourer (hook, rot, hook, rot). Pebbles/Tiny is also a prime bottle user in DotA, don't know if he works the same in HoN. It's optional on heroes like pyro, who's a little slow to be roaming and not the best solo mid. Andromeda also does well with a bottle, but you really need to be ganking. Pretty good on Soulstealer, but he'll be really fragile, so you need to be hitting those nukes.
I tried Nymphora with the Frostwolf Skull. Pretty amazing. She's becoming a new favorite, blending my favorite parts of Necrolyte (AOE Heal), Furion(Teleport) and Voljin (No-dmg stun that can wreck if used correctly).
Question: Are there any heroes that you really like but always lose with OR any heroes you can't stand to play but always seem to win?
My Answers: I like Dazzle and Witch Doctor(I can't remember their HoN names) but somehow end up losing more with them (even if I have a good game, our throne goes down). Conversely, I hate playing Devourer or Valkyrie but always have tons of kills and have a really high win percentage. I think my team is undefeated when I'm Devourer actually, even though I'm really mediocre with him.

I hate playing as Arachna now, cause I always get stuck with her.
Playing with a team of friends: "Klyka you should take Arachna!"
Randoming a hero: "ARACHNA!"
Single Draft: "Hero I can't play, hero I can't play.....Arachna"
And it doesn't help that she is a loathsome hero to play as and play against. Everyone hates her, including me who is controlling her.
Would you believe I actually randomed her three times yesterday? Out of 4 games I played?

I get bottle on nearly any hero these days.
I rarely solo mid anymore though as I have a strange fetish for bottom lane.
The near universal item build i start with is a courier + healing potion + 2x3str or 2x3agi or 2x3int
Once I earn 600 in my lane I'll buy the bottle with the courier. This is also usually right when I need more mana after harassing or killing.
From then on pay attention to the time and if you think a rune may be available then go check. It is even usually worth walking all the way to a far rune to get. Runes give insane advantage all game long. Playing without a bottle is weaksauce.

Can't you bottle with a courier? Or did they change that (I am not good enough for these pro strategies, though I know of their existence)
You can bottle your courier, then keep sending him back to the fountain for refills. It's kind of expensive and not all that useful for most characters (you could have bought your RoR with that money), but you see it now and then.

Wow, so succubus is actually really freaking awesome.
Mid-game SUPER strong, and late-game disable queen. (YOU do no damage to anyone, YOU are standing there looking stupid, and YOU are dying and giving me mana.)
Necronomicon (whatever the HoN equivalent is) is really good for her. Sleep ~> summon minions ~> ult, let minions blast away, then steal health should be an instant kill on damn near anyone. Also codex (dagon) is pretty useful too.
If you want more support for your team then sheep stick is always helpful.

Why don't more people play her more often?
Also, what late-game items do I go for on her?
Got into a game where succubus was level 13 when I was 8 as arachna. My team decided that I should solo middle (why? I don't know) and I was paired with succubus the whole time. Her ult was a one-shot kill to me. I eventually just left the middle lane and hung out at the bottom.
I have a chicken and the egg problem. I'm not bad at all now, but because of the first few inhouses and a bunch of pubbers not knowing what to do, my PSR sits at around 1068 thanks to an epic loss streak over the last 2 weeks. In order to raise my PSR, I need to play with people that know what they're doing, but in order to play with those people I need to raise my PSR. I even get booted from some noob games for being too noob according to my PSR.
So any suggestions? I wish I could just play, and before PSR that's what I'd do and I wouldn't mind losing at all. I really don't want to lame my K/D and PSR back up to around 1400.
Well, join games that autobalance. You'll naturally be put with better players to balance out your low PSR.
I am noticing the opposite problem. i have a completely undeserved 1600 PSR and keep getting put with absolutely awful players. So eventually my PSR will be down around 1300, where I roughly feel I belong.

I get kicked. =\ Also I'm not sure if I should go normal and be a horrible person and take someone like Arachna all the time, or do Random?

edit: bottle goes on heroes in mid that can harass at range with sufficient mana regen
TB, moon queen, defiler, torturer (i guess), pyro if you can aim well, behemoth if you put behemoth mid but don't actually put behemoth mid
???
