You're completely missing the point about them keeping the profits hidden from their message, so that when you find it it feels like you've found your uncle's stash of old playboys.

    wat

    well

the general parameters by which i live are often violated

my brother is gonna be teaching engrish there for a year

I wanted to work in an ESL camp for a couple weeks, but they told me not to bother unless I could come for at least a month, which didn't give me enough notice to get papers and funds in order. A lot of their people were being put in seven-day quarantine for the sniffles over the the swine flu thing. That ought to be slowing down now, though.

Whereabouts will you be? Will you come back with pictures and swashbuckling tales of adventure?

he is in a fairly large city semi-adjacent to north korea on a prominent peninsula

i'm too intoxicated right now to rememer any of the details, other then that he'll be workin' for the chinese gubbament

That is all true enough. However, the legitimacy of the organization isn't completely destroyed by the fact that gritty details of providing loans in environments hostile to free, uncorrupted financial services are slightly obfuscated.

How would you explain the exact process of microlending and the procedural hurdles that stand in the way of making funds available to third world entrepreneurs? How should the paying off of banking institutions that operate on near mafioso levels of interest be made attractive to the potential 'investor?' To make it sexy enough to draw mass interest, burying the details of the transactions on some page deep within the website (though still acessable) might be a decent policy. A moderately effective solution to solving the capital problems of these possible businesses seems better than no solution at all. Its got to be better than unicef for tangible benefit, right? Maybe? How much profit are the mediators making anyways (someone earlier quoted like ~10 million or something, honest question.)

Finding the uncles playboy though is hilariously good analogy though. Feelin' soo good yet so terribly terribly wrong.

it's too bad that studies have shown that microloans have approximately zero effect on people's success and well-being

I have only seen one study on the matter (Sanders, 2002) with many flaws and with a scope of study not directly pertaining to this conversation.

    EDIT: That shared said conclusion.

Also, Munkus puts way too much faith in the traditional model of charity.

    LARLAR APPROVED NECRO-POST

Our loan got repaid! So all in all, we "donated" $25 and got $25 back, and someone in need got a low interest loan.

Someone: pick a new person! New people: donate?

The first bunch of soldiers you got in Cannon Fodder were Jools and Jops, which incidentally were the nicknames of the lead developers. Subsequent soldiers were named after other members of Sensible Software team, until all were accounted for.
